Selling legendaries via mail system
usually everything that isnt forbidden is allowed.
as far as i recall you are allowed to sell legendaries over mail but if the other one scams you, you wont see anything
It’s not illegal but it’s a horrible idea that breeds scamming and they would prefer that people didn’t.
It’s not illegal, but if you get scammed, anet will punish the scammer but they will not refund your gold or item.
They have said multiple times that transactions done outside the TP are things that are risky and you should rust the other party, as they will not waste support’s time restoring items and such in the case of scams when they already built a completely safe system.

Thanks for the answers. The rumour that you get banned in any case is still going around and now I’mnot sure what to believe.

Here is you answer.
Please keep in mind that if you lose gold in this manner it will not be returned. Please also remember that any account that we verify to have been involved in the defrauding of players will be investigated and suspended or terminated.
And this.
1. We do not reimburse wealth lost to other players for any reason if it is outside of the Black Lion Trading Post. This is because Customer Support can not duplicate wealth. With the volume of requests coming in we alone would damage the economy if we were to restore wealth lost when trading takes place.
2. We terminate accounts permanently for defrauding (scamming). If you are found to make a deal to trade (say, sword for gold) and not hold up your end we will investigate and terminate. If you are the victim of a scam you should submit a support ticket and provide what you lost and the time and date as accurately as you recall. This is usually all we need to research the event but we will ask you if we need more info. You do have a right to know the outcome of these investigations but be aware these take us a few days to resolve.
-snip-
Please understand that you are allowed to trade outside of the BLTP – but you will not receive replacements for lost items or gold.

Exactly what Mr PopeUrban sir said. He tells no lies. You will no doubt never see the item or money again, the scammer will be perma-banned, but you will not be re-imbursed.
Think of it like this; Two different newspaper headlines.
Today the Queen of Englands’ family jewels arrived safely under heavily armed guard.
Today the Queen lost her family jewels when they fell out of a wet paper bag.
One of the statements is akin to the Trading Post, the other is like trusting your jewels in a wet paper bag.
Rich.
Unless you’re trading with a friend you trust, it’s just too risky to trade anything of value via the mail system. The TP fee might hit hard, but getting ripped off hits harder.

Back in the earlier days, people who sent larger amounts of gold through the mail were flagged as gold sellers and banned.
Thanks a lot for the elaborated answer qugi and the the following confirmation. I appreciate ur help

You very welcome.
Not to be pedantic but illegal isn’t the right word to use. Violating the TOS or against the game rules is.
You’d have to work hard to actually break the law of whatever country you’re in within GW2.

It’s risky to be pedantic. Ever hear of an illegal play in a sport?
adjective
1. forbidden by law or statute.
2. contrary to or forbidden by official rules, regulations, etc.:
The referee ruled that it was an illegal forward pass.
Anyway, it’s not against any rules, but it’s not supported, either. You also run the risk of being mistakenly flagged as something suspicious going on due to the large transaction being done through the mail. It’s probably a minimal risk, but there’s a chance you and your trading partner might have to contact support to clear things up if something happens.
