Show locked skins in Hero panel wardrobe
Your post is worded a little confusingly. As far as dyes go, you don’t have to look them up on TP to see; they just appear as locked options in the Hero panel. As for skins, I agree. They should at the very least move the wardrobe function from the bank tab to the Hero panel.

yes but to preview them with the armor you havent unlocked, you have to use the preview window where you need to preivew dyes from TP or chat codes, or apply them to yourself on your current armor hoping you got the correct slot.

Okay, I gotcha. Yeah. That’s a good point. I think there should maybe be a separate “preview NPC” that combines the wardrobe and dyes, so that you can see them all together, and then you can just go obtain whatever you decide on as normal.
I wish they would move the wardrobe out of the bank and onto the hero panel also. There have been so many times I preview new armor and then to get an idea of the dyes, I have to pull the dyes up from the TP. Since the dye slots don’t match, it’s only an approximate idea of what it would look like.
ANet may give it to you.
This need needs to be a thing. Or the NPC preview option as suggested above at the very least but preferably the hero panel mostly.

Yes a thousand times yes! this! I can’t believe when they made the update to wardrobes they made it kind of kitten! I’m so tired of using the preview window!
I greatly support this suggestion. Showing the unacquired skins in the wardrobe from within the hero panel UI would be a huge QOL improvement for basically every player.

QOL changes and updates really seem to be lacking.

This is needed, IMO. You can currently easily see the skins you have unlocked, but you can’t really see what skins you want to unlock (since you can’t really control dye channels to see how things match up), which for me would be much more useful.
I disagree with this suggestion. It would add TONS of clutter to an already cluttered interface. Letting us preview onto our hero panel would be a better suggestion, as we already have the wardrobe at the bank.
You have every weapon skin, every item skin, and every back piece skin then. In your hero window, the same thing you use for on-the-fly changes. That is a LOT of information to have for a new player, or even an old player. Like 5000+ options in a single small window. That’s not a good idea.
Using the bank, with all it’s larger interface and it’s better ability to be sorted, I think we should preview into the hero window. Just not have the options in the hero window themselves. Otherwise we’re dealing with too much kitten.
It’s different than minis or dyes, because there simply isn’t thousands of them. Minis are stored by what they are, and there is only 120 of them (give or take) total. Dyes are a similar story, with only a couple more than minis, each with tiny icons unlike weapons or armor.
Listing them all just doesn’t work, in addition to it constantly being a taunt that you don’t have every last weapon skin.

The problem you describe is a byproduct of the UI itself, not the suggestion. You seem to gearing towards an entire UI overhaul, something many of us are already demanding. In the meantime, all we want is a hugely immense and small change regarding skin preview. If dyes can have them, there’s no reason skins ought to be excluded.

and like dyes you would be able to toggle them off which would make it the same as now.
As for “clutter” … well stuff is going to show up there when you unlock anyway. If someone has everything unlocked that is going to be the same amount of clutter. Calling it clutter also suggests that unlocking skins is something people should be actively avoiding which would be odd for GW2.
If they were to implement that, there would need to be a toggle on/off button to avoid clutter.

I agree with completely moving the wardrobe and all it’s content into the hero panel. If they implement the skins the same way they implemented the locked dyes, I would be one very happy woman.
So long Treeface.
“…Kormir? I know not of whom you speak.”
I was just thinking about making a suggestion thread regarding this. So here’s my contribution to the thread
Current issues:
The original preview window is hard to use and our only choice when it comes to previewing locked skins.
The dye preview section that comes with this original preview screen is incredibly rudimentary. You require the dye itself/chat links/TP to preview these dyes, it’s not obvious which of the 4 dye panels correspond with the dye regions on the armour and it applies to all armour pieces.
As a result, this means that previewing mix-and-match armour previewing and irregular dye patterns really is difficult and you don’t get the full effect.
Solution:
However, the Hero Panel offers so much more (since its overhaul some time ago). Many locked/unobtained items can be previewed here already, such as dyes, outfits, finishers and mail carriers. Being able to play around with the dyes on a locked outfit is really quite important as it helps me (and probably many others) decide whether I want the outfit or not.
But this feature isn’t available for armour skins! I would imagine that such a feature would improve sales of gem store armour skins. Players would be able to easily see if a certain piece mixes in well with their over-all look and if they’re able to achieve the dye pattern they want.
Of course, this could also apply to other skinnable items, such as weapons, backpieces and aquabreathers. However, I feel that armour would benefit from this change most of all because of the dyes.
Problems and workarounds:
I can foresee this change (if poorly done) would clutter the wardrobe section of the hero panel. This is probably the largest issue this feature would have.
However, if they introduced a filtering system to the wardrobe, this would bypass this problem. It would also improve the current system- people who have many skins unlocked already have issues regarding clutter and not being able to find the right skin (besides the search bar).
When opening the wardrobe, the wardrobe would show unlocked skins only by default. Click on a drop down list, and you could select “Show All”, “Show Unlocked Only” or “Show Locked Only”.
Here are some other filters that could benefit: “Gem Store”, “Dungeon”, “Crafted”, “Cultural”, “Free to Apply”, “Purchased with Karma” etc.
Moreover, there could be a “Favourite” feature (similar to the Dye section), whereby right clicking the armour would show an option to add to favourites. The skin is then quickly and easily accessible.
Finally, this could mean that previewing any item could be redirected to the Hero Panel instead of the outdated preview panel we currently have. My only concern with this would be FPS drops- is the Hero Panel more requiring than the basic preview panel? Would the difference be noticeable and detrimental?
As long as my hero panel doesn’t become super cluttered in the process (as others mentioned maybe toggles) I’ve been pushing for something along these lines for ages.
Desperately want to be able to properly preview dye. (it was worse before you could preview from the TP, then you had to keep an extra bottle sitting around if you wanted to preview it)
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon
I’ve been wishing for this, actually. The wardrobe at the bank isn’t as convenient.
