Shocked by the forums
Fact of the matter is, if Anet wants me to buy stuff from there store they need to communicate more and in a better manner, and start backtracking to what they PROMISED in there manifesto.
Why are you shocked? So many play this game that there are bound to be those with issues that they talk about on the forums. We all have different expectations for the game, and some people aren’t satisfied.
And, for every thread that is negative, you’ll find plenty of positive stuff inside the thread too, so a newcomer to these forums shouldn’t get the impression that everyone is upset over the same things.
Cheers.

While I think that the faults of the game should be voiced and opined; I definitely feel the language of said opinions and voiced concerns have been excessively harsh and unwarranted.
I have seen some good criticism (and alot of bad too unfortunately) on this forum, but this is extremely tame compared to Guildwars2guru. It was my go to place before this forum was up, but not anymore.
Another way to view this situation is compare GW1 at launch, and then at the end at EotN. it changed and evolved, and some types of things were discontinued from ever popping up again making them sort of funky or unique. Like you said we’re only a few months in and we’ve even already had permanent content updates like the jumping puzzles and lost shores. Gw2’s quality at launch is very, very good. it’s winning awards for a reason, and it should only get better and more expansive from here. can’t wait!
Totally agree with the OP.
This game had the best launch ever in my 20 years of playing MMOs.
May on the forum whine and cry for stuff to be added but truly have made no effort toreally figure this game out as it stands.
1500+ DEs most of which are in Orr and require 10 people or more to access legendaries.
If they really want to see what this game has to offer. They need to make DE group and get out there and earn the goodies that still wait to be found
Innovation is the development of new customers value through solutions that meet new needs, inarticulate needs, or old customer and market needs in value adding new ways. This is accomplished through more effective products, processes, services, technologies, or ideas that are readily available to markets, governments, and society.
I understand the game is “new” but it doesn’t really improve or even borrow certain things from other games that make them easily accessible to the player base. Dungeon Finder, player to player trading, dueling, multiple game modes for pvp… just to name a few.
It’s not that the people that play the game want something that hasn’t been done before, they want something that’s been done before by multiple MMO’s for sake of convenience and variety.
Using the WoW didn’t have this for x amount of time or you aren’t paying a subscription fee is a pretty feeble attempt to justify certain things that could have been done before they game launched. Also before anyone even goes with this is “Guild Wars 2” and not <Insert random name here> You can have convenient items in a game to make the players lives a little less stressful and still be unique.
I agree about the vitriol on the forums but comparing how long it took WoW to add certain features is not really fair. It’s 2013 now, those features have been used and widely accepted for quite some time and how Anet failed to even add a dungeon finder tool in the game is baffling.
All game forums are full of negativity, because the people having fun ( 90% ) are playing.
You are shocked by negativity on a forum.
I wouldn’t take it to heart Wobbles. The people that enjoy the game, are usually playing it. The people that post on the forums, usually have something to complain about.

Such as a heavy focus on extreme grind, poor loot/income generation and doing nothing but dungeons to the exclusion of everything else?
Oh wait….
All game forums are full of negativity, because the people having fun ( 90% ) are playing.
Not to this degree. People are jaded for a reason.
It makes no difference to me. They are competing with everything else and do nothing spectacular or unique except present a dungeon grind.
The trade off for the no sub was stuff I wanted from the gem shop and living up to the agreement when they sold me this game.
They threw the agreement under the bus in less than 2 months and the gem shop is RNG good luck casino or bad skins.
As far as I can tell they took a bet with Bioware as to whom could crash faster because the parallels are so obvious and blindingly funny. It could have been so much better and the wasted opportunities, it saddens me. The bad decisions and management used.
Frankly i am shocked by the responses happening in the forums. Everyone is going crazy, moaning about endgame or WvW or Spvp.
Game has been out since August. Give it time. YOUR NOT PAYING A SUB!!!!, just come back once they started adding in new features.
Take WoW for instance.
At launch it had nothing compared to what it has now. It didn’t even have PvP at launch.
You can’t compare an mmo of several years ago to an mmo now. GW2 has to compete with WOW in its current incarnation.
As for giving them time if TESO was out or Bioware had improved swtor or possibly even if Darkfall2 had released I wouldn’t be playing GW2 now. They are lucky that they’re in a spot without all that much competition. MMOs devs no matter if they’re free to play or not need to be more agile in responding to issues. or teh market will move, it happened with swtor.
As for the criticism itself arenanet has largely dug a hole for itself.
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro

Exactly this, to people saying that you can’t compare a few month old MMO with one that has been staple for many years would be very true if this were a fair world.
It is no such thing, when you release a product you are immediately competing with everything that shares the same target audience you do. Initially this wasn’t a problem for the game because it was different in many regards, but the moment it tried to grab WoW’s market share it started to get compared to it.
It depends on the type of criticism. I feel that I’ve fully gotten my money’s worth in GW2’s PvE and WvW content so far. So to that extent, I’m not going to attack ArenaNet as “bad developers”, nor would I necessarily tell people to not buy the game. However there are also plenty of flaws in GW2, such as class imbalances, lack of build variety relative to GW1, lots of faults in WvW, vertical progression, etc. If ArenaNet wants to sell more expansions and/or continue to successfully monetize their gem shop, they need to listen to players and fix these problems to keep them playing.

Took them till end of TBC just to get Achievements in the game. Patch 3.3 End patch for Wotlk just to get Dungeon Finder in the game. and 4.3 just to get LFR and Transmog.
MoP before they got pet battles and item upgrades.Yet everyone here is moaning like little kids just because u don’t have everything u want in the 1 go.
Give Anet time, They will be adding more the game as time passes. SURE!!! I could understand this rage and venom that’s in these forums if you were paying a SUB, which your not.
Go play something else and pick up the game when they add more. Anet ain’t just gonna add event patches the rest of the game lifespan.
Also these forums can be looked at without logging in. So anyone that might be interested in buying the game looks at these. I could understand why they might stay away.
if it took 6 years for one car to make air bags a standard feature is it ok for another car to take 6 years after that? no. you release with what your competition has. thats how real businesses work.

All of this
The people screaming on the forums “You can’t judge because the game isn’t a year old yet” or “it’s only been release wahh your can’t judge it’s flaws yet” . If I released a new car model I can’t complain about being judged because I’ve realsed my product out to the market. People in the real world don’t judge a product by how long it’s been released, but by the actual CONTENT or ASPECTS the product has over other product.
Your just making yourself look silly by saying " you ca’t judge it’s only been out for 4 months" because it’s been released it’s the final product, it’s no longer in development , so therefore it WILL BE JUDGED.
welcome to the internet. you must be new here?
yes..the game is new…but they have years of experience from GW1…they didnt incorporate anything that was good or worked.

It IS silly to complain that ‘WoW has x content, GW2 has to as well!’ or somesuch, when it’s impossible to do so. No game starting out has that budget. You guys have to be reasonable in your expectations. They upfront said at launch that endgame stuff was going to mostly come out in expansions.
The repeated topics about this annoy me so much that I’ve decided not to buy Pandaria. Every time I reconsider picking up new blizzard stuff, their fanboys start raging here about how the game doesn’t have this or that or it should have ten years of content up front rageeeee. They did this in GW1, AION, every MMO I’ve been.
So, OP, there’s no escaping the ragers. They flood game after game. I think it’s fair to complain about this or that, but the irrationality of the raids/endgame/etc crowd, who were told up front what to expect but are still upset, it just bogs the forums down.

I agree. Why would you release a title where COD’s are not a standard feature in emails (and emails are the only means of trading), you changed your manifesto to focus on a single dungeon to run endlessly for RNG loot drops that every other title has had to add currency for and not launching this dungeon with a LFG tool, adjust/break all other means of PVE gameplay by adding severe limitations on loot using an antiquated DR system that other games shut down because they couldn’t keep players using it, and not learn from the mistakes other companies have made in the past like needing a PTR so that things like what’s happening to the Engineer class will never happen again or actually code the behaviors of standard skills to work differently between PVE and PVP so that it’s a non-issue?
Yes, also if all MMO’s spend all their time implanting EVERYTHING people say must be in an MMO on release day, including the big one, Years of endgame content. By the time it does hit the market, they will find almost half of what was mandatory than, is now either obsolete, or had a radical change long ago .

I try not to be too negative myself. The thing is, there are also those who knew what to expect and have just either done a waiting game, or have moved on.
For me, I expected this game to be mainly about PvP. To be a game more about skill than anything. They’ve made a point of that with all of the advertisements that they did for the game.
I’m already playing a PvE vertical progression game (no it’s not WoW), I really didn’t need another one. I really don’t care too much about the PvE aspect of this game. I only really do it to help. The plan was always to have GW2 be the alternate game I go to whenever I wanted to do PvP.
Therein lies the problem. Up until now all the focus has been on the PvE side of things. To be very honest, the PvP (both WvW and SPvP) is both under-par and pointless, not even for fun. And don’t give me the whole argument about the game just being released. They’ve had years of experience on GW1 doing PvP. And yes, I know they didn’t want to copy GW1 exactly, but they also could have learned about what worked and what didn’t.
I’m waiting for the big PvP/WvW patch, apparently coming in February. I’m sure a lot of people are in a similar position as me. I won’t say it’ll be the last straw. I probably will still play if it really doesn’t do too much. How much? Who knows. Let’s wait and see.
