I remember back in Guild Wars: Nightfall we didn’t have long spears like used in aquadic combat, we had Short Spears for the Paragon Class and truthfully I’d like to see the short spears return as Main-Hand Only Weapons.

Anyone with me for their return to land combat?

Javelins? Meh … not really interested in yet another single target ranged weapon.

I’d love to see spears. I have posted about it before. Some mobs already use them as terrestrial weapons (centaurs for example). Some people said that the weapon would be to similar to the current spear but most rifles/harpoons and staffs/tridents already share skins so why not spears and their terrestrial counterpart (short spear, throwing spear or whatever).

Doesn’t necessarily have to be exclusively ranged. Some professions could use it ranged, some could use it melee, much like axe, staff, hammer, greatsword. If warrior were to get it, it would most definitely be melee, but guardian would likely get a ranged version, due to their Paragon influences. Ranger could go either way thematically, I think. I’m not sure that spears would fit any other profession very well, though.
But I really want them.

As someone who has the legendary spear I certainly wouldn’t mind being able to use it on land(a friend has been hoping one of the elite specializations would get the spear since HoT was announced). It’s just that if it was going to be like the GW1 spear it would be a one handed throwing spear thing.

As for thematically fitting, given that mesmer have GS(necros and mesmer also use spears already!) I think we can just ignore that …

With the Guardians being the spiritual descendants of the Paragons I can only see it fitting for them to have spears on Land, Revenants I can see having spears on land as well, but I would honestly love to see them returned for land combat.

You know, going through the wardrobe, they have both spears and harpoons in the spear section, I know they have the harpoon gun, but if they wanted to they could separate the spears from the harpoons and create a land weapon from the spears leaving the harpoons for aquadic combat.

That is just the devs being inconsistent. I don’t think there is a need to create further confusion(look at the weapon master achievements).

Yeah guardians are getting bows. doesn’t exactly scream paragon.

I would love javelins to return as a weapon. I loved using them as my paragon in Guild Wars 1. I’ve actually had an idea in my head for a long time that elementalists could use magically charged throwing javelins. I mean, who wouldn’t want to throw lighting javelins like Zeus?

When infused with magic like guardians or elementalists, one could come up with ways for javelins to chain to multiple targets.

It’s rather sad that anyone wanting to RP as a Paragon is limited to weapons they didn’t use. Such as Scepters, Maces, and Swords.
