Thanks ^^

Unless you want to play a revenant or remove some of the restrictions that they put in for people who don’t have HoT (access to guild boons, scribe etc), there’s really not reason to buy HoT if you aren’t max level. Heck, I have multiple max level characters and don’t feel there’s enough content of interest in it for me at this time because I play infrequently, solo, and casually. I still have plenty of original content to work through in spite of playing since early release.

The HoT content is all max-level end-game stuff. Since you’re still working through the base game, there’s no real rush to buy it, unless you really, really want to make a Revenant.

Much thanks kurku and Auralae. I will reach level cap before buying the expansion.

what about the map event rewards? Those might not be available to non HoT owners.

What type of rewards? Gear and weapons?

Gear, weapons, recipes, materials, raids in specific, different events, different playstyles, etc.

Try looking up Auric weapon skins for example. Anet really upgraded their designing

Stick with core game, and then when next expansion comes out, buy that instead. You’ll get HoT free with it.

Just read all the these threads, a lot of negative comments, even from PvE players!

So play the core game, and if you still want HoT before the next expansion comes out, there will most likely be a 50% off sale in like 6 months, get it then.

Complained about WvW before it became cool.
I used to be a PvE player like you, then I played Guild Wars 2

well…this question is more for subscription based games.. like..
“Im still on the original game and im not expecting to get to the end of it for the next 3 months.. should i buy the expansion now even tho im not gonna play it till then?”

You could wait for a discount ,maybe for xmass or new year or after..
personally i bought it the moment i could play the game. Tho since then i plaid mostly on the core game rather on the expansion part

@Buy Some Apples

Yeah, some of the forum posts are negative, but there are also a ton of people including myself who feel very positively towards HoT. I have been having a ton of fun and am quite pleased with my purchase and would recommend that others get it.

Keep in mind that people are more likely to speak up when they have something negative. If it’s working and people like it, they don’t say much

Is there a lot of anti-HoT sentiment? I’m honestly surprised because the expansion is amazing. The downside is that it is aimed squarely at the max level character so for a new player I’d just wait until you hit cap before buying it…and then buy it because it’s a blast imo.

A fair number of people have been all over the forums, but it’s largely the same people making multiple threads and complaining about the same things over and over. Sure, there are improvements that can be made, but not everyone is going to be happy anyway and if, for example, if they spent the time doing events for EXP they’d have all the masteries that they’ve been complaining about. Most of us just go and play the game and enjoy it lol

The jungle, the gliding, the adventure games inside of the jungle, the open world events, the raids, new class, new elite specs and more are all reasons to buy the expansion.
How ever it is not a clear yes, wvw have super issues with the new map and anet do not respond at all to it.
PvP have issues and the fractals have issues, and for us that mostly play those modes on regular have a lot of disapointments to put up with.

With that said, i still would have bought the expansion just to try out all those things i mention first. It wont keep me in game as wvw did for 3 years (unless there will be changes coming to wvw soon), but expansion still have value for me.

And what good are Auric weapons and raids for a non-max level character? The OP asked what was in HoT for new/leveling characters. Other than access to revenant and some guild features, HoT content is pretty much for max level.
