Every time i ask for some changes about more skills or more GW1 like contend i
get the same answer.
“GW2 is not GW1 get used to it”
Well… i guess i have to live with that. But how comes that we get the lukewarm
stuff recycled from GW1 presented as something game changing……

An example you ask ?

GW1 Eye of the North:
-Dragon pops up, having minions destroying the country.
-Group of people who could fight them have no interest being involved
-You bond group to fight the Dragon
-Defeat it

rings a bell ?????

GW2 Zaithan main story

-Dragon pops up, having minions destroying the country.
-Group of people who could fight them have no interest being involved
-You bond group to fight the Dragon
-Defeat it
Difference: lowering the quality of the journey to bond the group

GW2 Living Story 2

-Dragon pops up, having minions destroying the country.
-Group of people who could fight them have no interest being involved
-You bond group to fight the Dragon
-Defeat it
Difference: Lowering the quality of bonding the Group even more.
Push a Totem over by clicking a text box, grab sword parts out of rubble beside a house using a text box………….. to make a group coming together to fight.

This is so incredible sad for a GW1 veteran it’s not even funny.
If you guys insist to be different from GW1 please keep your hands of it.
What awesome stuff we get from GW2 was showing when Scarlet was on.

I hope you realize that Eye of the North was supposed to be the prequel to GW2. Primordus was introduced to show what you would be doing in GW2 = hunting the Elder Dragons. That was not stealing, it was paving the way as an introduction to GW2. Get your facts straight.

I guess you missed the point of repeating the same story over and over again.
They can have 2567 Dragons in GW2 announced by GW1.
I really don’t care.
The sad thing is the story repeating.

Yes…. i agree.
Even in Dragon Age they always fight the same guys.
But for god sakes they write different storys.
And i actually turned it on again after not playing it for years.
It was super refreshing how much fun a game can be and how well the storys are told.

I guess we could ask the dragons to go away so we could fight something else, bandits maybe.

At any rate, 2 years in, why even bother to make a post complaining about fighting dragons in a game that is specifically based on fighting dragons that are threatening the world? It’s pointless.

It is not fighting the Dragons……
It is repeating the same story again and again with constantly lowering the quality of the story.
Eye of the North wasn’t really a brand new story but it was super fun because of the journey you did to bond the groups.

In GW2 the canceled all the cool stuff.
I really don’t mind fighting Dragons but seriously write a new story for every Dragon

Like what? You can’t hardly solo fight an elder dragon (not realistically). That means each one has to involve getting a group together and finding out where it is and how to combat it. In every group of people, there are some that don’t believe in the threat or have other things to fight.

Wait, I thought everyone wanted GW2 to be more like GW1? Because apparently GW1 is a vastly superior game.

On topic:

Almost every fantasy story follows the same themes. A young person, through a rather unfortunate series of events, find out that they are “the chosen one”/have a special power or ability, must fulfill their destiny, etc. And in doing that, they go on their adventures, and find out, as special as thy are, they need to team up with a group of people in order to defeat an evil overlord/big bad evil guy, and in doing so they find out that said evil guy was being controlled/manipulated/worked for a more evil power/demon/sorcerer/really bad guy. But they soon find that their team is not enough so they must band a bigger army to fight them. Of course in the process of doing so, they have a bout with insecurity/weakness/temptation/bad hair day and must overcome it to continue. And in the end the good guys win, and the bad guy gets banished/destroyed/killed/consumed by his own evil, etc.

The point is that there are several fantasy tropes that are very often used in fantasy stories. It’s not copying and reducing the quality, it’s using a theme that is very familiar to the player/reader to tell a story in a way that the player/reader can relate to and understand. There are VERY few writers who were able to steer away from some of the more cliche tropes, but even then they still have some of the main elements that are present in any type of story telling.

OP what are you so upset about, please tell us

Are you upset about the story? Yeah it’s pretty bland if you ask me. Nothing to get riled up about though.

Or do you want the game to be more like GW1? Yeah there are a lot of nice features I wish we still had, but this is not GW1, so we don’t have them, and this is likely to continue.

So it looks like you just don’t like the story, which is fair; the story is boring. But, I don’t really see what’s the big deal.

My Point is that GW1 was able to deliver tons of different bad guys even having Glinth
around.
I also don’t understand why we stick with the dragons so badly.
They are sleeping. Why no create another story like Rurik or Shiro or whatever and come back with an epic Dragon when we least expect it.
It can’t be that difficult.

I can imagine Living story 3

-Dragon pops up, having minions destroying the country (This time color scheme yellow or whatever flavor of the month)
-Group of people who could fight them have no interest being involved
-You bond group to fight the Dragon
-Defeat it

Textbox from random leader: Dragons and minons appeared.
-Screen showing the dragon
-Text box asking for group gathering, you click ok
-New Text box pops up “they don’t want”
- you clik “doesn’t matter just come together”
-Well made End Boss fight
-Chest drops with a green hammer and a blue dagger
-New backpiece available

I don’t think you’re upset about the story being repetitive and uninspired, because if you were playing to enjoy the story, you would have quit a long time ago.

From what I can gather from your first post, you are upset about this because people discourage you when you suggest features from GW1 by saying they aren’t the same game. Well, that’s just fact. The games are quite different, the underlying code is quite different, all the systems are quite different, even where they look similar to the users. It’s not as simple as just wanting to put a feature in and then doing it. And Anet is a different Anet, with different priorities and different goals.

And so what if they did kind of re-use a story that was written by someone else several years ago, and is also one of the most generic plotlines in the genre? I fail to see how that’s a valid comparison to missing features.

hmm, big evil showes up, his minions threaten the land, a group gathers and fights it. i’m pretty sure 90% of fantasy stories since lord of the rings use this. the difference are the steps to accomplish these tasks. if you dont see this, nearly every criminal story, every comedy story and every horrorstory are basically the same.

Sounds like a personal problem. I played GW1 back in the day, and I loved it, and I still play GW2, and it’s slowly finding its place in my heart as the successor. You, on the other hand, appear to have decided you don’t want to be satisfied with GW2 the way it is now (and how it will continue to evolve), and you’re letting it ruin your experience. Perhaps your appetite for new content outmatches the developers’ capacity to provide it, in which case, I would recommend you find more games to play. Nobody says you have to stop playing GW2 either… but it’s obviously not enough to keep you entertained, and there is a lot more you can do about that than Anet can.

Also, for the record, the game is far from “running into the ground,” and it’s ridiculous to claim that it is doomed if they don’t start doing things your way (as about half of the posts on the forums seem to read). GW2 is doing fine, and you can enjoy it if you want, though if you play through all the content as fast as possible, you are going to find yourself bored pretty quickly, no matter how much of it they make.

So want do you suggest instead? The dragon pops up but sends no minions? Just sits off in the distance somewhere radiating ill will? I guess it can ravage the countryside but then the landscape/cities would have to be heavily destroyed. Then rebuilt. Then destroyed again with the next dragon. Then rebuilt. Our little group of intrepid adventurers goes out to tackle an elder dragon by themselves? Without bothering to get as much support as possible? Everyone, if we did ask them, would be delighted to join in regardless of other problems they might have. We don’t bond together even after undergoing many trial and tribulations?

Factions have an epic ending where your character is treated like a kittening hero.
In GW2 our characters is on the background playing the idle animation -_-

What I mean is ArenaNet don’t have the resources (or the willingness) to do something better.

Also, GW1 was made by a total different team and some say GW2 was made by another team no longer among us.

You said what you don’t like, but haven’t said what you do.

well…. if i have to write my own storys i can make my own game.

But let’s try

The Dragons are sleeping anyways, it’s not that they are just sitting there and wait for their turn to be slaughtered.
So what about completing the map 100% and then move to Cantha and Elona.

-Example would be Elona still ruled by Palawa Joko.
Let’s say the Order of Whispers who are the only one in contact with Elona if we believe the lore, waking the interest of Palawa Joko.
He intends to expand his territory. Zaithans minions are dead and he has sees he chance.
- This would be a way to unlock crystal desert.
Epic fights going on and off, front lines going back and forth.
-We are able to push into Elona and army of millions of mummys and skeletons
-We are batteling for ressources like water or plains to plant food.
-This could have real impact on the size of our armies
-Piece by Piece we take back Elona until we cornered Palawa Joko.
-Just before the the final blow Kralkatorrik the Dragon of the Crystal desert is waken up by the ongoing war and starts rampaging our back lines until we have to pull back.
-From now on Crystal Desert and Elona are a huge battlefield until a group of heros pops up who is able to face Kalkatorrik and defeats him by a smart idea.
-Elona is still a continuing battlefield after that…………………………

I made this story up while i was typing, so it doesn’t seem to difficult to make something else than rinse and repeat.

Yeah, Dragonslayer (the movie)!!!… no wait… Flight of the Dragons!!!… no wait… Conan the Destroyer (well, was an ancient god instead of a dragon, but still)… no wait… Krull!!! (ok, ancient alien being)… no wait.. The Hobbit!!!.. no wait… Dungeons and Dragona!!.. no I got it… Record of Lodoss Wars…

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

They did it in GW1… maybe that is why i am so disappointed

That’s not my point.

I didn’t hear that it’s a different team.
Holy crap i must have been sleeping. This explains so much.
But yeah. It’s time to go back to Factions like quality i don’t think it needs so much more resources than LS

The GW1 team loved the game they created, they poured their heart into it, they would do updates on the weekends or late at night or whenever needed.

But for the GW2 team, it seems like its just a 9-5 job just to collect a check at the end of the week.

“GW2 Living Story 2
-Dragon pops up, having minions destroying the country.
-Group of people who could fight them have no interest being involved
-You bond group to fight the Dragon
-Defeat it
Difference: Lowering the quality of bonding the Group even more.”

It also includes something players wanted most.

Or did you mean The Wheel of Time series? Chronicals of Narnia? Or the Odyssey? Or many of the Greek/Roman myths? Or the battle of Thermopylae? What about WW2? WW1?

All these share the same theme/story. A small group/single person needs to convince/band together to fight off a greater evil. Whether it be dragons/gods/evil power or whatever. The theme is still the same. Thats not really ever going to change.

Yeah, your story has a few problems with it though.

First, the Crystal Desert is not only occupied by Palawa Joko but also by Zhaitan (formerly) and Kralkatorrik. (With Zhaitan, it’s a bit tricky since though the world is changing due to LS, Orr and stuff still has Risen)

Second, Joko has ambitions to take Elona, not Tyria. If he ever sets his sights north into Tyria proper, then he’ll likely have already taken Elona over and found a way to combat and push pass or defeat Kralkatorrik.

It is easy to make a different story from fighting dragons, but less so when you take into account other facts.

Also, like others have stated before, fighting dragons was not something we did in GW1. The Great Destroyer, though in the image of a dragon, was not a dragon. We fought a Lich, a bodyguard assassin, and a fallen god in the three campaigns of GW1.

In Guild Wars 1 Eye Of The North, you fight The Great Destroyer, it is a destroyer and not a dragon but it is the general of Primordus who appear’s to awaken after we defeat it (The Great Destroyer).

The thing about the difference in Guild Wars 1 to Guild Wars 2 is the lore. GW1 has a beautiful and rich lore and its something that all the Gw1 players tought it could be in Guild Wars 2, but for the time being, the only thing we’ve getting is “new” lore and the great lore of Gw1 is somewhat post aside.

And that is what you feel about the difference in the journey and adventure on killing the main antagonist of Guild Wars 2. It’s not new and everybody knows that Gw1 was better than Gw2 in terms of lore

Meh, it’s kind of the thing heroes do. Look at commander Shepard in Mass Effect. That’s what he did too, bring races together to fight a common big bad.

Yes…. i agree.
Even in Dragon Age they always fight the same guys.
But for god sakes they write different storys.
And i actually turned it on again after not playing it for years.
It was super refreshing how much fun a game can be and how well the storys are told.
But this is another topic

A dragon didn’t pop up in GW1, no one in lore told the player about a elder dragon. We didn’t fight a dragon.

lol what ????

Have you ever played Eye of the North ??
The dwarf chamber ? The great Destroyer ???

Yes it’s not Primordus but it’s still a Dragon

Its not a dragon its a destroyer

Your are telling me this is not a Dragon ??

yup

The Great Destroyer was the champion of Primordus. Just like Teqalt is the champion of Zaithan and Shatterer the champion of Kralkatorik.
Also he had the look of a dragon.

Guild wars 1 is full of Dragons.

Rot Scale
Shinny
Kuwalavange(or how ever you spell it.)
Glint
Glints child
Sea spray dragons.
They are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
