Ok this is a pic of my stuff.

I guess I’m an average, casual player, I’m not into the deep mechanics of the game, and I’m not one that has to do everything.

But there’s a lot of stuff I haven’t even seen, or collected, or have any idea where it might be collected if I wanted to farm (Grind) for it.

So fractal relics I know where they come from, didn’t get any as I’m not a big fan of ArenaNets idea of dungeons, but from fractal relics down I have never seen or collected any of it, and have no idea where it might be.

Now having played the game through for 1,374 hours, I would have thought I would have maybe collected a bit of most items………………….

I only have one character by the way.

Most of those items are dungeon tokens. Each dungeon has it’s own specific tokens. Shards of Zhaitan are from Arah for example. Symbols of Koda from Honor of the Waves.

If you don’t do dungeon, you miss all those individual currencies.

They’re probably not as bad as you think…with the right group.

Fractal relics = fractals obviously

Guild Commendations = Guild Mission, can be used to buy guild weapons/banners some vanity stuff and ascended items.

Rest are dungeon tokens which are acquired by doing the respective dungeon.

Well I did do the story line dungeons.

But in the earlier days Rangers were “not welcome” in dungeon parties.

Just why does any game need all those “currencies”, I guess there are different rewards for all those currencies, but it just excludes some players from getting any of those rewards because they might “not like dungeons”.

As far as I know, the only thing those tokens exclude some players from is a couple of runes, of which I believe only the Superior rune of the Monk is popular, perhaps certain specific stat combinations and legendary weapons.

I don’t mind doing “stuff”, I don’t like doing mindless grinding for “stuff”.

And a LOT of it looks like mindless grinding for very little “stuff”.

The point of the dungeon currencies is that they are dungeon currencies. Every dungeon has unique weapon and armor skins associated with it, so each has a specific currency. You can’t get a suit of Arah armor without running Arah explorable mode dungeons a number of times.

For players who like dungeons they become badges of honor. For other players they simple are another skin people can play for without spending gold or karma.

There’s nothing wrong with having different dungeon tokens for different dungeons.

In the olden times those items simply dropped from the bosses or general population of those dungeons randomly. Tokens were invented as an answer to players feeling unlucky and not getting the armor drops. That’s the reason they are specific to each dungeon, they are a (working) band-aid applied to an older problem.

I would say specific rewards for specific activities (be it items, titles, minis) are a good thing. Anyone that fancies the reward can partake in the activity after all.

lol, over 1k hour in this game and you didn’t touch a dungeon, those badges probably came from ap chests, and seeing how you have over 150 laurels, you’ve been playing this game for more than 6 months, a true farmer….

Haha, been playing since beta testing, just the one character.

I wouldn’t class myself as a farmer, but I’m not a big spender.

I do repeat things I like doing, Balthazar being one example.

I did do story line dungeons.

AP badges came from WvW.

Really ?

Just me, Ranger.

I would guess it’s because my gear and weapons are all transmuted down to low level gear.

Yes, that’s it.
Well that’s your choice I guess, though a strange one in the light of all your info you’ve given.

What I see is a freshly created character in the typical ‘one dye is enough effort’ scheme. I think it is highly strange that one would transmutate a whole set of end game gear (with over 1000 hours gathering stuff at it) over the basic starter armor, in a single dye.

I blame the internet for making me so.

I just didn’t like the chunky feel of any of the armours, I’m comfortable with how I look.

The look of weapons and armours don’t interest me, so if your next to me flashing a big flashing weapon, and spiky brash armour, I just think “So what, it’s no better than mine”.

I have 4 hours more that you and I have also been playing since the betas.
I have nothing in my wallet though- I am always broke.
never had any dungeon tokens either.

I do like what you did with your Ranger.
It makes a nice change from all the Bling- I imagine you stand out quite a lot at high lvl events.
I like to keep my characters fairly simple too but you took it a whole other level

Like I said I’m bit of a saver, and I can’t see the point in wasting gold on armour or weapons that don’t have higher stats.

So I just got the cheapest stuff with the highest stats (Gosh some of it was real ugly, my greatsword had a double blade, what rubbish) and transmuted down to basic stuff.

I mean you only have to look at the “My little pony skinny and boney” short bow, what were ArenaNet thinking of, how embarrassing.

It was good being able to hide the mask and shoulders, and a bonus when they added the gloves.

yeah you guys don’t know what casual means. Or we have extremely opposite definitions of casual play. If you log in each day to do the daily, you are already not on my casual list. Hell more than 100 hours is not at all casual. People have weird definitions of casual.

I class myself as “casual” because I’m not a hardcore player, I’m not into the “build” culture or mechanics of the game.

I don’t take it too seriously, and just try to enjoy the game, and do the stuff I like doing.

However I don’t like being shut out of content by ArenaNet, just because I have to have an ascended this or that, or it’s just for “so called” elite players.
