Sorry if there is a thread, i had a quick look but couldnt find anything.

The no set Tank or Healer setup works great and is a load of fun OUTSIDE of dungeons where you can have 5+ players attacking enemies and the aggro and heals is shared loads ….., but in the dungeons where its a set 5 players … no no no

Ive only done two dungeons 3 times and i find them very very tedious because of the no set Tank or Healer (or traits that could make them).

Dungeons arent fun as the setup is at the moment.

Its wipe after wipe and its not to do with noone trying their best or not kitted enough.

Its wipe after wipe and its not to do with noone trying their best or not kitted enough.

its precisely because of that. either you’re not geared enough, or you’re bad. either because you haven’t figured out the mechanics of a fight, or simply bad at playing your class.

Or perhaps you need to make more effort with your party to determine what weapons and traits you should collectively take and to actually make an effort to strategize before a fight since the roles are not fixed and laid out for you.

Keep at it. Dungeons are very different from dungeons in other games, and I’m afraid the open world pve is too easy to have taught players how to manage challenging mobs.

Once you learn it, you’ll see you can be successful without a designated tank or healer.

The key isn’t to be able to take the hits and heal thru them, but to use blind, aegis, block, dodge, etc, and most of all positioning.

Toughness and vitality traits are, in fact, the tanky stats you’re referring too. A better question is, how many people spec full toughness/vitality or support, versus the number of people going full power/precision and take hits like wet noodles.

So your saying if it is multiple wipes all 5 of the party must be rubbish ?
In CM dungeon just now there was a level 80, me at 59 (masterwork gear 59) and the other 3 above 40, yet we were getting hammered.

Even IF we were total rubbish (and we werent, we gave it all) your telling me that a level 40 dungeon should be a wipeathon EVEN with the downscaleing for our levels with extra abilities, i dont buy it

Phy, so what your saying that players who are making up parties should be asking for certain trait levels for the party rather than just any member ?

Thats the only way i can see to get the “solid” party needed.

Do you really expect 5 pure dps players to do any good?

Maybe we could help more if we knew your profession.

It sounds like you’re doing CM-story. There are some really tough fights in that now, and some tricky mobs that have to be handled strategically.

Not saying it should be a wipeathon, just that it is a beatable dungeon by normal players with typical gear. It’s not that you’re not good players, but that you’re trying a difficult task without a lot of experience at it yet.

Phy has answered the dilemma really , its no good then just to join a “shout” for players for a party in a general map chat, unless you know what the other players joining are.

Cheers

I was under the impression of the game that everyone has a similar amount of dps and healing skill which up to going in a dungeon seems to work.

The problem is the people who need to take the time to learn it may not want to spend so much time. They may not even have that much time and just want to play with friends and family to relax and have some fun.

It would be nice if there were modes that we suited for players such as this and players who do want a challenge where their skills are necessary to complete encounters.

As it is, there are too many people losing interest and not playing as much because they feel they are missing out on a part of the game that should be rewarding and fun and isn’t.

It’s all well and good to say l2p and other things that you think make you sound like you know what you’re doing and in the end it doesn’t help players who want their voices heard on a subject that affects a large group of the player base. Like it or not, everyone is not going to be, nor wants to be leet.

I’ll say this, party makeup and player skill has a larger role in this game than your typical MMO. I’ve been in groups where I go down early in any fight, I’m a dagger/dagger ele. I understand I need to work on my survivability, but for the most part I do alright. Now the other day, I played in a group with a staff ele and 2 guardians. We had a mesmer for 2 of the paths and part of 1 path, but we 4 manned the end of path 3. This was in Sorrow’s Embrace. The dungeon was easy with that group. In fact, we accidently pulled trash packs on a boss fight and didn’t have any trouble handling both. It was a whole different world from playing with people who barely understand their synergies.

So sorry to say it, but it does sound like your group didn’t focus on maximising synergy. Combo fields, combo finishers, carefully used support moves. These are things that win dungeons.

My engi is about lvl 20 is all, so I can’t be specific help on that, sorry.

Engi can be great support, I know.

On the way in to the dungeon, everyone can select useful utilities and traits. I like to have at least one that does a revive. You’ll want condition removal for some of the fights. You can also reselect your trait selections (not the points, but the roman-numeral parts) to be party friendly.

Work out amongst your team how you can avoid damage. For example on my guardian, I have blind and block up a lot of the time, and share protection. If someone else can manage a few more blinds, interrupts, and the like, you can all be a little less jumpy on the dodge-rolls.

Use combos as much as you can. Some of them are awesome. All of them are handy.

Hope this helps a bit.

You truly can go to a dungeon with any combination of the professions. The fastest CM I ever did was 3 eles, a thief and a ranger, not all 80s. No one died, either.

Somewhat you have to adjust for each fight. But IME the trash in CM is at least as dangerous as the bosses. The first fight with the golem, I can not do well in melee, because my character relies on blind and block, but you can’t blind/block AOEs. 2nd fight is the same thing, his sword flurry is 360 aoe. The rest of the fights, I can melee.

Suggest read the mob’s and decide if it’s kiting time, evading time, or what. One of the mobs says “does more damage to moving targets”. that should be a hint. The packs of dogs apply a bunch of conditions. Please remove them!

As with dungeons in any game, you’re best if you control the pull, rather than having adds jump on you.

And most of all, come at it knowing it is winnable, and you only need to solve it.

I didnt know roman numeral bits were alterable without a full retrait.

Ahhh so the pack of hounds fear in there CAN be removed, ok we were at fault then.

The 3 dungeons ive done ive just joined up and everyone says hi then one mass attack as we progress (havent done it like that in other games) and it seems this is no different, although from the outside dungeon fights i thought that it was the same style in a dungeon for this game.

We just recently 4 man’d the level 50 (and we were all right around level 50) storymode dungeon. Only had 3 or 4 deaths during the whole thing. (mostly at the end fight)

We had a thief, a hunter, an elementalist, and an engineer. Between the thief and engineer, the mobs were just about perma-blind.

Hey look, no tank at all.

“The 3 dungeons ive done ive just joined up and everyone says hi then one mass attack as we progress”

It will get that way once you’ve all learned your approach.

I just thought of another bit – there’s potions of outlaw slaying that’ll help turn the odds in your favor (you do more damage, take less damage, and +10 xp per kill). I think most people eat magic-find food, but consumables can help.

Personally, I’m still far from expert, but got over a hump to where I find them very fun. I still often find myself after a fight thinking “oh yeah, we shoulda done X or used Y”

Cheers all, i learnt a lot and i wanted to , i thought from when i started playing this game needs a tank and healer but its all more of using available traits and stuff , rather than having a set player holding the aggro and one mass healing. (as in some other mmos)

I never really had any problem with Tanks or Healers in Dungeons. I play a Staff Ele, more focused at Offense. A few times our team had no real Tanks (2 Eles, 1 Thief, 1 Ranger, and 1 Eng I think) but we still got through just fine. I actually found it was harder when we had too many tanks (3 Warriors, 1 Ele, and 1 Thief I think), although it was more because the path we did required us to kill mounds quickly and warrior didn’t seem very suited for that. Still, we made it.

I do use my fields to help combo and heal my allies when I can. But most of the time they don’t need my healing or help. And being squishy, I know when I need to slip back and heal. If anyone messes up, most teams are usually quick to revive from downed (although if you die, best to run back 90% of the time). I’ve cleared all explorable paths in CoF, HotW, and AC and my team never really needed to discuss roles. Although once or twice I did see people shouting for a Ranged Class in melee heavy teams.

So yah, it is really more about how well each team member player and how well they play their profession than preset builds. I mean I was last one left alive in CoF Path 3 at the part where waves of Flame Legion attack the capture point. Me, an ele with a 20/20/10/10/10 trait build and a Berserker/Solider Armor mix with Emerald Jewelry. I am far from a tank yet I managed to keep them busy and keep myself alive until my team ran back. Funny thing is I always sucked at kiting until that moment XD

I’ve only done AC(S, 1, 2, 3) and CM(S, 1, 3) and I think dungeons are fine.

I’m only responsible for what I say, not for what you understand.

I’ve had many smooth dungeon runs with many set ups. 5 DPS can be fantastic if people know what they’re doing.

This just sounds like a user issue, not a game one.

Dungeons are fine, they are tactical, if you are struggling then try different traits, different stats on your gear, try read the situation better during combat to know when the best time to dodge is, when to save your heals and condition removals for, when to group up with your party and when to keep spread out.

This isn’t a pure tank’n’spank game as many people try to claim, you have to think about what you are doing, what you are going up against and prepare accordingly.

not needed, you can clear a dungeon with 5 of any class the game has to offer.

granted ele’s are squish bags and some other classes aren’t great either….that’s anet balance for you.

were doing away with the holy trinity…but were not making all classes equal….kinda defeats the purpose.
