Seems Like a Good Time to Try ESO
And then when they give out the expansion that costs 50 dollars you will quit like you quit this? All the qq on the forums this morning….
Well, the grass is always greener they say…
The grass is only greener where it’s watered…
Its never a good time to try ESO.

If they deliver 50 dollars worth of content, I’ll happily purchase. It’s not the price tag. It’s the value. You don’t seem to have read my post.
You do that, see you in 5
You’ll be back. You’ll realize if a game is fun enough, you would be playing it already, no matter the price. If ESO is really that attractive to you, and GW2 is so terrible, you would’ve already been playing ESO.
Anyways, you’ll likely have some fun in ESO, I did. But the fun just didn’t last for me.
GW2 has a better fighting system but ESO will keep you busy for a good 6 months.
ESO, Tera, LoTRO are all good ‘others’. The fact that GW2 is superior is not a myth.
I just cannot get behind these prices. The base price doesn’t even include a kittening character slot for Christs sake!
Laptop: M6600 – 2720QM, AMD HD6970M, 32GB 1600CL9 RAM, Arc100 480GB SSD
You’ll be back and real quick. That game hasn’t had an update in months, and it’s not having any time soon
Its never a good time to try ESO.
lol

I LOVE gw2 but I’ve never tried ESO amd I’m a huge fan of Elder Scrolls games. It just seems like a good time to try it since HoT is overpriced at the moment. I’ll probably return to gw2 if ESO doesn’t do it for me AND the cost of HoT comes down to a better value. Again, I’d pay the 50+ happily if the amount of content seemed in line with the cost. It just doesn’t so it seems like a good time to try ESO.
I just think anet is making a huge mistake here. If the value was there, I wouldn’t even consider taking a break from gw2. Now I’m off to try a different game, and if it works for me, I may not be coming back. It seems like anet is gambling here and I don’t appreciate them gamble with a loyal gem purchaser like myself.
It’s like when Charter cable wouldn’t discount my bill even though I was a loyal customer of 10+ years. I ended up giving the better valued Direct TV a try. I ended up staying there because the service was so much better even though Charter continues to offer me all of these shiny new deals. Direct TV continually bends over backwards to keep me as a customer every time I call them to ask for better value. Charter lost their chance with me. There’s a similar danger to anet.
Maybe they should at least offer discounts for those of us that have supported the game with our wallets after the initial purchase price of the game. But they’d rather go for the money grab like Charter did with me. I really have no issue taking my money elsewhere as a result. Will I be back? It depends on how much “greener” the other grass is and whether or not anet amends this pricing plan.
I really wanted to like ESO, but i didn’t like the combat. The graphics were really amazing though.
you’re better off buying the wildstar humblebundle package for 1$ and get the 30 days for free, play them and later the game will become f2p, enjoy it until HoT gets released.
ESO is superior. I’m sorry to say. Has so much more to do and feels like a true MMO.
Indeed, kitten that 50 euro and no char slot. I hope you just killed your own game with your greed anet.
yeah, i am a good fan of gw2 too, but 45 euros? I dont know who the money maker is behind you guys, but please fire that person.
20 Euro is decent for an expansion and not a total new game, unless you guys are giving us a TOTAL NEW GAME.
Go for ESO, it´s a great game and the character development is hilariously superior. Especially to the gutted system this game is getting “slimlined” down to.
Send me your stuff please.
Send me your stuff please.
What would you do with my account bound stuff again?
It’s all soulbound because GW2 has no concept of what a loot system should be.
I took a break from GW2 a while back and tried ESO.
It was a trip into disappointment and frustration. Go ahead and try ESO, I think you’ll probably move on to yet another game or return to GW2 after you have leveled a character or two in ESO.
ESO has a staggering amount of content, both dynamic and traditional MMO quests. It’s got mounts, guild questlines, vamprisim and lycanthropy… GW2 in its current state feels like a shallow puddle by comparison.
So you’re upset and your logic is, go to a game that does the exact same thing, and probably worse. Brilliant!
I’ve been a loyal GW2 patron since release. Even spending a small amount of cash on gems every month. Up until now, GW2 has been a great value. But I just refuse to spend 50 bucks plus on Silverwastes 2.0 and some LS updates. Twenty even twenty-five bucks? Yes. Fifty? Not on your life. The value is just not there. The amount of content appears to be very slim for such a high dollar figure.
Especially since I’ve been eyeing up ESO since it released. And now that it’s B2P and discounted, it seems like the better value. Also, most of its bugs have been fixed and it’s received a nice amount of polish as well as new systems. Many of the issues players have complained about are gone.
So I think I’ve off to Tamriel for a while. At least until HoT comes down to a more realistic price based on the small amount of content it appears to be delivering.
we have no clue how much content HoT has. we dont know how many maps there are, we dont know how many dynamic events there are, we dont know how many story line missions there are, we dont know if there are dungeons / fractals or even raids. how can you objectively make this statement "But I just refuse to spend 50 bucks plus on Silverwastes 2.0 and some LS updates. " ?
I tried ESO and it made me sad. I don’t want to bash the game because it has had some really awesome work done on it. Elements of it were fantastic. I played at launch and there were some teething issues I was more than happy to overlook, and I assume they fixed some of the minor annoyances like ambient conversations on high repeat near the crafting tables. So, there were some things I liked better than GW2 and some things I didn’t like as much. I might have stuck with the game but for two things. The first is no longer relevant, which is the sub fee, the bits that were better weren’t worth the price. The other was that it did not play well as a multi player game, with the exception of WvW. I love that hearts and dynamic events can be done with other players. In ESO you are sometimes hindered by other players, and half the time they are fighting enemies that you can’t see.
Look, give it a go, you might enjoy it more than I did, but be warned that the game hassle fundamental problems. TERA and Wildstar are worth looking at too, though both have their issues as well.
Well I actually did (being a huge fan of Elder Scrolls for years). If you have a decent PC or console – ESO is a good way to spent your time. In some ways it reminds me of old-good M&M6-7 and stuff. BUT better graphics and really good quests.
To tell the truth nothing prohibits you to play these two games at the same time. =)
BUT there are several things that OP should know. First – AvA lag aka CyroLag. It is really that bad. 999+ms quite often when you try to fight zerg on zerg. BUT sieges themselves are really good and… well… realistic, more involving but sometimes boring. And last but not least – Veteran Raitings – can cause you a really fast burnout if you won’t manage your time leveling properly. BUT a good thing about VR areas is that you get a nice sandbox feeling at each location. Level range is so small that you can start anywhere you want (from north or south, east or west).
Frankly – ESO jorney is worth it and far more then GW2 main quest line. But engame is the thing that bothers me. Still I am only VR2 and have ALOT of stuff to do.

As we don’t know how much content there actually is, his argument is just as valid as yours…
Hi, I bought ESO fairly recently, my first non A-Net MMO, I have a high end system and it is absolutely gorgeous! I haven’t tried the PvP yet, but the PvE is really good and I like the combat system.
I’ve found the ESO quests more enjoyable that heart quests so far, but I’ve not gotten that far in to the story lines as I like to wonder around and play on different toons.
What I find really great about ESO is the UI mod’s you can get for it, they really allow you to customise the UI and see things how you want. If A-Net was going to take anything out of ESO it should be this, their default UI is on par with the GW2 UI, but with community mods it creams the GW2 UI, because each player can get the exact experience they want, regardless of how different their tastes are.
I’ve been logging in to GW2 regularly to get the daily rewards, just in case I need stuff for HOT, guess I’ll continue to do that but I won’t pre-order HOT because to me it’s questionable value. I’ll wait until after release and wait to see is there is more \o/ than qq … no reason I can’t play 2 MMOs :P
Amway, I bought ESO and haven’t had buyers remorse yet, so guess that’s a +1 from me

I am sorry but no. Not knowing how much content there is doesnt make comments stating how content starve this expansion is valid. Just like if I were to argue this expansion is overflowing with content completely bogus. We dont know means we dont know we cant infair anything in either direction.

Your Gw2 account is 2 years old and you’re comparing Questing with Hearts?
Surely you know Hearts arent Questing in Gw2, they never even were meant to be in Gw2 and but were added as markers for players based on testers feedback, to direct them in the general area of Dynamic events and give them something to do while they wait for dynamic events which are the real questing meat so to speak!
Come on now.. The core features Anet has listed are all there is. They’re not hiding anything. What you see is what you get.

ESO is decent game but has no longeivety. AvA is borked beyond repair it seems (since they only made problems worse since launch)

Hearts only have a value once, quests only have a value once, both are really useful for leveling, they serve the same role even though the mechanics differ.
Come on now.. The core features Anet has listed are all there is. They’re not hiding anything. What you see is what you get.
really so you dont mind tell me how many maps there are? or how many masteries? or how many new dungeons / fractals if any?
you will not mind tell me what the difficult group content anet have announced actually is?
They’re not hiding anything, I didnt state they did but they havent unveiled everything yet there is still much we dont know.
Hearts only have a value once, quests only have a value once, both are really useful for leveling, they serve the same role even though the mechanics differ.
Same can be said for crafting, doing vistas, jumping puzzles etc.. doesnt mean they’re comparable
and no they dont serve the same role, like I already stated hearts are only meant to direct you to the source of the real content which is dynamic events.
I’d find Gw2 the most boring MMO ever if leveling up meant just doing hearts.. they’re still better then generic quests sure for at least they offer multiple options how to complete them but they also serverly lack story while Dynamic events dont.
If I wanted to compare the best Gw2 has to offer with the best any other game has, using hearts as a bases is in my opinion disingenuous.
ESO is superior. I’m sorry to say. Has so much more to do and feels like a true MMO.
This is the problem right there. True MMOs suck. They’ve always sucked. Guild Wars 2 made an attempt, with mixed success, to take the suck out of MMOs.
ESO didn’t take the suck out of MMOs and so you’re right. It feels much more like an MMO. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only guy here who thinks the MMO industry is broken.

I used hearts for leveling in GW2 and I use quests in ESO for the same, they are both very good XP and very useful for leveling. Yes there are other ways to level and other things to do. For this quests have been more fun for me.

What? They add an entire new zone for free. I have the basic game (40$) and I have the full content-
I’ve been a loyal GW2 patron since release. Even spending a small amount of cash on gems every month. Up until now, GW2 has been a great value. Sorry to tell you, but ESO is crap. I bought it when it went f2p and and i’ve hardly logged in the past month, while i still play gw2 every day since head start.
I hate ESO’s clanky combat, the positive lack of any QoL, the trading system, the cost of skills ie: stamina/magicka and that 90% of the sky shards which give you skill points, are locked in dungeons. The leveling system is grindy and tediously long…it took me almost a month of regular play to reach lvl 10. My char is now lvl 39 and i’ve run out of quests in the last 2 maps i’ve been to where i’m having to fight mobs 3-4 lvls above me, unless i want to do dungeons. Lots of the quests are these very long chains where u have to do maybe 3-4 or even more quests fighting same mobs over and over b4 you get any reward, hence the slow lvling process.
The crafting is hideous. There’s such a lack of resources in maps, i can cover half a map and be lucky to get 2 nodes of ore, yet the requirement for crafting items is huge, even at low lvls.
For me the only redeeming thing was that at first, some of the quests seem to have some nice stories but after a while, you realise they’re all copy and paste with some variation. for eg: every map you go to, every town every npc you meet on the road is in trouble by one cult or another…every map has several of them and soon, they become very tedious. I got to a stage when i came to a new zone and saw an NPC in strife by the roadside (typically how u get quests) saying to myself. Oh no, let me guess, another cult abducted your wife, or daughter or husband etc. etc. And sure enough….
I could go on and on, but let me tell you this to conclude, ESO is not a patch on gw2, not by a long shot and for me at least, any price gw2 asks for its content is worth 3x over. Don’t get me wrong there are things i would like to see improved/added to gw2 and have my own issues with some aspects, but over all, it’s still the best game for me.
This is the problem right there. True MMOs suck. They’ve always sucked. Guild Wars 2 made an attempt, with mixed success, to take the suck out of MMOs.

I assume you are referring to themepark mmos.

Perhaps they should have released a bit more detail then. The whole ambiguity with regards to the “challenging content” alone is enough in itself to raise doubts.
ESO has its flaws too depending on what you’re expecting, but whatever floats your boat.
I used to be a power ranger, now not sure anymore
Well I applaud the slightly-more-creative-than-average-I-quit-thread.
But hey give ESO a try, maybe GW2 just wasn’t for you. After all if GW2 isn’t giving you entertainment (i.e. the purpose of video games) then you really shouldn’t have to play it.
It’s only disingenuous if I don’t believe what I’m saying, not because you disagree with me about it.

so what you’re saying is you truely believe hearts provide a better experiance then dynamic events? You real believe that?
You feel there are hearts that have better story / execution then say the dwarven artifact dynamic event chain from False lake in lonar’s pass?
or say the seraph assault on Centaur Camps which can nearly shift the entire map from centaur control to human control or vice versa?
or to some fun events like say how the dynamic event chain of captain Penzan intermixes with the priory research team dynamic event chain
or the one with the ettin suite
thats not to mention temple events, meta events and world bosses.
Do you real feel there are hearts that provide a much more epic experiance and if so mind sharing some?
Hah, every smallest content update in ESO is paid. Wonder what youll do on those forums lol

What I find really great about ESO is the UI mod’s you can get for it, they really allow you to customise the UI and see things how you want. Considering GW1’s UI was extremely customizable, I think Anet actively does not want anyone to have UI different from the default in GW2.
I play both games, I like both games, I fully intend to keep playing both for a long time. But I have to say if you’d put this post on the ESO forum they’d laugh at you.
As far as they’re concerned the game is riddled with bugs and will be for a long time to come because the PC version has been abandoned in favour of consoles and the console version is a poorly done port that was never really going to work to begin with.
They’d also tell you that you’re lucky to be getting an expansion at all and they’d love the chance to pay $50 for one. ESO has had precisely 1 new zone in the entire year it’s been out, and outside of that no new quests or dungeons or any other actual content. Several DLC packs have been promised to come out sometime after the console release, but they’re the same ones that have been promised ‘sometime soon’ since the game was released.
As I said I like both games, but this is definitely a case of ‘the grass is always greener on the other side’.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”

At the time of the release you HAD to pay 60+15/month to play that content. Thats NOT free.
And from now on EVERY DLC they release will be paid.
Nothing for free.
