It’s simple, sell Ascended Armor for 30 laurels + 1000 Emp Fragments/1000 Dragonite ore/1000 Bloodstone Dust each and Ascended Weapons for 40 Laurels each.

6 × 30 = 300 laurels.

To get full Ascended, it would take many months.

OR raise a crafting profession to 500, build your own, do it slightly less than it takes in laurels.

Wat

1. get 500 crafting
2. buy the recipie for the item u want to craft for 5 laurels
3. farm world bosses / dungeons / champs to get all the ores / dusts / fragments you need
4. farm dungeons for a few days, this will get you enough gold to buy most of the items u need from TP
5. craft said gear in less then a week.

when ascended weapons was added took me 5 days to farm everything needed to craft my 2x pistols and then another 5 days for my rifle. this was due to lack of supply of mats.
when ascended armor was released I had the full set of armor 2 hours after the update went live, how did I do this u asked.
we had months to stock pile t6 mats + ectos / laurels and I also bought the cheapest exotic gear in the game to salvage for dark matter. I then farmed all the ascended mats and kept them all un refined in my bank just incase (and im glad I did as lesser vision crystals was added).
even now I still have 15 stacks of each ore un refined ready and waiting just incase they add ascended aqua breathers or I might decide to lvl up an alt with a different armor type and make a full set + weapons for them aswell.

anyway ascended armor is not aimed at “casual players” its aimed at long term players / fractal runners (I am lvl 50 and was 55 before the revamp) and people who just like to have Best in Slot armor / weapons.

to make a full set of armor + 3-4 weapons you are looking at around 50-60 laurals. considering the change to laurels that’s like 2 months of logging into the game to get the recipes you need.

ofc most of the ppl u will meet with full ascended sets starting prepairing for it the day ascended armor was announced by anet in a video they did. and so ppl got ready and had everything stock piled.
we also had the queens jublee go live the same time we had weapons. so I used that place to stock pile t6 mats and sell stuff and made a small fortune. which in turn was invested in tradeable ascended items to speed up the crafting process.

o and by the way. due to todays dungeon model u can earn 100g a week purely from speed running all the popular dungeon paths a day (that’s less then 2 hours work) which can be done in the evenings. I know this because I did it and kept a record of how much gold I made a day. this include selling items that drops / tokens for armor to salvage.

so yes it might take newer players longer to craft ascended. but o well. its a goal to work for. it also teaches u how to be abetter player and how to make gold more effectively with the limited time you have to play the game . which is a very good thing.

It’s simple, go for Teq/3 wurm, or sPvP chests, and hope one will loot you an “ascended chest”. There are also 2 collections.

And don’t forget, 6*10 = 100.

I made my full ascended in like 25 days. There’s really no use for that and it’s just a waste of laurels. I mean the gold I worked for maybe like 2-3 weeks to get enough gold just playing casually and I made it little by little. Just try not to think of it as a chore and not have that “I need my ascended now, I need it asap” mentality. But then again you gotta consider the amount of gold I put in to get my professions to 500 which is quite a bit but gold is pretty easy with dungeons and world bosses available. Just play, save gold and you’ll eventually have the items required to make it

Sure. If they’re 100 laurels a piece which is more or less how much you would spend by converting laurels to gold and getting them the primary way.

If they were to ever offer this, I would hope they would list them at over 100 laurels. I mean, they have two minis and a tonic that go for 75 and 100 laurels; ascended gear better cost more than those.

Given that you can open your wallet and instantly have a legendary weapon or 95% of any ascended item by converting gems>gold, I find your argument completely invalid – still a very long time gate because you can not “farm” laurels.

You can actually get two ascended armor pieces completely of your choosing through collections. Ambrite weapons and Luminescent armor.

I will decide what is and isn’t needed for myself, thank you very much. There is certain stuff that I can’t complete without ascended, so yeah, ascended is needed.

That aside, it really doesn’t matter whether it isn’t or is needed. BiS is supposed to be easily obtainable. That is the idea that ANet set forth. They went back on that decision, and they have never done anything to help rectify it.

As for those two collections: One relies on RNG, the other on completing an entire seasons worth of content and then some. What a wonderful grind.

I’d rather just wait for ANet to eventually cave. I mean, that’s why they made Ascended in the first place. They caved to all the gear progression nuts that decided to come and ruin a game that wasn’t supposed to have gear progression. So, it’s only a matter of time before they cave again, and we finally get back to being the game this was supposed to be.

There is a countless amount of people who geared all their characters in ascended gear without need for grinding.

Just because there is some uber minority that think it’s too hard, doesn’t mean it has to be brought down to meet their requirements.

I really hope anet will change the basic mat drop rate with the new addon. Ascended Armor and Weapons are way to cheap and to easy to obtain right now. It should at least cost twice as much.

But it would be nice if we could sell them at the traiding post. (Of course around the same price as precursors have)

Call me a scrub, but I’d like it if they were in de gem shop. I cant be bothered to level that tedious 400-500 to spend hunderds of golds and have to farm again so I can create one single ascended item.

They should have a 3rd way of getting ascended equipment in GW2.

I hate crafting in GW2 and don’t bother with it at all really, because its just click 10,000 times, end up with 1 item (possible exaggeration).

So that leaves me with RNG which is currently not a viable way of getting full ascended equipment. I tried with WvW chests, fractals and PvP, got a ascended greatsword which was great (WvW chest) but the other ascended drops were all rings, lots of utterly useless ascended rings!

I also play Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls and Path of Exile, the crafting is more simplified in those game but far, far more enjoyable, crafted 10,000’s of items in those games.

GW2 crafting is too cumbersome/clunky and uses far too many materials.

Laurels were introduced specifically as an alternate method of obtaining ascended gear, so your argument is circular. If there were better methods of obtaining ascended, there wouldn’t have been a need to create laurels sink, because laurels wouldn’t even exist.

Ascended gear is easy to get. Just slightly expensive and time consuming. There is no “gear treadmill” since they announced ascended is the final tier of gear in GW2. This method of getting BiS gear is far superior to other games that have you grind the same content over and over and over and over for the chance of getting a piece you want.

Give me an easy crafted item even with time gate over forced replaying of the exact same content….

Ascended is a PITA to get. I hate crafting. Its dumb. Its not fun. Why it was ever invented, and then a game based it around its end game is beyond me. Currently doing dungeons for the gold for the mats. But it literally just took me 20g for 150 in weaponsmith. That was like 4-5 days of dungeon running for me (and my limited time.) And then nearly an entire play sessioin just to get those 150 points.

I hate crafting, and don’t want to be good at it.

I tried following a guide and was half successful. At a certain point of complexity and unfun (in a GAME) I’ll say screw it.

I can’t imagine how expensive its going to get, then to get 500 for armor, then get another 500 weapon craft so I can have my secondary as ascended as well. Frankly it may drive me away from the game for good (and certainly not buy any expansion.)

Its certainly not the TIME or money investment that is my problem. I played EQ for 5 years. It is the PITA crafting.

I see the word craft in there and acknowledge that crafting is one of the hardest and most complex aspects of this game. So getting from lvl 400-500 is massively hard and time consuming….
