Silverwastes: Rules of Engagement

Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
You should listen this music and then start to shoveling all around Silverwastes
I am shuffling …. errr… Shoveling
Monday shoveling, tuesday shoveling… you got it.
Great guide! Pretty much sums it up.
Especially rule number 5 is very close to my heart because I am usually that silly person.
Rule 10: Open an pleonastic thread at forum and name it Silverwastes: Rules of Engagement. After that giggle free times about the fact what funny genius you are and feel good about it. After all go back to holy dry top

So I’ve finally decided to get my tail out of Dry Top and spend some time in Silverwastes. After a couple of weeks of careful observation, I think I’ve finally figured out the Rules of Engagement for the map.
1. Do NOT keep the signal fire lit.
2. Do NOT use the siege.
3. Do NOT protect the siege or anyone using the siege.
4. Do NOT anticipate attacks and have people stationed by a torch and the siege, ready to spring into action.
5. Should some silly person actually use an oil pot, do everything possible to keep the poor mordrem from being burned horribly. Keep the fights out of range of the oil and knock back any poor foe that manages to blunder into it. They will thank you for it, and the silly person will shortly stop bothering them as per rule 3, when the silly person and the pot are destroyed.
6. Should a fort offer arrow carts or cannons, do NOT use them to provide any sort of cover fire for rubble collection or for pack bulls leaving the fort. Should you happen to have a torch in your hand when an attack ends, drop it immediately lest you accidentally light the signal fire to provide cover for the group collecting rubble.
7. Should a pack bull be dispatched to resupply your fort, there are two choices. Either everyone must leave the fort to escort the bull or no one must leave the fort to escort the bull. Under the first option, should the fort come under attack while everyone is escorting the bull (which is almost certain to happen), no one must leave the bull.
8. When a skritt burglar appears, all bets are off. Everyone drop everything to nail that sucker.
Did I cover everything, or can you experienced Silverwasters fill me in on the points I missed?
Sarcastic and to the point. Well done and I agree.
Funny enough, I still see SW as the most cooperative map even though there’s still lots of running around like headless chickens.
I must admit I am one of those that usually do not touch any of defensive items and only fight Mordrem. Thruth be told, I never bothered to educate myself of all those options. But I will improve, that’s a promise.
But I also think Anet could better explain these mechanics and especially rewards a player gets for doing different things. It’s like with Tequatl. Many believe you get less rewards for support than you get for active combat. And it could be the same with SW.
I often find myself looking at pack bull leaving the fort and no one going after it to defend it. So, I decide to be the one to do it. But, I find myself thinking “Would I get a shovel if I stayed behind and helped defend the fort from the attack that is bound to happen in a minute or two?”. And this could be a part of the problem for players constantly jumping from one fort to another. Rewards are not the same and the most important reward, a shovel, is mostly gained when one defends a fort. At least that’s the general feeling among players. So, many simply ignore those pesky bulls that don’t seem to learn anything and always follow the same path to doom.
I wasn’t at silverwaste for a moment and such things happened?
last time I was doign meta-event there the only “rule of engagement” was "pickup your objective capture it and use any means possible to keep it alive untill cavalry arrives…
[and also second one was to not be dumb person and make sure that all 3 paths are covered after the breach]
“-and on this occasion I keep mine plate armors”
discussion about offensive/deffensive playstyles
Signal fires? Torches? Rubble? Eh, what is this stuff?
No, this isn’t a sarcastic post. I don’t know anything about signal fires, torches, or rubble. What is this and how does it work?
11. When a Legendary appears, make sure everyone everyone loses their mind and chases after it, so the fort it is next to is overrun and taken by the Mordrem.

I think there’s some sort of minigames in-between the Chestfarm events.
Save the Bell Choir activity!

Actually, this topic is not about Silverwastes, it is about human stereotypes. As such it is already out in the wild and everything is in vain anyways.

And don’t drag the legendary under the oil, even though it does 100k+ damage per tick :p
As for Dry Top being “holy”, I promise you that my “Dry Top: Rules of Engagement” would be even more pointed.
I agree that the rewards are not well balanced. You DO get dinged on participation for using siege, often only getting bronze or silver credit for the event. You also forgo what little loot does drop from mobs, like t6 mats. These problems really need to be addressed, since those who are properly using siege and keeping the signal fire lit are making a solid contribution to the defense.
ANet has apparently been trying to train us to use siege for a while now, but not doing too swift a job of it. Not just in SW. For example, they changed the event at the logging camp outside Fort Trinity. There is an arrow cart there now and many more mobs to eliminate. But the ac is rarely used. When it is used, nobody thinks to watch the back of the operator or to draw fights out from behind the tank to where the ac can hit them. But, heck, the problem even exists in WvW, where you can stuff a tower full of expensive siege and see the defenders totally ignore it despite the devastating damage it does.

You tease!
Seriously, I’d love to read those, even if I have to say that so far I have luckily only seen a few of your Silverwastes rules practiced to any noticeable extent, and even then not consistently. It was frustrating enough, so I appreciate this thread. :-)
Rofl. Brett, you really did have me giggling. Can we petition Anet for a map/shard exclusive for people that have some kitten idea what they’re doing? The siege thing is the one that really annoys me. Those cauldrons burn the Mordrem down so fast it’s ridiculous. But no… 5 players will fight the latest spawn outside of the range, without ever thinking to draw them under the kitten thing… Etcetera.
I know you know what I mean. And I’m usually the bloke quietly swearing at the idiots & incompetents ignoring the nice burn patches I’m dropping… Other players, eh?

I only killed the Slingers, Smashers, and Bashers with tons of conditions, am I in violation of the rules?
Also, you may want to add that if a player is laying down TONS of condi fields, please save the poor mordrem by using point blank shot or firing cannons at them!

Defend events last long enough that you should have no problem finishing the escort and still have time to run back to tag the escort. Assuming not a mesmer …

Using cannons violate rule 6 :p
12. Do NOT Waypoint out when defeated during a Vinewrath champion fight. Your presence offers moral support.
13. Do NOT under any circumstance revive fallen players. Be helpful and inform them of the Waypoint system in the game.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
14.Hunters must use rapid fire on non-champs to ensure no one else can tag the event.
15.Hunters must knock enemies out of AoE fields.
16.Hunters must never use rapid fire when a combo field is up on a champion or greater, because who wants to stack lots of sweet poison on it?
17.You must not rez anyone.
18.You must never destroy the flowers, because who wants to stay safe from the AoE field?
19.You must focus on the big tanky husks instead of the trolls or teagarrifs with knockdowns, cheap charges that has a terrible hitbox, and homing attacks (both have it) that somehow manage to ignore stealth.
