Silverwastes. 80g a day you say? Uhhh...
First thing you need to do is define a day’s worth of playtime.
After earning my keys throughout the day I just followed a chest train for a few hours :s
I made around 60-110(lucky!) each time. I salvage and sell the materials and things I get which is how i get all the gold. I hope that helps.
First thing you need to do is define a day’s worth of playtime.
Well, i had rather hoped anyone answering would include the time ratio. How much times they spent doing this in Silverwastes. Otherwise, I have no clue

It’s likely around 10G/hr at most when factoring in time to gather the crests for the keys, opening the bags, and listing everything on the TP.
Yeah, I’d guess anyone claiming 80g a day was likely just chest farming. If you actually sold everything you got, I can see it bringing in 80g a day.

^this, and remember I can say I made 80g a day.in SW. But that be because I’m spreading what I made over 3-4 weeks. With some luck drops along the way.
Its the same when people say they can make 10g an hour, they are not. They can not play for a single hour and make 10g, unless they get a very lucky drop. Like I did the other day with a sigil of energy. Made 8g in 3 mins as it was on the exotic weapon I got out of a daily log in chest.

Farm bandit crest then trade them for heavy bags then sell all mats on TP, a chest train also and sell all the mats.

I doubt people are factoring in the time for gathering crests. I’d guess a lot of people have a big stockpile of the things because they weren’t interested in buying anything else off the vendor.

Okay, so… on your hypothesis, you’re talking… 8 hours of gaming in SWs COULD yield you this amount of profit
This is fine with me, but that phrase “I can make 80g a day in SWs” is becoming far too common when I am in game, I’m getting rather tired of seeing it, truth be told, cause I’ve never yielded such a profit.
I’ll be honest, I seriously doubt I could run the chest train for 8 hours… I’m stubborn, a tad OCD too, but… 8 hours train running? A bit excessive for me, lol
If you have to work 8 hours to make 80 gold in a game, you may as well move to China and join the gold farmers…

Do chest farm, for 5h you can farm 400-500 bags.
But yea I could farm 200g /day before nerf of chest train.
80g a day is doable in8-10 hours doing both events and chest running, I sell everything, if its 2 copper more on TP then do it, chest run should get you 74-80 bags an hour or between 35-43 per loop , if a rare is worth more than the ecto you might get out of it I sell instead of grind sell the ambrite stacks sell the mat stacks, kill all arid devours and salamander drakes for the shot at t6 mats sell, sell, sell. its a grind but worth doing, soon as a map starts to fizzle bounce to the next and repeat, run that map for all its worth and bounce again
Someone did a huge analysis with thousands of champ bags and keeping an eye on his play time. It was figured he made like 8g/hour(iirc) but didn’t sell everything and the guess was 10g/hour if you do. That of course does not mean you’ll jump in and get 10g for an hour of playtime. It just means about average you’ll get about 10g for about an hour of SW farming. Lots of "About"s, lots of RNG.
It’s not that hard, but people here a missing a few good points imo.
1. 10g/h is from farming chest, not doing event.
2. People don’t factor in the time it takes to get the key/bandit crest
3. As defiling treekiller said, the chest per hour is around 75-85, follow the tag and grab the chest, once the train slows down, change map.
Now the most important point of all, and no one mentionned it: OPEN THE BAGS ON A LVL 53!!! That’s where the money come from.
If you open the bags on a lvl 53, you get linen, platinum and hard wood logs, wich sell for way more than mithril, silk and elder wood log. So basically, you farm the bags on your lvl 80, send the bags to your lvl 53, open all the bags, salvage everything that is not rare/exotic (you sell those) and sell all the mats you get. Now before people start ranting about not getting exotic stuff and t6 if you open on a 53, yes you still get those even if you open on a lvl 53. The level of the item(gear) you receive when you open the chest is based on your character level EXEPT exotic gear, the level of the mats you get from opening a chest is based on the rarity of the chest(in that case it’s an exotic chest).
I farmed sw for a while (had 3k bags at on point) from what I gathered, I earned 10g per 100 bags while doing the method I mentioned BUT I was keeping the t6 (making a legendary atm). If you sell the T6 the income could be higher.
It’s also the best way to get obsidian shard if you even need those for something
First thing you need to do is define a day’s worth of playtime.
:) And… technically… it’s always day somewhere on earth…
80g is definitely possible but you need 7-8 hours for that and for me, personally, it’s incredibly inefficient and a huge waste of time.
As Notsoperky already mentioned, I’d rather work 8 1/2 hours, be productive and earn way more gold that way instead of pressing ctrl and interact all day long.
Protip: get a mcjob and you will get 80g a day, plus some booty perhaps ever month
I am unsure of the exact amount of gold you make, since your wealth from Silverwastes comes in many different forms…. but you can easily make 80g in a 24/hr period in my experiences.
Here are some tips
Always open the locked chests that other players have exposed.
Keep moving…. tag events and leave, but make sure they will not fail without you.
Keep 25 keys on you when you leave the pact encampment.
…and keep 5 extractors.
Here is my rotation:
First things first, make sure you always have at least 25 bandit keys and 5 extractors on you… and leave the pact encampment, heading Northwest out of the camp toward Indigo Cave.
Escort the pack bull part of the way to ensure you get credit for the event and it will complete successfully.
When you get to Indigo Cave, several different things can be happening.
If the fort is under attack, kill one mob, and you have already secured your rewards for completing the event. The pack bull for the Blue Oasis leaves from Indigo, so make sure you assist, ensuring credit for that event also. If you time it right, you can pull some of the foes from the Indigo Cave defense event while protecting the pack bull to speed things up a bit. If the fort is not under attack, make sure you turn in some rubble quickly… the event ends very soon and if you are alone it can be a challenge to complete, so if there are only a handful of folks doing this event, make sure you turn in 3-4 pieces of rubble before moving on. There can be a veteran spawn north of Indigo cave also, so make sure you tag it if it is up.
SW gives great MF boosts, and if you are boosting your MF through food boosters bonfires, banners, etc…. (in addition to the buffs you get just from doing events on the map) it is 100% worth it to kill some of the dust mites north of indigo cave, since they can drop charged lodestones…. and I don’t think you can boost your MF any higher anywhere else in the game.
Make sure you kill at least 3 dust mites/twisters before you move on.
After tagging the events at indigo, continue to escort the Blue Packbull to the Blue Oasis, since it is on the way and it helps ensure completion of the event.
When you are in range of the Blue Oasis, if it is under attack, defeat one foe and move on…. and if it is not under attack, turn in the rubble, following the same plan as you did with indigo. Again, a veteran mordrem foe can spawn as an additional event just south of Blue Oasis, so make sure you pass by that location on your way to Amber.
If you have any shovels, break them out as you head south to Amber Sandfall, there are several locations where the buried locked chests can be found along this route.
If you are lucky, you will see a veteran mordrem event just before reaching Amber Sandfall. Same as with the other forts, kill one foe for defense completion credit, or turn in rubble, and begin making your way east to the Red Rock Bastion.
Along the way, you will see the yellow pack bull heading to where you just came from, so make sure you assist with that for credit, and just before arriving at Red Rock Bastion, swing a little bit toward Indigo cave, to tag indigo cave’s other pack bull. event.. If you time things right, you can usually end up cleaving foes from both the Red Rock defend event, and the indigo pack bull event. Defeat any veteran mordrem events that might be up, and make your way back east to the pact encampment where you started.
Assist the Red pack bull when you see it….
On the way to the encampment and even inside of it, make sure you take out your shovels and open any locked chests that might be nearby.
Buy more keys so that you have 25 of them again, and start the entire thing over again.
When a breach is about to happen, make sure you have your experimental extractors and that you use them for each subterranean foe you defeat. You will ALWAYS make a profit on crests if you wait to turn in the part until the collector wants it.
Start at Blue Oasis, and stay there till the boss is just about dead, and then head for indigo. With a little luck, you can get credit for the Indigo kills, and if Red is really slow and you are really lucky you can get that reward also after leaving indigo.
After that, complete the vinewrath event… start in the first lane to increase your chances of being able to defeat another champion after the Tracked status effect expires (it prevents you from fighting all three bosses in a row), and after defeating the first champ, head to the third lane. …and make sure you use your extractors again for every champ you fight.
After the vinewrath event completes, follow the zerg that always kills the three champs on the southern half of the map (champ wolf, champ vine, champ leeching thrasher) and head into the underground maze. Open the greater nightmare chest as many times as you have keys, and waypoint back to the encampment.
Clear your inventory, salvage all the rares you got for ectoplasm, turn in any mordrem parts that the collector wants (you get more crests for turning in the parts he wants, and you should just hold onto all parts until he wants them) Head to the crest collector, buy more extractors and keys, and with whatever crests you have left over, at the very bottom of the second tab, buy all of the Bags of Stolen Goods you can, and sell them on the trading post (or open them if you are a gambling man).
After you have done all of this, use the LFG tool to move to a new map… the closer to the breach, the better. Most of the loot comes from the breach+vinewrath end event, so the more often you can you can do that…. the more you make money.
Hope this helps you in your quest for phat loot.

Are you counting your mats? If you hit a lot of events, chest trains, and such you will get a bunch of exotics. Say the number of ectos/exotic is 1. After each of my runs I wind up with several rares, which then get salvaged. Maybe, call it 200, ectos is unrealistic but there are all those other mats.
Think of it like a boss train that never ends. I laugh when a daily has SW events because I always wind up getting credit there for events I did not even realize I was in!
I am not sure I would spend my entire Saturday trying to get 80g though. While that sounds like a lot it is in the range of 8 USD. When you think of it in real world money that is like a large latte in an expensive coffee shop. I would prefer to play to have fun and not stress too much over how much gold I have: if I need more I can just buy it with gems.
Just wanted to say TheBlackLeech.9360 is really awesome. A very thoughtful and complete post. I wish more people would do this.
Funny, i made 84g today farming sw, i got a buttload of t6 materials and way too many stardust bows and carapace boots, its not that hard to get gold these days but you gotta know how to use the tp, just randomly selling stuff is for simpletons :p
Anyone who says this is full of bs. maybe if they say " hey lets combine what i can make in a total of 24 hours of gaming" then maybe. no1 will make that in their playtime unless they play for just that… 24hours straight. but even then i takes to time to farm crests tp buy keys. granted each chest will gie u ~3 crest back making only 2 crests per chest. but still. there is prep time. then waiting for shovels. no body gets this much.,
That it relies on selling the mats means I never make jack.
I need those things, man. :-(
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.
It’s one of those great lies, like making loads of gold off the TP by just flipping anything. It’s super easy!
It is pretty easy. You buy something/craft something then put it up for sale. A week later you get a massive windfall. Unless the markets horribly shift against you. So easy but unreliable.
Don’t do the maze unless you have tons of keys for the big chest, don’t do chestfarm, don’t do vinewrath. just jump from breach to breach. 3 yellows + bags for 3-5 minutes. salvage them, sell the ectos. looking at the prizes being at about 39s per ecto though, I wouldn’t sell them until they get back to about 42-43

I said flipping, not crafting. You know, buy stuff from players who sell to high bidder and then sell the same stuff to other players who buy from the lowest seller.

Now the most important point of all, and no one mentionned it: OPEN THE BAGS ON A LVL 53!!! That’s where the money come from.
This probably nails it best. At the heighdays of linen, you could make out like a bandit if you could be bothered to farm it hard.
And on a sidenote, I am always baffled about the comment of the hard working guy type, or even worse the slick manager type responses about getting a job in the fast food industry instead of farming in the SW if you want the gold, thereby answering a question no one has ever asked here and completely missing the point if this or that farm method is possible. I am pretty sure that the large majority of people that wonder if the claim of farmers is plausible have jobs to sustain themselves and are just curious. So it is just Ivory Tower snobery at it´s finest in Marie Antoinette style here:
“So they have no bread? Why don´t they eat cake?”.

Hi
I just sent you some PMs with detailed stuff of what I do.

Huh.. Are you saying it does not work?
I have returned to GW2 after 1+ year of pause.
I have 2-3 hours / day for the game.
I want to gather enough gold for 640 crystals for the Living Story package (~110 gold).
What is the wisest/fastest way to get them?
Silverwastes? Dungeons? World bosses?
I can make 240g+ a day with chopping wood .. IF i play 24 hours.
Always use gold per hour .. per day says nothing if you don’t also say how many
hours you play.
And yeah .. people often brag with big numbers that don’t really fit with the
reality .. like 30-50g per hour or whatever. That could happen because of a
lucky drop but is far from normal reality.
Are you counting your mats? If you hit a lot of events, chest trains, and such you will get a bunch of exotics.
Like that one .. from the last 300 bags i’ve open i have gotten ONE exotic.

I made around 60-110(lucky!) each time. I salvage and sell the materials and things I get which is how i get all the gold. I hope that helps.
Yeah of course you did.. a few hours – more like a whole day.
Even with salvaging everything and selling everything you wouldn’t even come close to half what your claiming in few hours.
Wakey, wakey, rise and shine time to come back to reality for a whiles
80g a day is very possible. While it can flux from run to run a 8 hour day pulling in 80g is very possible. I would honestly say closer to 90-100.
I myself have seasonal work so I find myself with a unfortunately annoying amount of free time. I have spent 12 hours doing SW and pulled out around 203g. BUT this is not just pure selling of drops/salvaged items. I use a bit of mats to make items via crafting.
On average in SW of about 8-10 hours I can make 150-180g(RNG pending) There was a few times. Not many but a couple where in a day I pulled 300g doing SW. These were about 14-16 or so hours of doing SW(hour break to go to a bike ride. Gota stay in shape =D)
The thing with SW though is you have several chances to get items such as Pres and the elusive Preserved Queen Bee(Got 1 during my 2 week face kitten of SW)

This is indeed how it works with lots people. They always use the highest ever occurance as an example.
If they have managed once to get 50g from 1 hour of chest farm, they will claim that it is always 50g/hour rate.
If they have managed get one 1 skill hit of 7000 damage, they will claim that their 1 skill always hits 7000 damage.
If they do 17000 dps on Tequatl burn phase, they will claim that their dps is always 17000.
Averages and different situations are impossible for some to understand.

So I recently looted 1000 bandit chests (over a few days) and I got approximately 120 gold from just opening the “embroidered coin purse”. I pretty much threw all green and yellow items into the mystic toilet and came out with 13 exotics (highest value was 4 gold).
If you do a chest run, you’re looking at 10-15 gold per 100 chests. That’s my guess

coin purses drop 1-10s each, and it doesn’t average 5. even at an outlier figure of 10s per bag, 1000 bags would only net you 100g.

The first time I did the SW I was SUPER lucky so maybe they are referring to that?
First I tagged a legendary without realizing it, it was just another monster to me, albeit a big one. Boom, title.
Not knowing about the VW event I ran down there because I could see a big circle on the map. I did not even go inside but killed a monster outside. Boom, I got the big chest inside because everyone was running there (I did not know about the 4 little ones near it or the champ train).
All in all, a great gain with minimal effort and time. If I knew about the 4 little chests and the train I could have made more. If I had extrapolated all that out to 8 hours it would sound impressive As much as I like playing the SW though (my ranger just LOVES it) I would go crazy if I farmed it for 8 hours straight.
As I said before, if I was doing it for the gold I may as well save myself the pain (maybe, yknow, play a variety of regions, enjoy the day or read a book) and buy some gems to convert as 1$/hour barely buys me a diet coke. I am sure most people that can afford a game have that much discretionary income. Selling mats is where it is at though. Any time my gold balance dips too low I just sell off some ecto or a rarely used mat.

Doh! Bad typo! Bad! I meant rares when I said about exotics. You will get exotics as drops now and then though but I never salvage those (side note: you will get them in the rest of Tyria as well). Even level 80s average 2 or 3 gold so you may as well keep it unless it is a dup of something or you really want the mats you only get from them.
I typically get a rare about every event or two when I am going through what I got it the last SW run. Rares are certainly where it is at for salvaging though unless it is something super-good. Usually an ecto (or more if you are lucky) and depending on the market those are around 40s each. The major sigil is another 3 or 4s. Any other mats (especially t6s) are a bonus.

Sorry no that’s not what i meant, i meant i got 120 gold from all the items etc. from opening the 1000 coin purses. That includes all the mats and items I got. The silver you get from opening one is included in that amount. I understand I may not have been clear enough
It’s been mentioned already but the important point I usually see people miss about making gold from Silverwastes (or any other type of champ/bag farming) is that you need to know, at least roughly, what all the items salvage into and what those materials are worth. Then you sell everything that’s worth more than the mats (on the TP, never to a merchant), salvage everything else (with an appropriate kit based on the item) and sell the materials too. Basically at the end of it you have nothing extra on your account except the gold and maybe some luck.
If you don’t mind making slightly less profit you can do the easier route of selling everything on the TP that is going for more than the merchant price and salvaging everything else.
That’s what I do and even then I can make 3-5 gold (more if I’m lucky) from the event chain, which takes about an hour on a good day.
If you have to work 8 hours to make 80 gold in a game, you may as well move to China and join the gold farmers…
Even at UK minimum wage, you could earn £60 in that time and buy around 6000 gems, convert those to gold..or just work a couple hours then go play something you enjoy rather than grinding out some pixels.
Even 10 gold an hour works out at slave labour..
This sounds great on paper but I doubt it works out well in practice for the majority of people.
In my experience relatively few people have jobs where they can simply choose to do a few hours overtime as and when they feel like it. It has to be when there’s extra work needing to be done and someone is willing to pay you whatever your over-time rate is to do it. (In my case it’s pretty impossible to get overtime in the winter because my field is a lot quieter then. I might work weekends and get extra holiday as compensation, but over time is only in the summer and usually limited to 1 or 2 evenings a month.)
So then there’s the option of getting a second job. I find it hard to believe that even people who have never worked a part-time job believe you can simply show up as and when you feel like it, work for however long you want and then leave until next time you decide you want some extra cash. If you try that they’ll fire you the first (second if you’re lucky) time you don’t turn up to a shift and hire any of the dozens of other people who want that job. No, like any other job you work the hours they tell you when they tell you to do them.
So unless you want about 300-400g a week or more (very rough estimate based on UK minimum wage working 4 hours a week, which is about the minimum I’ve ever seen available) and really hate farming it’s just not worth the hassle.
If I wake up on a Saturday morning and decide I want some extra gold I’d much rather jump into Silverwastes for a few hours, which I actually enjoy and can do right away, in my pyjamas while eating breakfast and maybe watching TV than go looking for a part time job so that in a couple of weeks (allowing time for applying, getting hired, doing the work and the pay check to clear) I’ll have the money to buy whatever it is I wanted.

10-15g (if its per hour) sounds reasonable. But that is in fact more or less what i can
also get with harvesting mats and there i don’t have to follow a train, can make my
break whenever i want and so on .. so thats why i prefer that

I have farmed Silverwastes a lot and my experience is I get around 10g an hour, chest farm or events doenst make a big difference. + – 3 gold if ur lucky or not. IF ur lucky chest farm can easily skyrocket to 20g an hour, but not for me on average. in my eyes its also really important to do the maze. if u farm like 2 extra keys in the time its open and get 200/200 its like an extra gold or 2 from the 3 guaranteed rares and champion bags extra. all in all the best time/money thing ive found in this game, besides farming trick or treat bags, but that is killing my brain. chestfarm, too, but a round or two every other day i can endure

Something that not much people talk about. Silverwaste drop mostly crafting material. That’s where the money come from. After almost a year of farming in silverwaste, these crafting material are just dropping and dropping in price. We used to do 15-20 gold per hour on average there. But not anymore. We had a lot of drop research in the first months of silverwaste, but not a lot since. It would be interesting to do the exercise.
One thing is sure SW is fastest way make gold in this game. If you get bored SW you can go make gold eotm, cursed shore, dungeons and many other way.
Do you work at the moment? The point I was making is that from a time point of view, it makes no sense to do something utterly boring for an 8 hour stretch when you could just use some of your hard earned to buy the gems/gold and go and do something fun instead.
And there are plenty of ways even people on minimum wage can budget to buy gems and not waste time grinding out pixels- but you’re right, most people won’t. But then they will go out on a Friday and spend £100 drinking themselves senseless over 3-5 hours…
So this is the reason why the events always fail and people jump from map to map…. well, you all obviously just exploit the reward system, don’t care about the event objectives, get your dirty money and go to another map. bleh…enjoy i guess

Oh my gods. This. So much this.
