It’s up to you, really, but if you don’t enjoy playing them, and if you don’t see yourself playing those characters in the future, then yes, make up another class. Be sure you put all your legendary/ascended items and permanent mining tools on those characters in the bank first.
You could keep the characters for the bday gifts, if they are nearing or over a year old?
But if you really don’t like them or have older characters then just delete them to free up space for a new character that you will enjoy playing.
I wouldn’t delete them. The third (and possibly future) birthday gifts are quite valuable with their access to dyes worth several hundred gold.
What you can do is park them somewhere useful for a daily harvest, either a rich node or place with a lot of nodes close together or a magnificent chest such as the one at the end of the Pirate JP in Lion’s Arch or if you have HoT, park it at the flax farm and sell the flax or donate to your guild. When you need tools or salvage kits, go to WvW or PvP and back to where you were. I have a level 80 warrior that I only use now for a daily harvest.
ANet may give it to you.
Well, it’s obviously up to you, but I wouldn’t delete max level characters, personally.
Unless, maybe, I had enough levelling scrolls, in the bank, to be able to reinstate them, if I changed my mind.
Even then, I doubt I would, as I tend to get attached to the individual characters and have probably taken time designing their appearances, etc..
But, if you really have no attachment to them and could easily re-level those professions, if you ever change your mind, then maybe you should?
If you delete characters, you will sacrifice many things. For example:
- You will lose their birthday gifts.
- You will lose any progress they may have, like map completion or crafting recipes.
- You will have to level up all over again to try any new elite specializations.
Getting more slots is always better.
It’s a personal preference thing. But here is my take on it.
I don’t delete any characters unless they were just name place holders or for key farming. I have 4 or 5 characters that are level 80, that I never log in on, have most waypoints unlocked and also unfortunately have some type of crafting that I will not be re leveling. I used to kind of like norn and asura. But then I really started disliking them so I re rolled but kept the original characters. So I have all the professions at 80 but some duplicates since I couldn’t (crafting leveled on them) delete some of them and the others I just felt attached to even tho I never play them. At least they still get birthday gifts which are nice.
Secondly I have a lot of classes I never play. I have 4 “mains” as in very proficient at all those classes and enjoy them the most now. However!!!! This can change. Right now I play viper engi. Before that my engi sat around for at least 2 years as materials mule. My necro is now my materials mule lol. So even tho you don’t like the class now in the future that can change.
There are many uses for an unused character, many of which has been said already.
- Birthday Gifts
- Storage Space
- Parked at a Jumping Puzzle
- Parked in a specific region for that region’s gathering Daily should it arise.
- Parked at an easy XP HoT adventure (if you still need xp)
- Crafting Character (and associated mats)
- Armor/Outfit viewer (if the character is of a race you otherwise wouldn’t have)
It’s always best to just create new characters than delete old ones, especially if the old ones are…old. The perfect balance for me is 9 characters covering all races and classes.

This most definitely. I have 20 characters. 16 of them are farming materials for my guild.
14 are level 80.
