I want my BF and sister to be on the Tarnished Coast with me.

I got both of them to get accounts but when they try to go to the Tarnished Coast server it’s telling them “full” and they cannot make characters there. That is the only server I have played on it’s the de-facto RP realm, and THAT’S THE SERVER WE WANT.

Megaserver? I don’t care. I want RP.

So please tell me there is another de-facto RP realm in this game? Or please tell me that those distinctions like “full” change throughout the day. Can we try to get on there really early in the morning or something? I am a Tarnished Coast player, I have loved that server since I first started and I want us all there.

Ughhh, my biggest gripe about MMOs across the board is that there is always so much red tape associated with them. “You can’t do this” You can’t do that" “You can only do this is the stars and the moon are all aligned.”

How do I get my family on the Tarnished Coast? If there is no way is there another RP friendly server?

You (they) can wait and check back often to find an off-peak time. I am on JQ but de-facto I play with people from TC all the time. Don’t even have to guest anymore.

You won’t be able to do WvW with your friends if they are not on the same world. That is the problem I’m having too. I’m on Tarnished Coast (don’t want to leave), but they are all on Sorrow’s Furnace, so yeah. We can’t WvW ever.

I mean it really doesn’t matter what server you are on since all the maps are all pretty much connected via the megaserver, even the guilds are server wide… You can easily just play with them if they go on another server like SoS or something. It doen’t seem like you care much for doing WvW which would be the only reason I could think of trying to get on the same server as each other. I had a similar thing happen with my friend and they just picked a server to play on, havent had any problems at all with connecting with them or anything like that.

So Rouven is right in that we can wait till later tonight or some crazy off hours and perhaps the server might not be marked as full, right? Those distinctions DO change throughout the day, correct?

There’s no such thing as Tarnished Coast server for PvE anymore, it’s all Megaserver, your caring or not has nothing to do with this objective fact.

You can meet with anyone on any NA server without guesting. In the event you aren’t automatically assigned the same Megaserver, you can join through the party UI with 2 clicks (being in the same guild and on each other’s friends lists should generally cause you to be placed in the same Megaserver anyway).

The only thing that distiguishes the servers is the WvW, It does not matter what server you are on for PvE, RP whatever.

As TC is one of the bigger servers for WvW to my understanding, your best bet would be to wait untill after the Tourney which ends in 4 weeks.

What do you expect Anet to do? TC is a popular server and a full server is a full server. There isn’t anything they can do about it. I don’t understand why you are mad at the game over this. Full severs happen.

I have never really did WvW seriously, but it I did, I would probaby RP there. I RP everywhere. I don’t know what I am gonna get into playing with them.

Look, either way is there another de-facto RP server in NORTH AMERICA? I really enjoyed TC and I at least want to know they are on the same server with me.

Just take into account that TC is amongst the top ranking WvW servers so your going to get a lot of people trying to join it for WvW and if its also the server that RPers want to get on as well then you will have a lot of people constantly trying to get onto it.

but like said above the megaserver system will more often then not place you on the same maps as friends, guildies and party members and if not its very simple to join the same version of a map as them anyway.

Unless they are willing to delete the character again and start over:

“The transfer fee is waived for accounts without any active characters.”

Names of a deleted character are reserved for you for 24 hours.

Thanks a lot for that info, Shalloe. If it comes down to it I’ll pay it for them it’s not that big of a deal.

It’s a bit better knowing that the status “full” changes and is not locked so we’ll try later tonight or early in the morning at like 4am or something, hehe.

That’s what we’ll do, Fay. Either that or just have them roll anywhere and delete the char and transfer later as someone else suggested. They aren’t in massive rush to play today so it’s all good.

Since that tournament is going on does Anet keep the server locked @ full? I am seeing some stuff on the net that says they mark server population by accounts on the server and not the amount of actual people logged on, is that true?

There are no more servers anymore my friend, only chaos. Although, you should try Piken Square, it is…….was, the unofficial EU RP server of the game, until megamauler ripped it to shreads.

“Sometimes” is the keyword here, as most of the time now, when people are “fewer” on the map, you get the good old “Your instance will close, move to a high populated area please” message.

I would not choose Piken Square as it is EU. OP is in the US I would imagine from their choice of server.

Not sure how much RP is done in WvW but if it was during prime time and there were queues to get in and the RP was not productive toward the goals of the majority be very very prepared for map chat to get ugly toward you.

But if the chances of you guys ever doing WvW is slim, I honestly would not bother transferring to another server or waiting too long to pick the first home server. And I would wait to transfer in until after the tournament. The players who just bandwagon to the server for the rewards may hop off.

Jade Quarry and Blackgate are the other two top-tier servers, but unlike TC you won’t find any RP there at all. Supposedly WvW dominates much of the community there and you’ll be hard pressed to find PvE guilds, but I have no experience in that matter and cannot confirm the veracity of such claims.

Server affiliation only determines what server you fight for in WvW.

Megaserver is for PvE maps, basically the old way was every server had its own “main” copy of Divinity’s Reach, Gendarran Fields, Plains of Ashford, etc. so unless you saw “overflow” in the minimap, you were guaranteed to be in the same map as everyone else on your server; megaserver gets rid of the “main” maps and essentially turns all maps into “overflows”, filling the map with anyone from any server and only creating new copies of the map when it fills up.

The megaserver will still try to pair you up with people from the same guild/server when you enter a map, so you can still run across other RPers (moreso in capital cities), but that becomes less true as you head into less populated maps.

Just be glad you missed the first few weeks of the megaserver when matching didn’t work at all and RPers were rubbing shoulders with people who were hostile toward RPing.

There used to be physical servers for PvE. They simply don’t exist anymore. If you were on Tarnished Coast, you wouldn’t get into a Tarnished Coast server. You’d get into a server. That’s it. Not Tarnished Coast. Just a server.

There’s an formula that determines where you’re placed. It’s based on “home server”, guild and your friends list.

If one person is on Tarnished Coast and another is on Jade Quarry, you can still play PvE together or even SPvP. The only thing you can’t do is WvW together.

If you end up on different maps of the same server and you’re partied, just right click on the person’s portrait and click join in that server. Then you’re all playing together in PvE no matter what server you’re on.
