Q:

Hypothetically speaking. Say my guild maxed out of hall, and offered it for sale to someone for in-game Gold. That someone would deposit a large lump sum of Gold into the Guild Bank, and each member takes their max share of 500 Gold each. Upon receipt of said Gold, the person is then made Guild Leader, and all members left. From my understanding of the User Agreement, this should be acceptable. Am I correct?

Given that the cost for a fully upgraded Hall is about 19.5k, it’d take 39 consecutive weeks for a buyer to buy that Hall with the 500g a week limit

I thought there was only a limit on withdrawals and not deposits.

Prob fine, but if someone gets scammed Im not sure where they stood with Anet. They usually dont get involved in private transactions. The potential for being scammed is massive.

We are introducing a change to gold transfers as part of an effort to address fraud and account theft. Beginning on March 31, 2015, there will be a limit on how much gold a single player can receive through in-game mail and/or the Guild Vault each week. This limit, which is based on historical data, should not affect the normal transfer of gold between players. It is designed to prevent rapid and abusive transfers of gold that may be part of account takeovers, fraud, and RMT (gold selling).

Full details about the system:

  1. Each account will have a limit on how much gold can be moved from its mail in-box and Guild Vault into its wallet each week.
  2. If you receive more gold through in-game mail than you can accept in a week, the gold will remain attached to the mail in your in-box and can be retrieved up to the limit the following week or in subsequent weeks.
  3. For the purposes of this limit, a week begins at 12:01 AM UTC each Sunday (5:01 PM PDT/4:01 PM PST Saturday).
  4. Gold received from the Trading Post is not subject to this limit.
  5. The maximum amount of gold that can be sent via a single in-game mail will be 500 gold.
  6. The maximum total amount of gold that an individual player account can accept in a week will be 500 gold.
  7. We will monitor this system and may make changes to the limits if we find that changes are necessary.

Includes the amount someone can send/deposit as well. Given the amount of money that needs to be put into a hall, if you’re looking to make a profit, you’re better off flipping the TP or farming something else. Selling a bare-bones Guild Hall for much less money is viable I suppose

Mostly it’s the withdrawal that the problem. Let’s say you price it at 4k gold. That means it will take you 8 weeks to pull that out of the guild bank and they’ll have to wait that long for you to transfer leadership to them. Depending on what else you do, if you transfer funds between alt accounts or other guildies for guild purposes, you can’t do that for those 8 weeks because you will have already hit the 500 gold/week limit.

This seems very shady to me. Whats to stop a guild leader from having his guild donate in to max out a guild hall, then kick everyone from the guild and sell it to keep the gold for himself?

People did this in GW1 as well – created a guild, purchased a hall, and all the npcs, then sold it. I don’t recall if that was ‘accepted’ practice there, but I don’t recall anyone being banned for it. Thought it’s a tad bit trickier here, given the lack of player to player trading and the 500g withdrawl limit.

Its probably ‘ok’ but if you get scammed, they aren’t going to help you fix it.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

A lot of people seem to be misunderstanding my assumptions. I didn’t know that there’s a limit to how much a player can deposit into a Guild Bank. If a player wanted to deposit 25,000 Gold, that they can only do so 500 Gold at a time. I thought the limit only applies to sending and receiving Gold directly via mail.

As for the withdrawal, if there are 50 members in this hypothetical guild, and each took out the max 500 Gold, the full sale amount can be done within a few minutes. Then all guild members would leave, allowing the purchasing player to retain the Guild Hall and all upgrades for their self. They would just have to live with the Guild name and tag.

The quote I put up says nothing about a limit on one person giving. The limit is only on the recipient. From what it says, one person could put the full amount in the guild bank. If multiple people then take out 500 gold each then that would be a fast way to do it.

If that’s the case, then this is a great opportunity for small guilds who want a fully upgraded Hall to themselves, or for their small group! As long as we’re within the rules, we could start a Guild Hall selling service.

Well, good luck with it. Most new guilds are going to be both gold and resource poor and older guilds should already have a guild bank/hall. But maybe you’ll find customers who are both new and rich.

Advertising your service is going to be a problem though. Can’t use LFG, so word of mouth or map chat spam.

Not completely, no. They can access the map but non HoT players can’t access all the vendors. ANet didn’t elaborate beyond that statement in their blog so I have no idea how restrictive that is.

But, isn’t the deposit limit 3000 Gold, total? How could one sell a Guild for more? Set up a payment plan? Would anyone be willing to do that? I guess, but it’s a lot of trust on the buyer’s part.

People will just use this as a scam. I wouldn’t trust anyone to actually turn over anything once I’d paid them the gold. They’ll just kick me out, keep the money, and sell the thing all over again.

Rinse and repeat.

I guess they could do it in stages. Put in 3000. Take out 3000. Put in remainder. Take out remainder.

Involves a lot of trust, which to me is a big problem with this idea.

All the more reason not to put any real effort/resources/gold into building a guild hall that ultimately is owned by one person, and that person can do whatever they please with it.

I think you’d be better off selling your time. Offering to help someone unlock a guild hall by temporarily joining their guild.

I have a one person guild. How much would you and your companions charge to help do the initial taking of a guild hall?

Not only that, but a lot of time. Well, I guess unless there are many people withdrawing. I don’t know if there is any time-restraints on amount deposited.

What if you wanted to sell a personal guild? ( inventory slots only ) Could someone offer 500 gold and 100 unidentified dyes ( random example ) – is this allowed?

It’s not forbidden. But if one side gets scammed, support will only sanction the scammer. The other person won’t get it back. (And you can’t sell through the LFG either, only by advertising in map chat or asking people you know if they want to buy).
