Q:
Server traffic???? Are we failing or thriving. who knows?
The server select on the character screen will tell you low vs med vs high vs full.
I think that’s all you will be able to find.
:edit:
And ignore the doomsday threads, this is 100% normal for MMO forums.
Some people claim the game is dieing, others claim it will die immediately unless a proposed change is made, etc.

in the list of developers I have the least faith & trust in.
Congratulations ArenaNet!
The game will not fail. They already sold way more copies of the game than they had even set as a goal for themselves. Plus they are releasing their first major content update on the 22nd (just a few days away). Considering GW1 ran for 7 years, I’m sure this game will be running for at least that long.
Heretic, the thing with GW2 is…. the world is massive. It is, by far, one of the biggest worlds I’ve seen in an MMO thus far. The game isn’t dying (as far as I can tell), and the game is definitely thriving.
The world is so big that people are spread out throughout the world in TONS of different zones. You won’t be running into 25+ people all in one area (unless it’s a big event), because people are everywhere. It’s all spread out, and this is good in my opinion.
The servers are mostly High and Full, that is not the sign of a failing game. Besides, just wait, once the 22nd comes by, the servers will be packed once again with people doing ALL of those holiday events and stuff.
I sure hope you are right. I have trouble seeing it die. I have given up sleep since I met it. Surely I can’t be the only person loving it. Sure I would have some tweaks and changes if I had my way but nothing is perfect.
Servers are at high to full during mid-day in NA regions with Kaineng as the lone medium server. At night aka Primetime, the worlds are all high to full with about 50% at full.
Yes. Looking forward to the 22nd myself.
Well, the population of the world I joined a couple of weeks ago (Whiteside Ridge) was at ‘medium’, and now it’s at ‘high’. I presume this means the total number of players who have joined that world, not the number playing at any particular time.
I’m really enjoying the game (I’ve played little else since installing it) and am looking forward to next week’s Halloween update :-)
The game will not fail.
No, but for the sole reason that it hasn’t been designed to need subs to keep going. If it had been a sub game it would be entering SWTOR territory about now.
I presume this means the total number of players who have joined that world, not the number playing at any particular time.
No, it’s the people playing at that time. Check back at 2/3 in the morning and it will be on medium most likely.
If this game was designed to be a subscription based game, the entire game would be entirely different, Eridani. The thing with GW2 is that, they want new players to join the game a lot. They want to make the game grow. That’s why they try to focus on getting new people in. It’s not the subscription that matters, it’s the amount of people that buy the game. This game has a LOT of potential to keep growing through new people.
Now, a subscription based game, the difference is… they want to retain players as much as possible, and keep them hooked into coming back repeatedly, in other words, they want to shove that carrot on a stick down your throat; hence why just about every subscription based game out there is a WoW clone. They don’t try to bring in new people as much as keep the people currently playing, well, paying and playing.
So yes, if it was a subscription based game, right now, it wouldn’t be doing as good because there isn’t that gear treadmill and that carrot on a stick that’s MANDATORY to have fun. I like where this game is going right now, because there’s already going to be a content patch (the 22nd), and there’s so much for this world to grow with in terms of content—without the need for a subscription fee.

Haha, its normal because 99% of them ARE doomed.
The server select on the character screen will tell you low vs med vs high vs full.
I was always under the impression that this column on the server list represented the amount of people who had that server as their home server, not how many people were actively playing.
Taking a guild for an example:
A guild has 500 members, which is the maximum.
25 guild members come online in the course of a day (5%).
This guild is still “full”, even though the majority of users did not come online.
This is how I assumed the server population worked as well.
We have no way of knowing how many players are actually active!
I personally haven’t seen many people around lately, but I have been in the starter areas, so I am guessing most people have moved on.
I dunno what it matters.
GW2 was the 5th highest selling video game last month. Some 2 million sold already. That’s enough to show commercial success.
There’s game-affecting bugs in pvp, wvw, personal story, party & guild, … That’s enough to be alarmed about the potential longevity.
They got a load of money. Let’s see if they can get the game running right. It’s sub free, so no barrier to people coming back.
