Here’s my dilemma.

I have a Norn Guardian. I level’ed up until Lv50+. I started to dislike Norn’s big-sized because of the way it walks and the lore. Due to Norn’s big proportion, the way Norn walks feels “slower” in order to walk the same speed as smaller scale characters. I lose motivation because of the way it moves. I wanted to create a Human but it’ll be weird to have another Guardian of the same race.

I want to be a Great Sword + Heavy armor character.

After awhile, I created a Human Warrior. I level’ed my Human Warrior to Lv20+. I started to feel very annoyed with my Human Warrior. It’s “kill first or get killed”. The self-heal are almost non-existent. Warriors have higher hp than guardians but it’s useless if my heal only heals almost only 1/5th of my HP. I don’t know how am I going to survive with warrior in Orr, dungeons and WvWvW. I’m actually dying more than my thief. I just remembered that most of the characters I ress’ed are warriors during my thief’s journey. I read up that players with high traits on survivability on warriors are frown upon. They’ll not able to DPS well and will still die easily.

I regretted not making a human guardian.

I don’t know if I should make a human guardian after all these efforts:
1. My human warrior has Abyss Dye. I bought it for 5 gold from my thief (1st character) golds. I should’ve waited…
2. My norn guardian has jewelry and armorsmith up to 200+ pts and Lv50.
3. I spent some few golds to pump norn guardian’s jewelry stats.

I really don’t know now.
I feel like I want to play a guardian but I want to be a human race.
I want a character that can survive well in any situations and dish out damage.

Is it worth to reroll 2 characters worth of effort to create a human guardian?
(Ps. No charr, asura and sylvari because it’s not my personal taste.)

The Norn walk just as fast as humans, they jus’ seem to walk slower because they’re bigger … it’s an illusion. BUT, if yer not having fun, reroll. Don’t keep playing characters you aren’t having fun with.

Me, I’d say try lookin’ at some different builds on yer fighter first … I’ve seen some pretty mighty warriors out there, (one of ‘em a Norn warrior I’ve adventured beside a fair bit) so I know they aren’t bad. But if ya can’t find somethin’ you like, change. You aren’t payin’ a monthly fee, so it’s not like losin’ time is gonna cost you money, and if you don’t want ta go over the same areas, you can take your human fighter to one of the other starting zones … me, I really like the Charr starting zone for somethin’ down to earth (that is, not a high fantasy feel, per se, as opposed to the Asura or Sylvari zones …. though me, I run them all because I just love the setting.) with a good atmosphere.

I’m sorry I stepped outta yer box, don’ worry, if
ya whine enough they’ll put me right back.

Thanks for the reply.
I feel playing what we love is important too. I really like guardian’s gameplay with greatsword more than my warrior. But I dislike Norn after playing it for quite some times.

I did further research and it made me more dilemma.
I just found out they nerfed guardian’s GS recently. They increased the cool-down for GS skills. It made me sad. I was comfortable with guardian before I started my warrior. Why can’t they stop touching nerfing the skills after it’s launched? It made my choices even harder. I only want a character that’s not “kill-first-before-getting-killed”. I don’t want a kiting character too. I hate kiting mobs or bosses. The guardian that I play have comfortable combos. I feel relaxed with it. I don’t know about now since they nerfed it.

Remove your Greatsword, Replace it with a Hammer, spec into Altrusive Healing and Empowering Might. Put 5 into Virtues, and 15 into Radiance…You will dominate. AND supply a monumental amount of support (3 stacks of Might, Blind, Invulnerability, and heavy Burn Damage every time you kill a mob through Virtue of Justice Spam).

My Norn Guardian is the same level. Level 50. If you see how they look in their Cultural Armors, you’ll probably change your mind. I simply like the premise of the Engineer alot more, so Im main-lining an Engineer, and my Guardian is going to be my alt.

I almost never use my heal skill…

Heal Sig…that’s the re-gen you are looking for.
If that’s not enough, spec 15 into Defense you get re-gen depending on your adrenaline level.
30 into tactics and your shouts heal or your banners grant re-gen.

As to re-balancing the skills, this will go on forever, your class will never be one way, you must adapt and work with things. They are balancing for the reality of us playing the game in different ways.

I personally love Warrior. I started this game precisely 1 month ago and in that time I leveled my Warrior to 80 and got him a full 100% world completion. He is also a Norn and I couldn’t be happier with him. In terms of your Warrior not being able to survive, there are a few things I can pass on to you to help out in your leveling.

Greatswords do massive damage on Warrior. The key to leveling a Warrior is doing the most damage you can to kill as fast as you can and as I leveled Warrior I found using a Greatsword was the way to go. Of course, you also need the right class specific skills to supplement your ability to do this. While leveling I experimented and found a crazy combination of skills that helped me to kill kitten near everything without issue.

Healing Signet for your heal skill I found to be the best. It doesn’t have a high base heal but it has constant/passive regeneration which I found to be a big help while leveling. Then you want Endure Pain (become immune to damage for 5 seconds), “On My Mark!” (to stack some instant vulnerability), Frenzy (attack super fast) and Battle Standard. As far as traits go I ended up with 30 in Strength, 10 in Arms and 30 in Discipline.

Throughout leveling I could pull groups of enemies, line it up so they were in front of me and hit all those skills except the Standard and use Hundred Blades to make short work of them. Even without the skills I was able to solo with ease. Right now at 80 I go through the entire Cursed Shore zone and strip it of every resource and stay alive while doing it.

Remember you can buy 3 more character slots, 800 gems or convert 3 gold.
As for the warrior, keep dumping points in deffense! I soloed my warrior to 80, taking on 2-3 mobs of higher level or 4-5 mobs on normal level.
When I gather in Orr now I don’t even bother to kill the undead, I have trail of’em behind me while I harvest ore or herbs.
Also Norn might seem slow but the juggernaught and bear forms have a charge… You can get moving pretty fast.

I had the same dilemma with my human warrior, got to level 45 and realised that I found it dull and boring so made the decision to role another human guardian and I’m glad I did even though I didn’t want 2 humans, means I’m a few weeks behind where I would have been but no point playing something you don’t like. The game is still new and there is years of playing ahead so reroll now rather than regretting it in say 6 months time.

Personally I don’t think the warrior is underpowered at all. I play an elementalist and I have spent a lot of time working on my gameplay to survive different encounters. I bound my keys so that I can reach any of them at all times and I’m actively watching my opponents making sure I time my dodges for maximum effect. It’s pretty difficult but I think I’m at a point where I can safely say that I have become a decent player.

My friend on the other hands uses his warrior by standing perfectly still and just whacking anything in front of him. And sometimes he uses his utility skills by mouse clicking on them. MOUSE CLICKING! My ele would be dead three times over if I took the time to mouse click on a skill! I have to do everything in split second!

Warriors lol

Nothing beats a warrior’s kill speed.

Sounds like the OP is concerned about wasting the time/gold spent on the existing characters. If they’re not fun to play, convert them into storage and roll a new one. You get 5 character slots for free. Or just delete and do over if you’re short on slots. They’re not even 80 yet – small blip on the years you may be playing GW2.

“I feel like I want to play a guardian but I want to be a human race.”

So do it. It’s a game, you should be enjoying yourself. If you know what you want, go for it.

You can make back the 10g or so you spent in a week of farming at 80. Don’t let that bother you.

If you have an open character slot, make a human Guardian, and keep the Norn Guardian, too. Play the human as long as it makes you happy. Switch back to the Norn if that makes you happy. If you don’t plan to make a large number of alts, you could keep using your Norn for crafting only, and play the human when adventuring.

If they gift out Birthday presents similar to GW1 then deleting this character and starting another would start that timer from scratch.

I’m pondering kinda the same issue I love my guardian, and tested all the races in beta. I landed on rolling an asura for my guardian, because I love how funny they are and the animations are awesome. I really liked playing it all the way to 80.

But I kinda felt out of place in the story mode. When watching the story “clips” I wished I had rolled a Norn female.

Now at level 80 I’m pondering If I should reroll because of armor looks. At lvl 80, all you got are cosmetics (almost) and I can’t get my asura to “look awesome”. So now I find myself wanting a female norn or human guardian to get the great looks.

If you want your warrior more resilient, go down the defense and tactics trait lines. Gear up for “tanking” (aka Toughness and Vitality). Take armorsmithing, keep that crafting skill up to date, and you will always have top notch armor.
Also, be sure to use the Signet of the Dolyak (damage reduction) and also the Healing Signet which gives you permanent regeneration for PvE. If you go down tactics traits, you will eventually have banners which give you very good health regen too.
And of course, you need to learn to dodge.

My main (80 now) is a Warrior, and I never had a problem tackling even the hardest personal story chapters.

Let me put my response this way.

I have a lot of alts. I have for example 4 rangers. Each different. One is a Norn.
I would suggest. Don’t delete if you have to invest in a haracter slot. 800 gems for 1

Warriors are those who choose to stand between their enemy and all that he loves or hold sacred

I had a Norn Warrior. Found out their battle cries are not my thing to say the least and I found them very dry. They lack edges and ‘my legend this, my legend that’ made me cringe a lot. So it’s a Charr Warrior now.

Oh, and Asura are definitely a good choice. Their exaggerated self-esteem paired with sarcasm is usually recipe for much hilarity.
