Q:

Hello guys

So I have this phoenix skin from back when it was released. Bhought 2 because, stupid me, 2 pistols doesnt equal 2 skins….

So I have 1 unused skin. Want to send it to a guildy. Is that banable? Like I’ve seen some get banned for sending legendaries.

Send anything you like to anyone you like. It’s perfectly fine.

You have not seen anyone banned for sending legendaries.

People get banned for cheating, buying gold from illicit sites, botting, and so on. Sometimes those people send skins or gear, but that’s not the reason for the ban.

I’ve given away two legendary weapons in the past, and I’ve not been banned. I suspect this banning you’ve ‘seen’ (you’ll only have heard it from other players not ArenaNet themselves) had underlying causes i.e. they bought the gold for the legendary weapons via RMT.

If you send a lot of things to a lot of people (especially high value items) your account can be flagged for suspicious activity and may be banned as a possible gold-seller. But even then if you contact Support you can get your account back.

But sending 1 skin should be fine. There’s a topic on this forum specifically for gifting items to other players and I haven’t heard of anyone involved in that having problems.

I know of some people who have contact Support in advance to alert them to upcoming suspicious looking activity on their account, like collecting donations from friends to make a legendary weapon to gift to another friend, or sending out prizes after a guild event or a fundraiser like Pink Day in LA. But I’m not sure that’s actually necessary or effective.

I have also heard that clearly stating why you’re sending it in the mail when you send the item can help. And if it’s not a surprise discuss it with the recipient in-game and make a note (outside the game!) of when and which chat channel. That way if you are banned you have a record to use to prove your innocence.

But like Penelope I suspect that a lot of the people protesting bans are not as innocent as they claim. Maybe their most recent transaction was innocent but they did something forbidden a few days or weeks before and it took a while for Anet to investigate.

Or they genuinely don’t realise they’ve done anything wrong – I’m forever encountering people who are shocked that MMO developers cruelly punish “hard working” or “skilled” players who are so kind and generous that they’re willing to share their gold with others without getting anything in return except a payment of real-world cash. It throws me every time but people really don’t seem to grasp that there’s anything wrong with that.

it isn’t bannable in the slightest. I’ve sent many skins to my friends over the years, and haven’t been banned.

(edited because I misread the post and thought you were talking about the armor skin of the same name.)

Sending a skin or a legendary is not or ever has been, bannable. We even have community threads especially set up to facilitate gifting of such items.
