Silverwastes - HoT portals dropping a lot!
Nope. Day seven now, or is it eight – I forget (it all blurs together now) – of farming SW for hours and hours and no portal drop.
Also, rng is rng. “shrug”

Same. Just—one —-more--event. I can do it!
This is how the Joker went mad O-O.
Of course not, lol. Beta testers were paid before. Nowadays people pay, or grind, for the chance to be a beta tester.
Get a staff of beta testers and pay them, I’m not doing it for free for you.
They do internal beta tests. The idea behind all this is to encourage people to play in the new zones with a slight chance to get a key. Nobody is forcing anyone to “grind” for one. If people force themselves to play just for the sake of getting access then that’s their fault, not the developers.

Internal beta tests are never enough, as is proven again and again. Which is why just about every game out there has gamer beta testers.
As to forcing… well, I agree, no one’s putting a gun to your head. But for those of us who actually LIKE beta testing and those who’d like a sneak peak, it easily becomes a grind. As for me, the attempts at getting a portal have completely burned me out of the SW. Again.
None for me. I see some people get stacks. But…my rng is horrible, and always has been.
55 hrs into the grind it dropped in the bonus chest for escorting supply from Red to Amber, My wife got hers after about 30hrs from a random devourer she killed south of Indigo.
They’re out there but for those of us who are hated by the RNG you really have to put the time in. On the bright side I got about 225 shovels and 5k crests so i’m off to get even more dragonite I will never need!

Thanks to this thread I hopped in much earlier than usual. Got two portals inside ten minutes, and several other people got them around the same time per map chat links.

I got mine after days and days of trying (close to 50 hours or so). My RNG seems to favor a lot of charged crystals, lol. After nearly a week of trying, I changed things up and instead of staying in any one map for an extended period of time, I started switching maps every 20 to 30 minutes. My drops did improve a lot overall and on my third switch I got the portal killing a small mordrem wolf during a Clear Out the Mordrem Threat event in the Silverwastes. I am not sure if what I did actually helped but I feel it might have improved my RNG enough to get the portal. I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Nobody is forcing you to play the game in the first place, therefore grind does not exist in any game.
Makes me wonder if people who have been farming SW all this time without a portal drop had done Dry Top instead, would they have gotten a portal already. I haven’t seen anything that says the drop rate of portals from events and enemies being different so they probably would have had better luck doing Dry Top which offers more chances for one getting dropped.
I did mostly SW and some Dry Top…I now hate both zones lol (over 70 hours, no portal drops but a ton of other stuff I have little interest in).

Diminishing returns by staying in one area for a longer period of time could one of the reasons some folk are not seeing portals. Better chance would be not staying long enough on either map to let it kick in to any exent…..
I never said anything about “forcing”. Please stop making words up.
Yes you did. Go re-read your own post. Old and forgetful? (That’s usually my excuse)

But is it entirely their fault? After all, the developers (and most game developers for the last decade) are the ones who have turned public betas into PR stunts, making players think they’re just happy fun-times with exclusive early-access content, rather than actual tests. People can only make decisions based on what they perceive, and the gaming industry has twisted the general perception of public beta testing into something far different than what it actually is.

Agreed, you can’t put the blame entirely on the players.
People get addicted to drugs but it’s their fault, right?
People lose their money in casinos but it’s their fault, right?
Yes, a person who is fat because of no self control and eats McD’s 3 times a day is to blame, just as much as the people with gambling, drinking, drug, or any other addictive behavior that is literally up to them to control.

Same here and I have not gotten a portal. I have seen many linked though and although I will come back to it someday I am through for now. If anet doesn’t e-mail me with an invite I’ll just sit this one out. It is frustrating, but I am sure reddit and these forums will be rampant with threads concerning it.
To those of you with the RNG gods on their side, have fun for those of us that were not so lucky.

There’s really no point in “grinding” them anyways~ I’ve been farming the SW as I have been before beta keys cuz I need gold~ I’d like the beta drop too but it’s simply not happening so far. If I did it nonstop to where it takes over my whole day it still wouldn’t matter because when it comes to RNG; grinding simply doesn’t matter. If you’re not lucky then it doesn’t matter how much time you put into it because the outcomes been decided already. This is why I hate RNG in general. Time and Effort =/= Reward.
I’ve farmed many hours but I’m not letting it take over my entire day, otherwise it just becomes even more frustrating than it already is.
