Server
I bought this game yesterday and really want to play WvW with my friends on Jade Quarry but sadly it is ALWAYS full. I know that there is no way for me to get in unless someone leaves. I’ve been checking google and the forums for information about full servers and found that the world that you are in does not matter, so you can play with friends regardless of the world you are in. But I want to be in this world because my friends are in it and they want to play WvW with them and I cant because the servers are full. I’ve been trying to see when the server goes to very high by logging off and relaunching the game for about 5 hours now with still no luck. I just wanted to say is there any way that there can be a refresh button or something to refresh the worlds because logging out and in hundreds of time gets really annoying. I know I’m not the only one saying this and I know i not the first saying this but can there be anything done about this? All we need is a refresh button so it does not make us players exit and relaunch the game hundreds of times just to see if the server population has gone down. Also, any word on server population cap going up because that could be a solution too. I’m not saying you guys should pick it up and do it because I said so, I’m just wondering if there is anything you guys can do. Thanks.
Jade Quarry is the top NA server, I hate to be the one to tell you this but I don’t think you’ll ever get on it. They recently changes the algorithm to tell if a server is full or not based on WvW presence and I assume JQ WvW map presence is 24/7.
Yeah I know it’s the top NA server but that’s not the point. You can still get in if someone leaves right? And what I really wanted from making this post was to see if there could be a refresh button on the server list instead of making us relaunch the game hundreds of times. We can still get in but it’s a small chance. Making the refresh but will save time and make it easier for us.
Well like I said, the new system for seeing if a server is full or not is based on the WvW population alone. I think it uses some sort of average number of players in WvW. Now I have never been on JQ but my understanding of T1 WvW is that it is almost always queued to some extent. Which means it is always full. I’m not trying to discourage you, I am just giving you the facts as I know them.
Maybe try really early in the morning?
Or ask your friends to change server so you can play together.
Since the recent changes to how they judge server population, the best guess is that Jade Quarry and all top tier servers are going to remain at full for a long time coming. It will not be possible to transfer to them even if people leave because they are all way past the full metric.
It does not open up when someone leaves. All servers will remain at their current status until wvw populations are updated again. They measure wvw population over an unknown period of time, and update server status at an unknown time.

Edit: the important info
This should be rolled out tomorrow.
To answer a bunch of questions that I’ve seen on this thread:
- The price to move to a server of a given population level isn’t changing. What’s changing is the way population levels are attributed to the servers.
- I won’t detail the way the new algorithm works, because I want to minimize the risk of people trying to game it. That being said, I am confident it is robust against such attempts. It’s not looking at a short period of time, and it’s looking at many aspects of the ways players are interacting with WvW to determine a server population.
- It will continue to be impossible to join or transfer to Full servers. It is possible that some servers are going to be marked as Full for a long time. While I understand this can be annoying for some, this is necessary to create a better experience for everyone.
- I agree that asking new players to chose a World before doing anything in the game is odd, now that Worlds are a WvW concept. This isn’t something we can change easily, however, but I’ll keep it in mind if an occasion arises.
- Please keep in mind that this won’t have an immediate, instantaneous effect on your WvW experience. The effect of the change will take some time to be observable from a player perspective – it should however be visible pretty quickly on my side, and I’ll make sure it’s going in the right direction.
Once this change has been deployed, I’d like to hear what you think about the population level your server now has. Specifically, I’m interested in hearing about feelings of mismatch (like “my server is marked as full, but feels really empty even at peak time”).
Thanks for the feedbacks so far! I’m glad most of you are liking this change.

Apparently the “try at odd times” strategy doesnt work any more. Since they made it wvw playing based, the metrics look at longer term population shifts and that means there are no longer the little gaps where someone could sneak in.
ANet may give it to you.
Sounds like your best bet is going to be to join another server, and keep gems handy for a quick server transfer in the future. At least with megaserver you can join your friends for PvE until you can finally get into their server for WvW.

I think the refresh button is still a great idea for transferring to all worlds. People have told me they moved to full servers when they heard on the grapevine a large guild was moving by contacting them and finding when(was a Oceanic guild in her case), may have been b4 changes tho.
