My friends are all on Jade Quarry.
I tried to make a character on Jade Quarry.
It says the server is full, and will not let me make a character.
Surely this is not working as intended. Do I have to wait until there are less people logged in before I can MAKE a character?

That would be the point of the phrase “Server Full”

I’m not sure about the queues actually, I haven’t tried a char on a full server.

This is correct. It’s a very strange system. You can’t join a server while there are so many people logged onto it, but if you’ve already joined, you can always log onto it.

Server full doesn’t mean there are too many people online, it means there are too many people signed up to that server, both on and offline. You have to wait for someone to transfer out or Anet to add more capacity before you can join.

(Once you’re on a server if a particular zone is full you’ll get transfered to an overflow where you can continue playing as normal while you wait for space to free up on your server, but as far as I know there is no equivilent system for joining a server, there has to be space available for you to join.)

Not necessarily. Admittedly I stopped looking at how often space is freed up on servers a few weeks ago when I found one I was happy to stay on, but at that time it was usually possible to get onto the server you wanted relatively quickly if you just kept checking every so often.

Yeah with the free transfers, you can bet people are jumping off pretty regular. I actually transferred from a Medium to a High server.

Not tried this either though, transferring to a Full server, might work….?

I don’t think you can transfer to a full server (although I haven’t tried) but if someone else transfers off of it then it will be downgraded to ‘high’ and you can take their spot.

I don’t believe it works this way, even though that way makes more sense.

I’ve told several people trying to join my server (Gate of Madness) to try joining before noon on a weekday (during off hours). All of them have been able to join successfully.

You can’t transfer to or create brand new characters on a Full server. You’d have to wait until it opens up a bit. I know my guildies had that issue during the three-day head start back in August. Eventually, we all made it on Jade Quarry and our guild started to stabilize itself.

However, considering that Jade Quarry is currently the #1 NA WvW server at this time, getting on it might require a bit more patience than usual; especially when it comes to competing for space with the “bandwagoners” (you’ll hear that term a lot in WvW forum). If you really want to try to get on Jade Quarry instead of convincing your friends to transfer to another server, try creating your character during off-peak hours, like overnight or during the early morning.

I moved from Yak’s Bend to Fort Aspenwood…I just waited until the WvW servers switched up and there was some room available due to people wanting to go to the better servers and what not for the next match.

Didn’t used to be the case, but yep. That’s how it is now.

The best part is this system prevents you from ever meeting up with your friends even in PvE. Isn’t it just grand?

Rhadgast.8145, if you are still checking this thread all you need to do to transfer (or start a new character) on a ‘full’ server is wait until the server population is at high.

For most NA servers this happens during the early morning all the way up to early evening. Some servers are busier than others but you can definitely transfer or create on them if you are willing to do so during a quiet time.

The ‘full’ population rating only counts the number of people online and not the number of accounts on that server.

The server I am on, Tarnished Coast, is the unofficial roleplaying server. There is a website that maintains a thread about the server’s population so people know when to transfer to it or create a character.

You can definitely join up with your friends to play unless Jade Quarry is ‘full’ 24/7.

Thanks for the insight, everyone. I guess I’ll keep trying. I asked them if they’d move off JQ, but apparently JQ is the best or something.

Make your character on another server, and at 3am do your transfer. Welcome to JQ!

That doesn’t work anymore ostracize. I just tried it this morning at that time and still full.

Same with all the other full servers too.
