Shadow of the Mad King and the 4 Acts
Question about the Acts and the dates.
If we miss the date range between some acts will we be able to still do them at a later date?
I’m going out of town on the 25th and wont return till the around the 30th. So does that mean I will miss acts 2 and possibly 3 completely, or will I still be able to do the act 2 and 3 content say on the 31st after act 4 is online?
I think that they’re progressive, LIVE, one-time things. So, as to say that when they happen and you miss them, you’re kind of out of luck. I know, that sucks and all. But that is the effect of an ever changing online MMORPG. The dev’s even said before that they’d make single-occurance events that won’t happen again; I think these are a test of that.
Are the acts even date-related?
Could be a story mode with 4 acts that can be done whenever you want.
Hawk’s idea is pretty plausible. That is how they did the event quests in GW1. I don’t see them sticking it to people with real life responsibilities by having events only happen at a certain time. Even if they are all like the dragon fights, unless you can do it multiple times for rewards most will just do it the first time and the stragglers will be left hardly any allies.
Forget it, they updated the Halloween page, it’s indeed a date range per Act.
OP must’ve seen it
The thing that bothers me is I work all those days, so I’ll most likely miss them if they aren’t happening when I’m on.
One shot events are a cool concept but I feel like too many players would get screwed out of it.
They tried single-occurance events with the first World Event in Rift. It quickly turned out that this caused a lot of disappointment because the number of people at the event overfilled the servers (people couldn’t log in to see it) and those who were unable to even try to log in that weekend missed the event entirely. And their first attempt crashed the servers and they had to postpone the event for a week, meaning that people who took the day off from work or postponed personal errands had to do the same thing a second week in a row or miss the event.
In a world-wide MMO, it will always be the middle of the day/night for someone so scheduling a one-time event is going to exclude some people just because of this. And even spreading it out over a day or a weekend will exclude some people who already have obligations for that period of time. Of course it’s understood that some things will be of a time-sensitive nature, but events should take place over as long a period as is appropriate and possible.
The event will probably be on until the next act starts or at least for the whole of that day.
Could still be a personal story type deal, simply with gradual unlocks. That’s how the 2009 (i believe it was that year) Halloween was done in GW1. New quest every day with old ones still available if you hadn’t done it yet
Yaks Bend
That would make the most sense, Dar Keln. Of course, if the events take place in the world rather than instanced, obviously that wouldn’t work. I hope that the Acts just unlock new events, while the old ones continue to run.
I also wish that the event was 2 weeks long :P
Something to keep in mind about GW1 events, they were rarely “If you aren’t on at 8:29 on Wednesday, you miss it”. The Christmas events were on a loop, Halloween I believe were quest based, etc.
Most likely the quest will be released on the dates but the whole chain will probably be open during the entire holiday.
@tolunart
You can’t please everyone all the time. Disappointment or not for some people, these events will happen set up however Arena.Net set them up to be (and it looks like they only last a day or two each).
From the way the Acts are scheduled, it looks as if each Act can be done by players (repeatedly) over the 2-4 day period before the following Act. However, ju7st as a storybook, one act must close so that another opens.
Heck, I know Arena.Net has said multiple times that people should definitely want to log-in on the 28th mid-day and “not miss the one-time, special event” that will happen there.
P.S. I was there for the event that you’re talking about. The Rift opening of the fight against the chick sidekick for Regulos. This was far more hectic being on a PvP server. It does suck that hundreds to thousands missed it, but also thousands experienced it too.
They have dates listed so it looks like each Act will be available for a few days at a time so I think there should be plenty of time for people to log in and experience it.
Also with concept art like this, I can not wait to see what the world will look like! So cool!
