I bought GW2 to play with a friend, but he is on the Blackgate server which is constantly full… he already has a max level character with non-tradable items so the only way we could play together is if he bought a server switch, or the server opens. So how long am I expected to wait until I can get into the server? I’ve logged out and logged back in at least 50 times.

Blackgate is one of the highest population realms because it is mainly a WvWvW server.

You both don’t have to be on the same realm to play together, all of the servers are combined with a megaserver technology. If you two are in a group, you’ll generally end up in the same map together and if not you have an option to join his map.

Try logging in during non-peak hours. Try like 3am-4am or somethingIt may be pain, but unless you want to do WvW with your friend, it doesn’t really matter with the megaserver.

Being on the same server does not matter unless you’re talking about joining him for WvW. Otherwise you’ll just need to keep checking in every so often and wait for the server to not be full.

Wow. My friend didn’t inform me of that. So I wasted this entire day trying to log in for nothing. Although my work requires me to get up around 3 AM, so I’ll try to get in then. If I still can’t then I’ll just choose a different server. Thanks.

If you’re planning to join the same guild as him, you really do want to be on the same server. It’s even more important if you want to do WvW with him.

You don’t need to be on the same server to play together. With the megaservers, you can play everything except wvw together.

What does this even mean?

Blackgate is tough to get into because of its status as a T1 wvw server and capability at world bosses and events.

Your best bet is to try during sea, eu, or ocx hours.
