I have always wondered why certain materials don’t have a storage slot.
Vision Crystals
Doubloons(silver/copper/gold/platinum)
Many cook items – stocks, oils, etc.
New scribe materials – feathers, lumber cores, pens, metal plates, etc. The scribe has become the new cook of lost bag and bank space.

I’m sure there are more, but you get the idea.

Are there any plans to remedy this?

I agree, and also all the “intermediate” stuff that you can craft that is only of use in further crafting, like dowels, weapon components, jewellery settings etc.

Oh, I forgot those. Yes, all that stuff which has no other use but advancing the recipe.

I don’t agree with these because: You never have a reason to craft that many when you are making an item. You should be able to craft X to make X item.

If you are leveling, you can find better ways to level then making those.

This has nothing to do with leveling. It has to do with items that can only be used in crafting and have no other use. A dowel has no stats. On the other hand gems and such can be placed in armor. So, why are they able to be placed in material storage? We can find better ways of leveling other than upgrading gems so lets leave those in open storage. Please.

The ‘intermediate’ items aren’t materials. They’re components. And, there are far too many of them to organize in a storage screen, IMO.

Because kmyou get gems form mining and they are used as BASIC materials in jeweler.
Like said earlier, you shouldn’t be making crafting components until you are ready to use them.
If you made too much of something, sell or delete it.

You nay-sayers miss the point though. This has more to do with crafting materials than with leveling. My cook for example has to make multiple smaller items like poultry stock and bowls of herb stock poultry to make a single Bowl of Lemon Grass Poultry. Now I don’t believe the Bowls of Lemon Grass Poultry should be in material storage, but the incremental stocks should.

So with your logic I should just sell the excess even though I might want to make more Bowls of Lemon Grass Poultry(to make Pots of Lemon Grass Poultry) in the future once I get more of the base materials since I may have run out of Lemon Grass.

And dowels are nothing but round pieces of wood used in future weapons. I may want to make more for future toons. Why can’t they have a material storage slow. Even Mystic Clovers and Mystic Coins got slots.

I agree that the intermediate crafting materials like dowels, or jewellery pieces etc. don’t need to go into material storage.

The only way to get them is to make them (from items that do have storage slots) or buy them from the TP. You’re never going to finish exploring a map and find you’ve got 5 Softwood Dowels in your inventory, which you may want later on but don’t need right now. You’ll only have them if you bought or crafted them and the only reason to do that is if you’re about to turn them into something else. They won’t be in your inventory for very long so there’s no need to have a dedicated storage slot for them.

Whereas gems come from mining ore nodes and from bags dropped by enemies so you can’t control when you get them and certainly can’t create the ones you want as and when you want them. Which means it make sense to have storage space for them so you can hold onto the ones you get until you do need them.

The exception to this is some cooking ingredients because if I remember correctly some recipes make more than 1 copy of an intermediate ingredient and then you can use 1 right away and can’t use a second (at least not via discovery) until 100 levels later on. Or you make something via discovery at level 100 and can’t use it until level 250 or whatever. But even then you shouldn’t be ending up with a lot of them at once, not enough to fill up your bank. I levelled cooking without a guide, as and when I had materials to use, and I think the most components I was holding onto at once was 5 or 6.

Vision Crystals (and Lesser Vision Crystals) however could use a slot. I’d also like to see the Shimmering and Tenebrous Crystals from mining nodes in guild halls added.

YOU are missing the point. You’re asking to be able to store intermediate components, NOT materials. The point you’re missing is DONT CRAFT THEM if you dont need them immediately. You wont need to store them if you arent hoarding them.

I also think that intermediate components don’t deserve a space when you are keeping only a few at a time. Things I can/do/need have more than 100 of for crafting but cannot be used immediately deserve a material space:

Mystic Forge Stones
Milling Basins
Tenebrous Crystals
Blade Shards

Why are you making 20 stocks when you only have enough Lemon Grass for 10?
That is where the issue is, you should never have to make more until you need them. If you’re making jewelry with jewel crafting, why are you making 5 settings when you only need 2? Why are you making 10 dowels when you only need 5 for the inscription in (weapon) crafting?

That is what the point was. You don’t have to. You shouldn’t be making thoses unless you need them.

The reason I brought up leveling is if you are using crafting to level a character. And then if you are, the guides never have you make more of something, they want you to make a full item to sell. Usually you even buy the stuff you want added to storage.

I have no issues with the Guild Hall mats being added, or Blade Shards. But some of the things you want added are really a waste of storage space and Anet’s time to add.

I don’t know why there are people against this. Do you have nothing better to do? Is this your only way to get joy out of life?

With Ellieanna’s logic we shouldn’t make excess planks either. And definitely no storage for them. Those are intermediate items.

You don’t make dubloons – they are drops or rare drops from the forge.
Vision Crystals are just like planks.

So let’s look at the nay-sayer logic: We only need storage for raw items basically. We don’t need to make any other item until it is needed. So get rid of ingot storage, plank storage, leather square storage – all of those are intermediate items on the way to making armor and weapons. My goodness, let’s not have any storage at all for orbs they go into jewelry later. Your logic makes no sense.

Let’s look at real logic: dowels are made so you can make weapons and such. Sometimes you make more than you need, just in case you want to make more in the future. Just like planks and ingots. Vision Crystals are much the same. And so forth.

Not having a storage slot for components that are used immediately is fine. It is mostly stuff that you make at level X but then you use at level X+Y that is really annoying.

So for those of you who don’t want this – why do you bother posting here? What this post is about is helping ALL players with storage of items that in many cases should have a storage material slot.

This would be ANeT’s decision to deal with and I’m sure 99% of the game population would welcome material storage of many of the items mentioned so far.

Debating whether it’s a fair use of anet’s time i can understand but… a waste of storage space? How does that work? Is there some physical limit on the material storage vault?

You are not alone in wondering. They have periodically updated what goes into storage. My guess is that they don’t have a lot of people whose job it is to go back over decisions made ages ago to see if they still make sense given the current state of the game.

Planks, ingots and cloth could be considered “intermediate components” too but they have a storage slot. Likewise candy corn cobs, charged crystals, all the once-per-day ascended things, and probably some other stuff I haven’t thought of. However you look at it there are inconsistencies in what you can and can’t store in those tabs and, as observed above, it’s not like the storage is a physical limitation. Why would you not want to be able to store more stuff????
