Hi there, am about to pick my first server and im slightly confused, is this going to be the location of “all” of my characters or can you have characters on different servers?

It just I have a friend whos also just bought the game and I don’t want us to end up on different servers.

All your characters will be created on the same server. Good thing is you can guest to any server except for playing WvW. If the two of you want to experience WvW together, you will have to figure out which server to choose together.

• Your server choice is mostly for WvW.
• It can later be changed if you pay gems or delete all characters.
• All characters must exist on the same server for each game purchase.
• You can guest to other servers for PvE content.
• Soon megaserver technology will be added and guesting will not be needed.

Yeah, your account will bound to that server, so all your toons will be on that server.

Ah right, so if you delete all your characters you can change server, your sure of that?

Yes, very sure. But….there is a seven-day cooldown between server transfers.

The server choice is per account. It mainly affects World vs World. At the moment you can guest to 2 other servers and have those unlocked for the day. So as long as it’s the same region you should be fine. There is a change coming on 15th April that’ll get rid of specific servers in PvE.

Eitherway, i’d suggest co-ordinating with your friend about what server to choose purely so you can group up with them in World vs World.

*Important,

if you are running a personal guild for the stash, make sure you take everything out of the stash and put in into an alts inventory. Your new world will not feature any guild upgrades and your stash with all its items will remain in the old world. The only option to access it ever again is to transfer back, guesting is pointless.

Servers will not become obsolete on April 15th. Just a few low-population maps will take advantage of the MegaServer. No one knows yet how long it will take for the MegaServer implementation to affect a majority of the maps. It will, however, be active in the PvP Lobby on the 15th.

Also be aware that since we are currently in a WvW tournament that if you transfer now you will be locked out of WvW for 1-2 weeks.
