Q:
Simple question: No more dungeons coming?
There are some persistent rumours that GW2 is working on an expansion. If we get one of those I bet we get new dungeons.
Didn’t they disband the dungeon team and are now looking for someone who knows about raids?
I would not expect any new dungeons in the same form we’ve seen in the next year or two.

This is correct.
They say “Nothing is off the table”, but “Nothing is on the table” is just as true. They just expect us to take their word for it that there’s even a table at all, when signs suggest there isn’t.
So far as we know, there’s no more dungeon team, and nothing in the works for dungeons. If you want new dungeons, your best bet is to look in other games.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

They already have people who have been newly recruited for raid content as well as AI development.
Regardless

Now here’s a brain teaser, if nothing is on the table or off the table, does that mean its on the chairs? or it could be on the carpet floor in the living room, or just maybe it could be on the shelf or under the television set, THE POSSIBILITIES.
Maybe its in the medicine cabinet or outside sitting in the sandbox.
*goes into a seizure.
Part of the issue revolves around more and more MMO’s discovering that dungeons are not as widely played as perceived and that only a small portion of the playerbase commits to them regularly. A well balanced dungeon is a lot of effort to make if only a small amount of players (proprotionate to population) play it.
I understand that philosophy…I don’t necessarily agree with it though. Or at least putting them to one side entirely. Just because a low number proportionatly play something, doesn’t mean the target audience should be narrowed.
Now, part of this is speculation on my part. MMO’s like Lotro boomed on dungeons, then after realising the effort wasn;t worth it, decided to scrap any further dungeons. Wildtsar’s marketing of its instances also hasn’t paid off for the same reason. IS this why Anet has cooled off on dungeons? Probably. But, it does have a healthy number already in place and that may be in part what they are taking into account.
Will they make more dungeons? I’d be utterly surprised if we didn’t see more and strong indications from the CDI (despite being shut down unnecessarily and cutting off early some really good community discussions) suggest instanced raid content is being worked on behind the scenes.

About Wildstar. In my opinion it crashed because of the business model. GW2’s one is superior (B2P), but following the trend of not so sucessful MMO Launches, Wildstar is probably going B2P or even F2P and players like me who are dungeoneers at heart might just take the bait.
This is why Im asking for confirmation on this whole “no more dungeons”, because it can be a game breaker for a lot of people I know.
The future looks dark for people who like challenging instanced content. Welcome to instanced fast food content called living story
As for dungeons in Wildstar, there are only 4 dungeons there at this time. Nothing very hard unless you want the gold medal achievements there.

I expect that they will bring out more group content but it will not be a traditional dungeon.
Essentially, the designers are not going to add new dungeons with the same easy skipping and stacking. Players want that more difficult dungeon until it actually comes to making a group to run it, and then they decide to stick to the existing speed runs. TA Aetherblade was well designed dungeon, the players weren’t interested enough in that, so the designers won’t be rushing to make similar content again.

If a dev response affirming the idea of more dungeons or conceding that there will be no more is what you seek, you will almost certainly not find it. It’s is (very!) strict Anet policy not to discuss these things unless it is about to launch. And even if they aren’t doing more dungeons (which I speculatively suspect to be false long term), there’s no way they would confirm that – it would just open up a can of worms.
It is wait and see I’m afraid.
They disbanded the dungeon team and flat out said they had no plans to work on dungeons… I don’t know how much clearer than that they can make it…

The Aetherblade dungeon was interesting, but they dropped the ball with the rewards, hiding them behind a ridiculous RNG. They don’t know how to balance the amount of time passed/reward thing, it has been going on for a while now.
And to answer the question of that thread, indeed, they said in an interview that there wouldn’t be new dungeons, that a hard mode wasn’t even considered, that kind of things.
Instanced content other than the LS one is not in their priorities, that’s for sure.
I remember a time when ANet said that they were designing a game wherein players would repeat content because it was fun. Many posters later, ANet has been disabused of that notion. Some MMO players will not repeat content without rewards, and if it takes too long to get the reward will not use that content either.
While I don’t know the numbers that data-mining shows for various dungeon use, I do know that I seldom see anyone running TA:AP. If the demographics for the one new path put in are as bad as I think they are, it would not surprise me if ANet either scrapped the idea of adding new dungeons or decided to take a different approach to elite content altogether.
Anet didn’t actually say they were not going to add new dungeons. They simply said there were no new dungeons planned for now, that it was not their focus. Just like SAB is not their focus right now but Colin confirmed it’s definitely coming back.
The short of it is we know we can’t expect any dungeons short term.
AFAIK Anet created new dungeons after the dungeon team was disbanded.

they did Twighlight Arbor Aether path.
everything else was done by the original Dungeon team. Even if it was released after they “left”
none the less.
Based upon the interview. Dungeons are not on the project list currently. they will be at a later time, Later time being entirely subjective. and based around other projects including WvW, PvP, LS etc. Fractals is more likely to see some additions in the nearer future, based on the interview simply because they are Easier to create and implement. Arena Net has Hired a Raid designer and such team. but realistically it wont be till at least Summer I would imagine before we see anything along those lines.

I might be remembering this wrong, but I don’t think the Aetherblade dungeon was done by the same team that did the dungeons pre-launch. It was a different team.
The way I see it is that Anet isn’t making dungeons often enough to dedicate a team for that specifically, as that’s not their focus. It doesn’t mean a team of people can’t be assembled to create dungeons at any time.
From the way it sounds, it sounds like the teams are flexible and there’s a lot of crossover anyway.
Not having a permanent team for something they create occasionally doesn’t seem like such a big deal to me.
Nothing’s off the tableā¢
They had to get rid of the “table” in order to burn it to stay warm. Please note that things you may think you are placing on the table will fall to the ground to never be seen again.
Also, i’ve disbanded my wallet, much like the dungeon team, so i will no longer be producing gem store sales. LOL
This is why Im asking for confirmation on this whole “no more dungeons”, because it can be a game breaker for a lot of people I know.
I’m pretty sure the reason (or onr of the reasons) behind “Don’t speak about future” policy is because some of that informations can be a gamebreaker to groups of players. They want to keep you as long as possible, even if it’s on false hopes and pretenses.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Here’s the official reply:
“la la la la la la la la la la we can’t hear you! la la la la la la la la la la la”

That’s precisely what Ropechef said. -_-
I don’t understand why they didn’t let the two dungeons they added – Aether Retreat and Molten Factory as stand alone dungeons. They were well received by players and it is a shame that we only can access stripped-down versions in fractals which I don’t have touched for more than a year.
