Silk Scraps
I delete both if my collection tab is full. Doubt I’ll notice a grind for them.
Possibly, it is however more likely reducing the sheer number of silk scraps that exist out there. If gossamer was changing, then it would probably be more directly affecting the ascended grind though
Certainly due to ascended, and to get a tiny extra out of the system, remember it will take 20 of this 10 of that 20 of the other thing to make your piece of what ever material it is.
I was so glad I’ve been processing silk and leather to stockpile in anticipation of Ascended armor.
Good. They should do something similar to bloodstone dust.

This. Though kind of regret not processing that last 2 stacks I had last night now hah.

Yes, it’s to reduce the number of silk scraps — but WHY do that? The answer is to make Ascended Armor more grindy.
If Ascended Armor uses the same formulas as Ascended weapons, you’ll be needing a ton of the T5 materials like silk (like we need mithril and elder wood for weapons).
I think it’s more likely because the price of them on the TP is the same price as vendoring them, which is dirt cheap. I’ve been vendoring those items for months now, I would love it if they went up in price by like, 4 copper even because of this.

It’s actually less than the Vendor Price, once you take out the Auction Fees. Every person who sells Silk Scraps on the Trading Post is throwing money away. Tiny amounts of money, sure, but it adds up over time.

If the weapons are any indication, a single piece of armor might use more than one stack of refined t5. Especially for Cloth/leather ones (heavy might replace some of those with metal).
Yeah. If you will try to craft those, you will most likely notice the grind.

Ori and Ancient were noticeable, but silk and leather rain from the skies :P The higher tiers are a different story, but I never upgrade mats as it is. Not being able to farm them in the sense that you can’t mine them makes them a bit different. I still don’t think one extra of each for the refinements will affect me.

Don’t forget that you need 6 pieces of armor for a full set — so the grind is inherently worse.
Plus, “one extra of each” for the refinements sounds like only a bit, but it means you’re actually getting 33% less bang for your buck (6 scraps got you 3 bolts before but only 2 now).
There is a fundamental difference between silk and leather v. mithril and elder wood. If you need the latter, you can go harvest it. You know where to find it and if you are willing to put in the time, you can get X amount. With silk and leather, getting it will be RNG-base (random number generator).
When ascended armors come out, we will see how popular this idea remains.

Spot on, anet HAVE to address this in the recipe.
Just on the thread topic, so this matches the use of wood when it clearly should have been the opposite, ie wood recipes reduced to 2 per plank. More grind, thanks anet.
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro

I agree, I’ve just hated silk and leather with a passion for the longest time, I may just be a bit jaded :P
Leveling a craft to 500 is the main drag. Once you hit 500, it’s not too bad. Luckily I don’t really care much for ascended items, especially if I just have to transmute better looking skins onto them. I see myself making one set casually, then making my alts shrug it off for as long as possible.
It’s to get rid of them a little faster. I fricken hate silk. Should be raised to like 50 or something and let it stack to 9999.
I NPC silk n leather all the time, it’s like bloodstone dust but worse. :O
I’ve even bought some from TP before and NPCs it just cuz of how much I hate it.
Even if used for ascended they probably wouldn’t change the drop rate from salvage so doesn’t matter.

It will likely be 50 bolts of silk to create a spool of silk woven thread (which would be used to make a bolt of damask). You will likely use 5-10 bolts of damask per one tailoring piece (depending on how much insignias will use), and 1-5 per medium and heavy one (plus leather/metal). There are 6 pieces for a set of armor.
That’s potentially up to 12 stacks of refined silk for a set of light armor. Which is 36 full stacks of silk scraps.
The drop rate is nowhere that good.

36 full stacks of silk is 9000 scraps. That is 7g, hardly a “grind” It will literally be more of a grind to buy that many stacks then it will be to get the gold.
I get 1-2 stacks a day just running around doing random things.
that blue rag drops everywhere, so cheap on trade post too you just sell it to merchant lol

Actually incorrect. You should know Anet’s thinking by now.
There is a guaranteed way to get silk and leather. Goto the TP!
Just like precursors!

What Flubble said. The economy is oversaturated with silk and thick leather; they’re as cheap as copper and green wood on the Trading Post. Which is a weird discrepancy to have to put it mildly.
Yak’s Bend
It doesn’t seem to have helped thick leather though. Before the update the price on the TP was 8c, which with the fee was the same as vendoring it. Last time I looked it had dropped to 1c.
Personally I’m glad of the change, before this I’d actually hope for lower tier mats because they were more vaulable/useful and that just seems backwards.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Anet/John Smith most likely don’t want any items to sell at or under vendor price. The issue is that vendoring these items creates money. If you post on the TP, it actually destroys money because of the 15% total fees.
This is most likely in combination with ascended to reduce the overall amount of scrap and leather on the trading post, as I think they are both in the millions of supply.

Supply will be lowered because of silk → gossamer relation via mystic toilet.
With any luck they will have decided not to add ascended armor and are using this change as a one off fix for supply/demand. These items are effectively worthless and a market correction is needed. However if the demand is being adjusted just to make endgame crafting more expensive then yes, it does translate into making the game more of a grind.

36 stacks! I bought 30 stacks to have my “ascended stock” + hoping a price increase for leftovers. Guess there wont be leftovers = /
And 7G may not be much for many but not everyone is good at making gold (or consider the ways to get it fun) and that is if the price doesn’t go up =S
