Taking a break from GW2 to play various
Nintendo games..
So I’ve been thinking about making bifrost, which is currently the most expensive legendary weapon. I don’t want to wait for precursor crafting to come out , because if the HoT comes out in late august or later, I won’t have time to play it so I want to finish the bifrost now.
I heard from a friend that they plan on making Rodgort or the Minstrel, and then selling it to raise funds for their other more expensive legendary. If I did this too, I could make one of those two weapons for about 1000-1200 gold (based on my current supply of mats) and sell it for around 2000 gold, so I’d make a rough profit of 500-600ish gold that way.
Do you guys think that this is a good idea? I have already made one legendary, so I’d have to do map completion again, which I don’t mind too much as my next highest character is at 60%. The only other hitch would be if reveals and info on precursor crafting somehow crashes the markets for these goods, but idk if thats likely. And even after selling the cheaper legendary, I’d still have another 700-800 more gold to make the bifrost. So, what do you guys think?
minus 15-20% (not sure but a rough estimate) from the TP fee’s. not much profit really. most money makers or people who own tonnes of legendaries either have like no life, or spend lots of IRL money.
I used to do it but it stopped being worth it once precursor collections were announced.
Considering the time it takes to make a legendary (map completion and crafting) I do not think that the profit margin is worth it.
Okay guys thanks for the responses, I have decided to just make one legendary for myself instead over the next few months.
There’s a 300-500~ gold profit per legendary crafted. Been doing that for some time. All you need is be quick on world exploration and karma to supply your crafting.
For one, I sold Bifrost once for 800 gold profit and bought out Eternity with acquired gold.
I did it recently with rodgort, but I had most of the t6 mats already.
The amazing thing is how quickly I spent the gold afterwards =D
You should be making at least 500g on every legendary you make (go for the more expensive ones…bifrsot is probably a safe bet) but usually you will make more…up to 800g if the price is right. So really the biggest problem is map completion because it is incredibly boring. If you don’t mind map completion then selling a legendary is not a bad thing in my opinion. Where else are you gonna make that amount of money?
Basicaly it is up to you. People who say it is not worth it just don’t need the money and can’t be bothered to spend 2 weeks running around, discovering all the POIs. Or they have figured out something more profitable with less effort…but good luck with that .

You’re looking at the accounting profit rather than the economic profit.
If you’re going to use materials you already own, then you’d have to subtract their sale value from your profit as well.
I know you won’t be able to sell crafted precursors, but not sure if that also applies to legendaries made with them.
Map completion is the easy part of this equation. The hard part is the money sunk in constantly for all the 250 T6 mats needed for every legendary crafted and sold.
Check legendary Sell price and the Total price (all the way below) on http://www.gw2legends.net/ and enter it on http://tpcalc.com/ .
Bifrost is a 300 gold profit, Meteorlogicus is a 500 gold profit.
Just going to add my personal experience with this, I made two Bifrosts, Bolt, and Twilight all just for profit. Saving up for the new legendaries that I might like Bifrosts costed a bit more, but Twilight (my most recent made one) I had made for only ~1400g and sold for 3100g or 3300g or whatever the price was a week ago. So it was pretty good margin considering everything involved.
I’d recommend doing it, but you have to understand all the time involved, the karma you need, and the other time-gated materials you need (dungeon tokens, etc.). Good luck!

Ah. So you must’ve been one of the lucky ones to have gotten the precursor as a drop?
Making Twilight and Sunrise into a sellable Eternity and being able to use the skins on the wardrobe set me up for my awesome digital life.
I get tons of obsidian shards from pvp, so the karma’s not really an issue. Still I’ll consider it strongly for sure.
Attached is what the prices were back in late April. When I checked last week, they were slightly lower. A legendary breaking 800 gold profit doesn’t ocur often anymore and they most definitely have not broken 1K since the HoT announcement. Even before that, it was a rarity but I did see some that did briefly.

The cost column there is using only buy orders?
Also besides world completion there are also the dungeon tokens. Then there is value of the skill points. Taking a modest value of 30s/sp in the middle of the range and assuming you have a bit of luck so you only need 250 SP that is another 75g to subtract from the profit.
As for using buy orders, what would the profit be if you simply flipped all those items? Doing that carries a much smaller risk than trying to sell the legendary.

Nope, I worked very hard to save up money. Then after I made the first one, it got the ball rolling so I could just keep purchasing the precursors

Yes, cost is based off the price of buy orders. If I was going to calculate the actual economic profit, I would start by going off sell prices for all mats needed. These costs were based in having none of the mats so trying to flip them wasn’t applicable.
You can easily take out at least half of the profit if you figure out how long it would take you to do world completion and then multiply that by the rate you would earn gold in an hour. This value will vary depending on various factors such as world completion status, the methid of farming you could have done in that time, and your efficiency.
