Shame almost every major town is so dead...
Rata Sum got busy because of the Super adventure box, but I agree about the rest of them…except LA of course.
this game need like 100 million players to fiill every city, every zone and every …. map is too large.
Perhaps…‘when it’s ready/soon’…the mini-games will bring people into all the cities, except maybe Ebonhawke, which is a bit different from all the others as it is combat-viable.
Play on Tarnished Coast. The cities are RPer paradise, and are packed constantly. Except Ebonhawke, which doesn’t see as much RP due to the risk of Events spawning in the middle of your RP scene.
I remember ArenaNet saying that they wanted Lion’s Arch to be ‘the hub’ for people to be in.
But I’m sure they will add a lot of more things in the future to the major cities, making people go there as well.
You know what’s a bigger shame? All those resources, hundreds of hours of development.

I completely agree. Hopefully after the game is more balanced and what not they’ll finally start realizing how much wasted space there is :/ And not that I RP, but I don’t think I’d mind watching some of these events in tarnished coast
I hate Lion’s Arch, it takes too much time to load and it’s overcrowded.
I’d love to have some kind of personal free teleport option to one of my favorite major city or just be able to change the Lion’s Arch portals destinations.

Agreed. I love it on TC for this reason. Going into DR and you’re pretty much bombarded with people talking… Even Hoelbrak is pretty busy with RPers!
That said, I really hope they introduce city minigames.
I have been hosting small events just outside cities, perhaps I’ll work more on doing them in town. I think others could do this too, it was just simpler to go to queensdale or maw area, but I see your point.

Implementation of at least one mini-game per city and inclusion of mini-games as a permanent rotation on daily achievements would assuredly increase traffic.
I think the only thing that will get more traffic to other towns are the addition of Mini-Games, a full Portal Hub (no one likes load screens) and possibly the addition of a multiple city chat option. But don’t any of that happening for years unfortunately. Even with those options LA is still kind of central for the most part and cuts down on WP costs over time.
The Exodar was a beautiful ship, and it was pretty kitten dead too. Players will always gravitate to the center of the action. If it wasn’t Lion’s Arch, it’d probably be Divinity’s Reach due to the plurality of humans.

I would go to the other towns if key vendors were closer together and major town chats were linked
I think LA is just so crowded because you can warp to it easily using the mists. If other cities had easy access buttons, I’d be spending most of my time in Divinity’s Reach. But I opt for the free and fairly fast warp to LA instead.
I happened to be in Hoelbrak the other day, heard the coolest piece of dialogue I think I’ve ever heard in a video game, and I realizd how much I (and most of the playerbase) was missing because of LA. They really need to do something to spread people out through all the cities.
These cities are just not as convenient as Lion’s arch…
The reason why most of the cities other than lion’s arch are underpopulated is because there simply isn’t much anything to do once you’ve explored it and in max level. I really hope the devs would eventually add something interesting to the major cities especially divinity’s reach. The scenery in DR is simply breathtaking and I hate to see it go to waste.

For years I’ve thought this whole move to insanely big maps was bad for the feeling of community and immersion in games. Glad to see someone else has noticed this as well… What’s the point in building worlds with more virtual square footage than the real planet Earth? 90% of the world is completely empty at any given time in most of the newer MMO’s I’ve played (i.e., the last 8-10 years essentially).
Their problem was making lion’s arch a friendly city and central hub for all gate travel. They should drop a meteor on the place (or better yet, let us kill every single one of those criminal pirate scum, lion guard and consortium included) and raze/flatten it to the ground. An elder dragon attack would suffice.
Then all the other cities can get the multiple gates so that you can travel to any of them from any other and porting out of WvW takes you to your racial city. That’s when the rest of the towns will come back to life.
More people should go to Divinity’s Reach, the bank and trading post are right next to each other, plus the crafting places are right below you and waypointing is quicker since it’s all in the one spot. Only thing missing really is dungeon and guild vendors. But people will ignore this since if they afk in Divinity’s Reach there’s less people to see their cool stuff.
I dont “feel” that cities are empty, NPCs do a pretty good job filling it up, with all the chatter and whatnot, also there is allways people going arround, maybe not as crowded as LA, but still got some.
Fine by me. Divinity’s Reach is pretty along with lacking a bunch of complaining about the gem store pick and mystic forge in map chat, unlike LA.

Also this.
The guild missions and other content (like Super fun adventure box) are doing this on occasion. To give an example, Timberline falls is a place I go to frequently to farm engraved totems because they were selling so well. Now there is a large guild mission right where I farm them (in a cave near it) and Im regularly running into huge guild groups with 400-500 players fighting/defending there. Seems this might have affected my farm also as the totems have dropped almost 2 silver a piece

Yes I totally agree. I don’t go to LA unless it’s for the JP or FOTM. I’ve made Rata Sum my main city hub for my crafting/TP/banking purposes. And there are never any trolls on the Rata Sum map chat.
Now the comparison will be hated but WoW (the most popular MMO, still) has every city except the current main one of the expansion completely empty, its just how it is.

This^^^
There is always an overflow in Divinities Reach and LA.
