You can buy the infinite tools and then put them in the shared slots.
Too lazy to do that

It’s easy to say give us shared tools, but how would it work? They have to be put in the harvesting tool slots first so they can’t just be “shared harvesting tools for X gems each”.
How would it work exactly? Would you get a free copy of each tool you buy for every char you make all the way up to the max number of chars? Because I don’t see this happening.

Basically sums up why Anet shouldn’t pander to people like you.

PvE players: “Waa Waa Anet. We PvE players shouldnt have to do WvW for our World Map completion, Waa Waa, it’s too hard!”
Anet: “OK”
Yeah, not to players like me, but players like them.

To be honest tho it is one way that Anet makes money from us – convenience items. Would you rather that they had Pay 2 Win elements instead?

It was never hard, I had to do the WvW map completes on 9 out of my 11 chars so far that have World complete. It was a bit of RNG (or luck for better words) and waiting tho which is why people complained and rightly so.
And again, i STRONGLY disagree with this request, as it would waste alot of gems i’ve spent. Yes, i know its expensive but its worth it to buy a set for each alt. After seeing what the feedback was on shared inventory slots, i hope they never create a “shared harvesting slot”.

Tbh if they did add such an item/service as this it would make little difference to what you have already purchased. Yes I know you wouldn’t have needed to in the long run but that’s a totally separate issue that I would agree with as I was burnt on a second copper salvage in this way when the shared inv slots came out.
However what it would mean for OTHER players is that THEY would not have to spend so much for the convenience and hey I would be happy for them. And yes I too have purchased various unlimited tools, about 3 sets so far I think and an extra clockwork pick (2 total).
Even so, with 3 dedicated unlimited tool sets I would welcome such an idea as this as I have a total of 11 chars and do not plan on buying anymore unlimited tools in the near future (boycotting over the copper fed issue :P). Don’t even mention using them via the shared inv slots as that is just not worth bothering with. I have 9 alts parked out at the flax farm, having to unequip – place in shared inv slot – remove from shared inv slot – equip to char and then repeat that whole process is just far too clunky to do for 9 chars…..
It’s a lot more easier and less of a headache to simply go to my guild instance and buy 5 new tools and then return to where I was. Of course such an idea as the OP has suggested would simply mean I would not need to do that anymore and hey Anet would earn some new sales from people buying those shared tool slots.

Any new maps added to the World have never been required for World Completion. WvW maps were removed as a requirement for World Completion when the new WvW maps were released. Thus, it may be a technical limitation, rather than ‘Waa Waa’.
It might be that it’s not actually possible to implement this. Currently there are no items which are shared across characters in this way, so it’s not like it’s a simple case of copying what they did elsewhere.
I’m sure Anet are aware (because it comes up every couple of months at least) that there is a demand for this and that players are willing to pay gems for it. (At least until it comes out, at which point it will become an ‘essential quality of life fix’ which should have been in the game at launch and it will be ‘a slap in the face’ to all their players, but especially ‘veterans’, to expect us to pay for it.)
But instead of giving it to us they’ve first made the tools themselves account bound so we can transfer them and then released shared inventory slots (which are not exclusive to this since people wanted them for many other items). That suggests to me that making it possible to equip 1 item on all your characters at the same time is either impossible or not worth the time and effort it would take.

Actually they removed WvW from map completion for 2 reasons: firstly (and mainly) because they were planning on adding different WvW maps and cycling between them. They couldn’t really make partial completion carry over from one map to a different one but it would be very unfair if someone had been working towards it, almost finished and then the maps changed over and they had to wait 6 months for it to change back.
And secondly because WvW players were regularly annoyed with PvE players taking up slots in full maps but not contributing to the match because they were running around doing map completion.
WvW is still required for legendaries (which is the main reason people did map completion) in the form of the Gift of Battle (now from a reward track) and the Memory of Battle required to craft precursors.

You equip them on character of your choice, call it character A.
Character B doesnt have any tools.
You open Hero panel on character B, and see shared tools from character A. Their icon is faded a little and there is a small icon in the corner. You are free to use them even though character B doesn’t have them equipped yet.
You can also decide to equip different tools on character B, if you wish for any reason (mostly fashion reasons?).
Also this would be much better if it works as a shared slot, not a shared tool.
You could use any infinite tools then (skins).
Cons for Anet are that there isn’t anything new sold, though a QoL change like this has the potential to bump up sales of these tools by huuge amounts.
Only they have numbers on how many active accounts own these, though I personally will never buy any of these tools without sharing options.
Would this be a programming nightmare?
We will never know!
But it might be something that would bump the infinite tools.

Yes. Account bound harvesting tool slots is a much better suggestion than shared harvesting tools with an unspecified means of action. It’s something that been suggested before.
Of course that means that people who’ve bought multiple sets for themed animations on different characters are again left out of this convenience.

IMO people who bought several sets are the main reason why we didn’t have this yet.
You can’t just screw your customers over like that. I know it has been done in the past (for good of all of us) but this would be probably change with the biggest impact on past gemstore purchases.
If they figured it out already, resources are probably reason two, but the only real problem is point 1.
They would need to do a lot of refunds, which doesn’t only mean lost money but hell a lot of human hours going through all those tickets.
If they would refuse to refund them, even owning the tools for a year or two wouldn’t justify such decision as based on pricing, they are a very long-term investment.

Your making it way harder then it is bud, if you have some copper tools on all alts and in 3 of the three shared slots.
click once on each cooper tool in shard slot pick/sickle/axe switch char click once on your permanent tools in the shared slots on the alt.
I have 24 characters and what I’ve done is buy them each one set of Orichalcum tools, and equip them. My unlimited ones are in the shared inventory slots, and all I have to do is double click each one when I log onto my character, and when I’m about to log off, double click again to re-equip the Orichalcum ones. It was a bit awkward at first, but now I’m in the habit of doing it, it second nature now to do this when switching characters.
On the ‘Waa Waa’ bit – there are people from all aspects of the game that ‘Waa Waa’ from time to time. Not just what you label as ‘PvE players’ – the only label we should all have is ‘GW2 Players’ instead of dividing each other. But I guess that’s a different topic altogether.

Exactly…I do this same thing.
Would I like the tools to be shared so I could have 3 more shared inv slots available to carry all these darn keys/acids/crowbars/etc? Sure. (Or they could add me a “Key Ring” type of thing like they store our currencies only make it “key-like” items. Then I really wouldn’t care, honestly.)
Can I live with it the way it is? Of course. This is not a “deal-breaker”.
I do hope they are working on making the harvesting tools shared/account slots.
I can because I want to
I want to because you said I couldn’t

Aye exactly, would be nice to have, but I won’t be sad if they don’t implement it.
I have several sets of everlasting tools (no regrets — got good use out of them) and now I do what penny-hanni et al do: double-click them from the shared slot when I start a toon and before I swap. Works a treat.
That said, I’d surely welcome a way to automate that, even if it cost some more gems.
I’d only consider this a good use of ANet resources if the same tech can also be used to support automating the use of keys for chest nodes, e.g. airship cargo|prybars, bandit chests|keys, etc. If it’s just for the everlasting tools, I’d rather they spent the effort on other QoL issues that don’t already have a really good work-around.
Tbh if something like this came into the game I would not want a refund from having previous tool sets and as I said earlier I have 3 so far. In fact I did plan on buying all and any new ones that came out. Mainly because I like to build themes or chars for my chars. So for example my Ele gets all the ones that look like magic and my Engi gets things that look like they suit Engis.
However when the shared inv slots came out and the reply I got from Anet regarding my second salvage kit saying I got enough worth out of it threw that plan of mine out the window. Even then I had no issue with them not refunding for my tools and I didn’t even ask them to because as I said, I would still use them all on dif chars for the theme aspect of it. However for a salvage kit, I really have no use for an extra one when I will have my main one in the shared slot. A second one offers no other use/bonus like any extra tool sets would (their visual effect). So to me this seemed like a big slap in the face from Anet.
Having said all that, if they did add a shared tool option/system or better yet add the tools to the wardrobe as others have suggested I would definitely buy those slots/service. I would probably still want to buy all the other tools that I still don’t have yet either again for my char theme building. But atm with how they treated me over my second salvage kit I am still a bit hesitant there and will not buy anymore tools because of that.
Now of course if they were to offer me something for my second salvage kit well then I would def do everything as said above and have a smiley face for anet again. Heck when the shared inv slots came in I didn’t even ask for a refund for the second salvage kit I simply asked them if they could give it to a friend of mine since I did not need it anymore and they wouldn’t/couldn’t even do that.
You have a chance to add something like this for people who are asking for it Anet so if you do consider it all I ask is that you think it through this time with regards to players who have purchased such extras in the past.
