Also if you’re reading the forums looking for feedback on the game, to help make your decision, be warned. There is ALOT of negative feedback here, and alot of the bug issues being talked about are to due a massive patch recently. They are getting fixed, and many people don’t like them, but it does take time. Don’t let that sway your judgement.

Because everything here is sunshine and rainbows, and any mentioned problems are obviously made up by said “whiners and complainers”. And there’s nothing biased in that opinion at all.
And more seriously? Wait a bit. At this moment the game is in transition stage, with lot of questionable changes introduced that poisoned the community, and it is hard to tell whether it bounces back and recovers, or not.

Beware – all the reviews of this game are VERY outdated and the game itself has undergone some rather heavy handed changes. With the new changes etc the scores would be significantly lower in reviews as you can tell by the current community outrage.
Its longer and duller to level characters, you can no longer build an actual build till level 60+.
server communities no longer exist outside wvw.
a server merge has just occured which is usually a bad bad sign for life expectancy of the mmo.
All content added has been temporary in nature with no significant new areas added to game.
If looking to putchase – be very careful to have a good look around at blogsites online as theres heavy moderation in these forums.
as the game currently stands – i would not advise a friend to get it.

@OP well,if u have a group in RL that are used to play together this is a good game, game is balanced towards groups of 5 player teams, spvp and tpvp arent bad, WvW could be more better designed but does it job, u can join the big army or make a havok squad and try to cap camps behind th enemy cutting their suply.
If you were a pve gammer only i would not recommend this game, or recommend to avoid it.

I find it so. Of course the random mobs, as in any MMO, are easy, unless you are jumped by 10 of them at the same time. I liked the boss fights though. The dragons are fun, IMO. It does give me a sense of enjoyment when taking down a GIANT FREAKING DRAGON!. Thats just me though. One of the biggest things about this game is that there is no subscription fee, so I don’t feel like I HAVE to play to get my moneys worth. I can step away for a few months, and come back and be right where I left off. Of course the world will have changed dramatically, with the Living Story and all, but that makes it seem more “alive” to me then having nothing change in a long absense.

There’s a difference between constructive criticism and whining and complaining.
These forums rarely have any constructive criticism. Mostly just “whinewhinewhine, you didn’t cater specifically to me, the entitled person that I am, whinewhinewhine”.

Convince me I want to own this game, why would I spend any amount of time of my day with this game?

Depends. At first, it would feel so – and it would be easy. Due to sheer number of people running around in every map after the Megaserver merge killing things is not a problem, and it is really easy to gear up in basics. Problems start the moment you hit level 80 and begin to want something more. Basically everything “superfluous”, including visually nice stuff, and BiS (best stat) gear requires a massive grind. It is also way easier to get most of those things from Trading Post for ingame gold than get them on your own (which says a lot if you consider that the prices are mostly dictated by the wealthiest top % of community, and keep increasing fast). Due to this, after a certain point killing stuff really stops feeling rewarding (unless you kill a ton of them in order to farm gold or valuable drops to sell on TP).
Some activities still may be fun even then (i personally like lot of dungeons, and WvW – current “casual mode” type of mass PvP). Anet tries to kill our boredom by means of Living Story – biweekly temporary events. This generally works, though would work better if Anet ever decided they don’t have to create lot of those events around a heavy grind.
TL/DR: it’s not a very good MMO, but it has potential that could be realized if the developers ever remembered what they once wanted to achieve. The main reason to play it is that at the moment the other games in the same category are either aged, or visibly worse in some way. It is also buy to play, without a subscription, so it is cheap to try out.

@goldenwing, I own 2 copies :P and have been playing since beta – But I love hearing the positive and negative responses from the people who live on these forums, the personal attacks, the demeaning responses and the blind loyalty are awesome.
The one or two honest replies are worth it, but I wonder if those people will still feel the same way 6 months from now, if they won’t feel a little silly reading what they wrote.

What about those who ARE working towards bettering themselves, and are NOT addicts, but enjoy a casual game to play as a way to relax and unwind? You ask us to give you advice as to whether or not you should get the game, and then you insult us by calling us losers and addicts?

Bah, I’ll be honest I spent so much time on GW1 I have difficulty, I’m actually tempted to re-install GW1 to give away presents more than logging in to GW2 to pay for them.

Rarely does anyone post any constructive ideas about ways to improve the game.
Usually just whines and rants, complaints, and people upset because they want the game to be their own way and no one else’s.
Those same people generalize everyone like me as “Anet fanboys”, too. Although, I am hardly an Anet fanboy. I just don’t whine like the majority.
You know, a lot of people say that playing any game is waste of your time…I disagree because I like playing games…however you know you are not going to play this game and you are still talking about it…..that to me is a waste of time. kek
