Shield Block... JUST TAKE MY MONEY!
ANet’s already demonstrated they can change dodge mechanics with the Daredevil (changes animation and endurance usage), would be interesting if a future Warrior or Guardian elite spec changes the dodge to a block animation.
Don’t forget that the dodge is not just used to avoid directed attacks. They are also a great way of moving out of an AoE area to a safe area. Think the new Wyvern persistent fire. Nice if you block it, but then after the dodge timer expires you are still in the middle of it.
Loved sword and board in so many MMOs. Here it is so underwhelming.
Still blasting rabbits for shield kills. /sigh.
Using endurance to block with a shield, instead of rolling. Basically just an aesthetic option. Make it a trait, an item, a setting, a gem store purchase, or whatever you want! My armor-clad, shield-wielding, beached whale of a guardian will thank you greatly
Much love <3
I LOVE this play-style in other games, like; NWO and Dark Souls.
I wish that this mechanic would make an appearance in GW2.
I’m not very hopeful though. GW2’s dodge roll is a clutch mechanic on which all characters are dependent. Introducing a active shield block would probably deviate too much from the formula… no matter how awesome it would be.
Sometimes I wonder what I’m doing here…
Faab, I was thinking the same thing about the roll being used for movement… Alas, you have a good point Still though, I would love to see a full-sized Norn Guardian shrug off huge blows with timely blocks.
On a side note, I remember Vindictus having really visceral shield use with “Tap to roll and hold to block.” Depending on the attack, you had to decide which to do and it added a surprising amount of depth. Not that I think guild wars REALLY needs that, but its interesting to point out what other games have done well.
… I would have pointed out Dark Souls too, but my strategy in my first playthrough was hide behind the biggest shield I could carry and pray… lmao
