So, the character select screen. You can choose from eight different job classes when making a new toon, but despite all the room at the bottom of said screen where the character portrait strip is (and on the sides), it only displays seven at a time. Eight jobs (soon to be nine), seven portraits viewable at a time.

Seriously, why? I’ve never seen an MMO character screen that’s done something like that before, everybody’s been readily listed & available in one place in all others that I’ve played, sometimes with an even larger number of alts. And I mean, like I said, there’s loads of open room on that character select screen, they’re not exactly hurting for space.

I know it’s a minor thing, but having that asymmetrical scrolling arrow for just the_ one_ character is reallllyyyyy making me OCD to all heck, seven is such a strange number to go with on top of that. Is there any possibility of adjusting that grid layout slightly? Please? Pretty please?

I’ve seen it in another game: Guild Wars (One)

Also, some people have more than 8 character slots filled (such as I). What would make it balanced? If it increases to 8, what about those that have 11 slots filled? 23 slots filled? 55 slots filled?

Maybe 7 is the lucky number! ; )

Well it’s going to be 9 professions soon enough. But I do agree that the char selection screen needs some rework. Having 20 characters makes it annoying to try to find that one specific character because I need x crafting or y thing from there. Would be neat if I could see which crafting professions I have on each char and be able to scroll trough them with the mousewheel instead of pressing the arrows on the sides.

Yeah I’ve always thought 7 was an odd limit. Either change it to 8 or give us more customisability options (ideally, including the option to make the account medals show by default and also show weapons and backpieces).

Yeah, I do realize that after a certain point it’s ludicrous. It’s just that seven in particular is a strange number to cap it at, especially when compared to the list of classes which is just 1-2 over that. Matching it to that list at least just seems like it would be the most logical and reasonable course of action, y’know?

It’s probably based on the smallest reasonable screen resolution Anet believes the game would be played on, where any additional “icons” would be offscreen by some amount.
