Silverwastes vs Tarir
IMO Tarir has a higher failure rate, just because it has a higher coordination requirement.

Don’t open all the chests.
Get as many characters In the area you can the next time you win the event, and make sure they all have sufficient keys, Then, the next time you win, you run your first character through and grab just the grand chests, then log off and log on your next character, etc just grabbing the grand chests.
As long as you log your character on and off in the chest area when its open after a map meta event is complete, they won’t be forced out of the area between then and the next time you log them on. So you can have multiple characters farming the grand chests each time there’s a victory, and if its a failure, you might be inclined to farm the great chests instead.
You might want to make sure you are in a group so that when you log other characters on if you end up in a map instance that failed, you can quickly right click and join to map. It’s usually pretty easy as people start leaving the map after they farm their chests, so it shouldn’t be locked for you to move in there. I’ve been doing this for a while and I’m getting a crap ton of loot.
I dunno, you can get a tremendous amount of loot from the chests. I keep running out of bag space after the Tarir event (though, granted, I’ve mostly run the meta-event on my Revenant who only has like 80 slots). I also find the Tarir event way more fun than Silverwastes, though to be fair that’s probably more of a novelty thing anyway. And finally, don’t forget that you get Maguuma mastery XP from Tarir and Central Tyria XP from the Silverwastes, so that should also factor into your calculations.

I dunno, I find myself getting way more than enough aurilium just from running the meta to open every single chest. I’ve actually started holding off on buying keys just to make sure I don’t end up with too many (I’m saving up Piles of Auric Dust for an Exalted Pistol for my Engi).

This is sorely tempting but I gotta say, I’m reaaaally reluctant to risk losing the map.
I main Ele and Necro, though I have an alt of each profession at level 80.

Right now, Silverwastes is easier for people because everyone who goes there understands the requirements. Folks are still learning HoT maps and (more importantly) those who understand HoT maps haven’t yet realized that teaching newcomers before the event will increase the chance of success.
