Especially for Engineer, but really for any class, is it always better to get a 10 in a Trait? some of the 5s seem like they are worth dipping into for, especially for something like the Toughness boost.

Some minor traits are way better than major ones. At least for Mesmer.

Depends entirely on what traits you get.
Going 10 to get stats isn’t the best deal since 100 toughness is like 5% damage reduction…

Depends greatly on the class in question. Warrior have some of the two best 10 point Traits

1) 10 in Strength for 12% damage bonus at full Adrenaline.
2) 10 in Discipline for 9% critical hit chance bonus at full Adrenaline.

Those are great bang for your buck, really.

My shouts sword/rifle warrior does 0/25/15/30/0. Why? 25 for 10% damage to bleeding targets, and 15 for health regen based on adrenaline. Some 5 traits are pretty good; some 10 traits are pretty bad.

10% to bleeding targets is huge.

I love it when they go percentage rather than fixed numbers.

Shame it is all the way up at 25 points!

I’d say the only hard and fast rules are that you never want unspent trait points and a 5 or 10 is better than any other number. Having 5 in a line and getting a trait you don’t think is very useful is better than having 2 in one and 3 in another and no perks at all.

Other than that it really depends on the build you’re going for. If there’s 2 minor traits which you think are better than either of the major ones then split the points and get the 2 minors.

Thanks all. I was mainly worried since so many builds seem to have a 10 divider (especially 30/30/20s).
