Hello everyone, for the past few days i’ve been experiencing the most awful situation. I am a thief player since the GW2 launch, i do have an Warrior on 80 and a 80 Revenant aswell, but i just can’t have the same experience and fun that i have playing as a Thief. Now with the Raids, NO ONE needs thiefs because our class is mostly based on DMG and other classes can do it better and be useful for another things needed in raids too. So.. i’ve been " Forced " to play another class but i don’t wanna spent another 1200GEMS to have an inventory the way i like. Any thoughts about it? Don’t judge me if it is a bad idea. Thank you !

You aren’t actually forced to switch characters, so that’s more of an excuse for the request then a solid reason.

That’s not to say I wouldn’t LOVE this too. I’ve held of on rerolling my ele because I don’t want to rebuy the bag slots. The problem with this idea is: many players (myself included) have bought bag slot expansions for multiple characters. So that’s either alot of refunds or a lot of angry paying players.

Only thing I can offer is to suggest waiting until bag slots go on sale, possibly in January, they can go for 200-320 depending on sale, so its possible you could get those 3 slots for only 600 gems.

Still sucks having to unlock them for each new toon, I agree, but its what we’re stuck with.

What makes you think they won’t charge 2000 gems for one single transferable inventory slot?

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Funny thing I was just about to suggest the same. Just make all characters’ inventories accountwide. It’d be cumulative too, if I have 9 characters with all bag slots unlocked, I would be able to access all of those via my character’s inventory. They could have window tabs per character so I can identify which stuff I have on what character. Furthermore, Anet could develop a new bag whose properties is to lock its items to that character so I don’t mess up which weapons I want to stay on what character.

We already spend time shuffling items across characters via mail or via bank so why not remove the physical barrier between character inventories?

If Anet want, they could make this a gem store “service” – I’d pay for this.

There would still be some issues for people who have purchased bag slots.

A new character slot costs 800 gems and gives you the characaters started pack + 4 bag slots.

A bag slot costs 400 gems giving you 1 bag slot.

The issue is if all slots were shared like this buying 1 character would net you over double the amount of storage as a single bag slot.

I’m refusing to buy bag slots until they’re account-wide. At a price of 400 gems (80g at the moment), there’s not nearly enough value.

It wouldn’t bother me if they were. I’d have an easier time of it maxing out my alts’ inventory bags if they were.

I wish. Then gem refunds for all alt purchases so I can buy fun things instead.

It’ll never happen tho cuz deep inner sadness is a part of life.

Back on topic of shared bags.

Wouldn’t this in a way reduce the amount of bag space you have compared to the current system? If all your bags were “account bound” and you can have a total of 8 bag slots. That would be 8 bag slots shared between ALL characters. So at max 160 slots to share with all your characters. While currently if you have 2 characters with max bag slots you have 320 slots. This might end out being a net loss in overall storage capacity for those of us that carry multiple sets/weapons.

Account bound bag slots would be outstanding. Once you buy those slots they are then open for any character you make on that account. Simply refund the difference after anet figures out how much each bag slot should cost for the account-wide unlock. Too simple too easy. In order to keep people happy about the change anet could give the players an option to turn existing bag slots account wide or not. If the player only plays one toon they might not want to convert over as the account-wide unlock would probably be more than the old 400gem purchase per slot. BUT for those who play multiple toons they probably have already paid above and beyond an account-wide unlock of bag slots and would be due a refund on some gems. Over all an excellent idea.

One step further would be to implement an option to pay for account-wide bag slot unlock while leaving the individual unlock for those who only play one character.

Now sharing those bag slots with your other characters would be a bad idea, not just for the devs having to code something like that but the size of that bag window on your screen would be a complete pain. 5 character slots with 8 total bags at 20 slots each….possible 800 item count and having to keep track of what is on which character…no thank you.

I’d rather be playing the game than writing this post.

Perhaps I wasn’t clear in my first post on this topic. I didn’t mean 8 bag slots across the entire account. I meant all bag slots per character would be accessible via an universal inventory.

So if I happen to have 9 characters and each have 8 bag slots, that’d be… 72 bag slots in all. And no I don’t think this is unreasonable.

Take the hypothetical scenario above, since I have 9 characters and each have 8 bag slots unlocked, I already have access to those slots. I just have to use a middleman (aka bank and mail system) to get to my items scattered across my entire account.

I’m saying remove the middleman and leave everything else be.

I still don’t see why anyone would buy bag slots in this case… 400gems per slot… vs character slot: 800 gems for 5 slots. Pretty obvious which is a better choice.

Though I do understand why people would want this.

My comment about total space was for the OP, just turning bag slots account bound I think was the suggestion.

Which means ANet would raise the cost of the character slot meaning those that wanted just the character slot and couldn’t care less about the extra bag slots are punished.
