So as I read forums and talk to friends and other gamers in guilds across various servers there is one pattern that seems to be clearly emerging. Servers are in a constant and never ending state of flux because guilds and groups are moving from one server to another for whatever reasons.

Some are saying because they want to be on a successful WvW server (but apparently don’t want to do it themselves). Some are saying because the pop is too low where they’re at and want to go somewhere better, meanwhile those servers they’re moving to, others are leaving because people are saying the pop is getting too high!

The problem is this won’t change as long as that free switch is still turned on. Things will just ebb and flow and constantly change. There will be no server pride or server community because people are switching servers every two weeks or less!

I’m on a heavy pop server who’s doing good in WvW. Recently we’ve gotten a massive influx of people who apparently want to be carried. Because of that the groups and guilds that helped make our server do well in WvW are talking about moving where there are (To quote) “less scrubs and bandwagoners”.

So they move and the scrubs that came for a carry follow them to the next place? Or the pop gets low and so another mass shift to another server which suffers the same nonsense?

This is all my opinion as are most things on a forum like this. I do believe that shutting down the free transfer service would be doing the players a GREAT service by allowing them to form community and server pride and stabilize the game a bit.

I say shutdown and give people a couple of free transfer tokens.
Then no more moving around.

Shutting down free transfers now will not fix the issues we currently have.

There has to be greater incentive for playing on “losing” or low population servers to balance out the numbers. Otherwise, the only reason to move from a winning server is long queues, and that really isnt a compelling reason any longer for most people.

well if this is the case than this game is in for a world of hurt. As it stands WvW is about who has the biggest and most consistent zerg. This means high pop servers are the best in terms of WvW. Low pop servers will NEVER hold a candle to them.

WvW is a wonderful concept but its implementation is very poor. It doesn’t reward skill or even trying hard. It simply awards the biggest horde and punishes the weak. Ultimately however, the server transfers are the root cause of more than just WvW issues.

There is no swift answer to balance WvW. You can’t over-reward small pops and you obviously can’t leave it where it is. Honestly I don’t see any fix in the near future for this. WvW is thus far a failed experiment that is now causing a lot of collateral damage in the process.

Turn off the transfer switch all the same. Let servers form a sense of community, WvW isn’t going to be balanced no matter how you look at it either way.

To late. WvW already died on servers that were on top before with organization when they got flooded and organization became impossible and the zones got filled with people that hardly know which game their playing.

Droves of WvW players on servers have quit becouse of it.

Talking WvW, the 3 way system is good. The point system is bad however, its not about skill, just about who has the biggest zerg to win by the end of the week.
DaoC RvR worked much better, consistant 3 countries fighting eachother, was about character progression, capturing relics for PvE bonuses and opening up a dungeon.
Much easier to organize alliances if one server got to strong and getting to know your enemy and who to look out for. Also beeing able to join when you wanted with no queues..

I’d say the damage is already done. They should’ve stop free transfers a long time ago. My server is absolutely flooded with people that jumped on the band wagon. I originally picked it, because it wasn’t a high pop server. Now I’ve made my home there, I don’t want to change, so I just have to live with all the scrubs that jumped ship from their own server that was doing poorly in WvW.

It really sux. ANet said free transfers would only be for the first week. I guess you just have to take anything they say with a grain of salt.

I think WvW is very difficult to balance. Ultimately one side has to lose and it will be the less organized and/or the side which turns out with less numbers. And it will be fairly consistent.

Not sure what you can do about that.

Same on my server LOCO, scrubs joined (ofcourse its not their bad playing that made their server bad) to completly ruin my server instead.
Half of the time their also from a non English speaking country aswell, so it clashes with everything, and they all use up the supplies in keeps..

Are u in a wvw winner server already ?

Could explain why my server has completely dominated last week. This week we’re actually against good servers and it looks pretty even so far. I’ve been here since prelaunch so don’t blame me if we start getting bad =)

I would say that they shouldn’t completely stop the free transfers, but limit them. Maybe one or two per month, and then you can pay 5-10 dollars for another one.

iirc, Anet stated that the reason free transfers are still instituted is because guesting hasn’t been possible yet. So until then, we have to live with the situation we are in.

Irregardless, there is a WvW system in place and I for one, sincerely hope Anet DOESN’T ‘fix’ this ‘problem’. The game has only been up for a little less than 2 months, with less than a dozen rotations made possible. Out of the many complaining posts I’ve read so far, many hold no weight. We have to accept that people will swap servers irregardless if there are server transfers or not. We have to accept that people will quit midweek if things don’t look promising. We have to accept circumstances may strain a population this week but not the next. There are so many variables to consider that I sincerely fail to see how all these people complaining seriously understand what they are asking for.

As far as the WvW front is concerned, with any system, there will be perpetual battle of checks and balances; common causes and special causes. It’s Anets job to not respond to common causes and to find the best fix for special causes. And as far as I’m concerned, I’m certain that this is exactly what Anet is discussing right now.

Free server transfers are one of the smartest things ANet can do to increase the longevity of this game. I’m never worried about logging in one day and finding myself on a dead/limp server. I can always switch quickly and painlessly. There’s really no need to worry about this MMO’s lifespan until the very last server starts to dull.

As for WvW, my hope is that there will always be ebbs and flows. PvP experiences are insanely boring if the other side always wins. In terms of WvW, one player, or even a small group, will never carry a match that size and scope. WvW takes a collective effort to make work. If people are willing to swap servers because they want to play strategically instead of “lukin 4 peeps 2 kill”, your server will probably be better for it.
