Server Chat System
the server wide chat should be limited to wvw only. and should have a timer on it so random people dont spam random stuff on it…
What i mean is a person in EB can send a message across all EB via Team chat, and another message across all EB+Home world map +2 other enemy maps in another “wvw” chat.
Other wise your “hey gandara server, lets all go on black gate wvw map and attack them” message can be read by everyone on the megaserver in the pvE world… which defeats the purpose…
Actually, in PvE, even though players from all servers are together, the characters are still tagged for their proper server. It’d be pretty easy to have it apply to PvE as well, even though 98% of the time, it’d be used by WvW people.
Basically, if you were a Tarnished Coast player, you would only receive chatter from the TC Server chat, regardless where you were at (whether it’s guesting in another server, etc). But you would not receive any other server (like Yak’s Bend, Jade Quarry, Black Gate, etc.)
I have an idea for server chats:
Team Chat
This chat would be the main World vs. World (vs. World) Team Chat. It would function for the specified server among all 4 maps. So if a player from Eternal Battlegrounds needs help from a Borderland, the players from the borderland would be able to see it. At the moment, the top servers seem to remedy this by having external chat programs, but not everybody is able to/can use it.
Server Chat
This chat can be used by all players from their specified server regardless of where they may be. Whether its in the Heart of the Mists, Rata Sum, Eternal Battlegrounds, or in a Dungeon. Judging on previous game experiences and such features, this chat would need a high cooldown to prevent players who often spam Map Chats with their Guild Recruitment messages. My suggestion would be to have a 600 second spam-prevention timer (a player would only be allowed to send one server message per 10 minutes). This way, the chat would still be used sparingly, but (hopefully) properly. It would be used for mostly recruitment, but hopefully with moderation.
Just my 2 copper for suggestion.
Shouldn’t even need something like server chat, which is too specifically WvW-oriented.
Better would be the option to see and send chat from all 5 guilds you’re in. Do you want WvW updates so you can join at a moment’s notice when you are truly needed? Join a WvW guild. Do you want updates on world bosses? Join a guild for that. Are you looking for that elusive T5/T6 Dry Top? Join a guild for that.
See FFXIV for a model of how that sort of system works in practice.

I would if I didn’t have to pay a sub fee to play FFXIV…
And that’d be a bit iffy because how would you send a guild message to one message without sending it to the others?
/g1 /g2 /g3 /g4 /g5?
And some guilds have so many people, it’d be somewhat annoying to know who said what from what guild. Not bashing your idea, just trying to get more info from your thoughts and wondering how it’d work.
Well, for starters you can make additional chat boxes if that was really needed.
FFXIV had /FC (their version of “guild”) and then L1/L2/L3/…/L8
I imagine in this game /G could default to the guild you current represent, and G1/G2/G3/G4/G5 would be your guilds in a fixed order.
I also don’t think chat flooding would be a problem, since everyone would be getting messages from 5 guilds, and people as a whole would generally slow down a bit as a result. If it was really bad you could go to different chat boxes like I said, or just leave G1/G2/G3/G4/G5 unchecked on the filter so only active G chat appears.
For the truly skeptical, you could introduce its implementation as an opt-in system rather than opt-out, so you would have to enable seeing chat from other guilds, rather than disable it.

People can be in the same guild while playing on opposing servers. Not sure that Guild chat of any sort can fill the desired purpose.

Player A and player B are in Guild ABC (“G1” for now).
Player A and player C are in Guild XYZ (“G2” for now).
Player A and player B are on the same server (G1 is a WvW guild). Player C is on an enemy server (G2 is a world boss train guild).
Player B sees the garrison being attacked by 50 strong. Sends a message to /G1.
Player A sees the message. Immediately goes to help, as well as relay the message on to his other WvW guild.
Player C does not see the message because he is not in G1.
