Soon we will be able to craft them. I believe that they will be highly expensive to craft if even to just keep costs of the current ones high. I also believe that they will be account bound once you have crafted it in order to keep them from flooding the market. I can only speculate that it will take a long time to get all of what you need to make it so why then wouldn’t you want to use the precursor you made? Then again if you have to choose between using your exotic precursor to that of your ascended weapon it’s not that hard of a choice to make. Precursors are exorbitantly expensive and unless you luck out on one they take a lot of time and gold to get. Half the cost of the legendary you want to make is going towards the precursor itself also. So why shouldn’t they be ascended weapons. They cost more to make than ascended and are rarer to get than ascended so making them ascended seems a logical choice. Besides, wouldn’t part of making your legendary be in being able to use your precursor on the road to attaining your it? Wouldn’t you rather use your precursor to that of your ascended weapon? Admittedly ascended weapons have a great look but there’s a great amount of enjoyment in using my precursor over an ascended.

I been kinda thinking about this my self. I think precursor’s should always be the highest tier stat’s available simply because there so insanely hard to get. What they already cost would eliminate any chance of them being used to replace ascended weapons for people who don’t want a legendary.

I’ve never understood WHY the Precursor was so hard to get. Currently, it seems to be far easier to all the mats you need, then buy the Precursor last. At that point, you never even use the Precursor as a weapon. Seems like they’d want you to have the Precursor to play with, while you quest for all the materials to upgrade to Legendary.

It’s a fairly classic case of developers designing something and underestimating how players will do anything to try and streamline the process. Arena.net figured you’d get the precursor THEN try to gather all the other stuff.

Players instead did almost exactly the opposite, gathering the other stuff WHILE trying to either grind out the money or get lucky in the Mystic Forge.

Well, that’s because access to the precursor currently is based solely on RNG, whereas access to the mats you need for the upgrade process to a legendary aren’t (other than perhaps the Clovers, but personally I got those so fast it seems like it was really unlucky because I got less t6 mats in the process hehe).

Once precursors are craftable, then people might start to get them first. As for if they should be Ascended or not, well, that would depend on the mats required to create them, I suppose.

There’s quite a few other exotics that should be ascended stat weapons IMO too though. 350 Charged Lodestones for Mjolnir anyone? Yeah…
