Q:
Sea of Sorrows Scavenger Hunt—Begins June 25
A:
“In this new permanent content, retrace the steps of Cobiah Marriner. Twelve plaques have been set up to honor the history of the city and its founder. You can find clues to the plaques’ locations in Sea of Sorrows. Complete the scavenger hunt to earn five skill points.” – Quote.
You get 5 skill points
No it’s not. It’s to do with the book. Nothing about precursors.

well so what it seems is that we as legendary players trying to earn out legendary this hits us right in the heart. but im gonna “try” to be optimistic and think that this is a test.
“Scavenger hunt” for a precursor was an offhand comment made before there even was a plan for an alternate method of obtaining a precursor. Several months of planning later, the process has only just begun development and most likely bears no resemblance to the original idea that led to it.
Do not expect this alternate method of obtaining a precursor weapon to resemble a scavenger hunt in any way or you will be disappointed. I will be posting this a lot over the next several months.

i fund that statement in trusting but however they have stated they been in development for a scavenger hunt since ohh what was it ohh ya January. that was like humm 5 months ago. and here is a quote from one of the game developers
ColinJohanson Game Director: We still plan to do both new legendary weapons, as well as a clear path (on top of the current random chance) to gain precursors which players can see their progress and understand how much work they have left to do to gain it.
It’s highly likely the precursor concept will involve playing varied different content all over the game to gather numerous content specific materials that are combined together to make a precursor.
We do also want to maintain that chance you could get lucky and earn one earlier through random drops, so when we add the new system we will not remove the current one to ensure players have multiple ways to gain the items. Also with the upcoming update to WvW, there will be a chance players can earn precursors from the WvW rank reward chests as well.

so this seems to be a ignore to the situation agine or maybe this is a “test of the watters” I’m keeping myself calm because i don’t want this thread to be shut down my a moderator.
Developing any content – let alone something as game-changing as an alternate route to creating a Legendary Weapon – takes many months. Plans have to be developed, approved for testing, tested, corrected, tested again, etc. before they go live. This was also stated by a dev in some thread of another. Five months is barely enough time to reach the testing stage.
Note that nowhere in the statement above does it say “scavenger hunt,” so I’ll be posting my original statement from time to time when people get all bent out of shape that the “scavenger hunt” hasn’t appeared in the game yet.
HA! Anet trolled you badly dude.
I don’t know about anyone else but 5 skill points seems like an amazing reward. It’s not like I haven’t collected 500+ of them over the last 10 months.
Legendary weapons? Pfff.
I highly doubt finding these 12 locations would reward a precursor.
Just look at Guild Treks – 186 locations which were discovered almost immediately and posted on dulfy.net.
I think a scavenger hunt probably isn’t the best way to go since as soon as it’s solved, everyone would just run through it.
The precursor “scavenger hunt” will likely be similar to how we obtain the gifts for legendary weapons. Buy a kittenload of mats off the trading post and flush them down the mystic toilet.

They’re probably checking how effective a scavenger hunt will work out. If they ever do decide to do a precursor scav hunt, this’ll be their testing ground.

I am all for alternate ways to get precursors but did you really think they would be handing them out to people just for walking around to a couple of places?

No. But what I do expect them to do is put more effort into a reward than 5 skill points.
There may as well be no reward attached to that particular scavenger hunt. That’s how much skill points are worth at this stage in the game.
