Should there be a section on the site where it is possible to see one’s characters and members of a guild, gear, weapons etc…

Or would this create a precedent where people would start criticizing players and focusing too much on gear and enchants instead of on the player?

I for one would like to be able to see my characters on the site and see where I can improve them or where they have something missing but I also would like to keep that information private. What do you think?

Private. None should ever be able to see personal belongings. If you want them to see your stuff ping it.

If they do something like that, then yeah, private. Opening it up for everyone to see will make the forums a cesspool of armory trolling, not to mention the armory trolling in the game.

If you want to see your character: log into the game.

If you want to see your characters stat information: log into the game and press “H”.

If you purely want this as a method of viewing other people’s characters, progression, information, and things of that nature to judge a player by arbitrary numbers instead of skill set: log out of the game, uninstall GW2, install WoW, and play that.

If it was private, I would think this was fine, public, absolutely not (a middle ground where you could permit people or put out a “snapshot” could be okay).

Also no to any kind of “inspect” functionality in game – ASK the person if you want to know, for god’s sake – it builds community instead of making everyone into creeps looking at your stuff.

EDIT – You don’t really need it, though to see your stats – just open a character builder and set up your gear as you have it – the stats will be correct. That’s not something you can do in WoW or other games.

Why not have an armory? You people seem to think that all people will do is look at your armor and say, “Nu uh, you don’t have the right gear, you don’t have enough achievement points, and you sure don’t have the right build”.

I can say that this happened in WoW on more than one occasion, and that’s when I asked what their ages were. 11 and 13. You probably wouldn’t want to play a dungeon with those kids anyway, because they probably have no clue what they’re doing.

Sure, you’re going to have those complete morons that won’t let you into a party because of the gear you’re wearing, but now it’s not a big deal because you can use the LFG tool and find a party in 3 seconds anyway. And anyway, they probably would’ve had you ping your gear anyway so they could take a look at it, and even without the inspect tool.

Why not have one? Instead of having to ping your gear in chat, now it gets a lot faster by having them inspect you, and you can leave the party and find another just as quickly. Personally, I want an inspect function in the game so I can see what people’s armor mixes are and how they get them to look so cool. I’m guessing that’s what the majority of people would want.

I would actually like this, sometimes I wish GW2 was like Diablo 3 for example where you can look at your friends characters, see their gear, and whatever look they have. There are already groups with gear kittens that demand you ping everything or you’re out. Adding something like this wouldn’t change the fact that the majority of groups don’t care.
