Could you just have some universal “event token” currency slot contained in the wallet for use in festivals, and another for living story? It’s really irritating to have twenty different currencies in my bank, wondering if they’ll ever be used again or, if they are, if you’ll mess with the drop rate the next time they’re used.

Maybe you could even use karma for that. I dunno. Make it worth having.

Would love nothing more than this myself. Having so many tokens even with the wallet has never worked for any mmo in history.

i posted this during the CDI thread-stavaganza… It was largely ignored…

Currency.

We have a wallet because all of the various currencies became unweildy.

Yet with every living story update a new ‘currency’ is added. Not currency in the traditional sense but a collectable as currency.

Watchwork sprokets, ugly wool things, kite fortunes, various snowflakes, Zhaitaffy, pristine toxic spores etc. All of these need to be collected in large quantities and used at a vendor.

Any item subtracted from your inventory in exchange for an item from a vendor is a currency. No matter whether it goes into our collectable tab or the wallet, it is still a currency. No matter where we store it. Items spent at a vendor are currency.

I know there is a new item to exhcange every time so that people can’t just buy everything with what they have stored up but enough already.

Karma would be exceptionally useful to replace all of the collectable currencies. You help with the event? You gain karma. Use karma to buy the living story stuff. Need a special item for a crafting recipe? Buy it from a LS vendor appropriate to the content, Majory for example in ToN.

This gives added value to Karma, adds more karma sinks to the game and stops adding more items that are effectively currency.

Plus we now also have blade shards, festival tokens etc…

It really is getting out of hand and is really counter to the entire wallet mindset.

O so agree it’s not even funny.

Firstly, they take up so much inventory space. Each time a new event currency is introduced, it should either be added to the wallet or the collectibles tab, depending on how the currency is treated in-game.

Secondly, we get a new currency type for each event. Which means that any leftovers from the previous event are now functionally useless. If we had a universal “Event Token” that carried over, we could choose to use them on whatever we choose. I’d love to have more jade weapons, they’re sweet looking. But getting those tickets were rough. Of course, this event, getting the tokens necessary for the Sovereign weapons is fairly easy (at least for me). Unfortunately, I also think they’re ugly. I’d love to parlay this earned currency into progress toward a jade weapon.

but but if you make all live events use the same currency you’ll have people playing the events they actually like and saving up the currency in case there’s an event that they don’t like but they really like the cosmetics from it

and that’s just unfair. people shouldn’t be able to play what they actually like

Bad idea.

I would just stockpile currencies from one event and then use it on another. I would be able to skip entire content.

Its funny gold is the most simplify currencies in the game but ppl do keep asking for more tokens to get “event only skins.” So there a major mix point of view that the comunitly is saying.

I am for more gold related skins (yes that means both npc skins and gem store skins) it makes all events usefully to your progression to the looks that you want. Its what makes end game at level 2 work every thing will give you level 80 items or “high end” skins. Its true freedom of do what you want in a game and token system or event only skins (such as you can only get this skin from raids type games or gear too) comply remove this type of environment.

Now you’re bringing up the issue of playing content for enjoyment vs playing for rewards. If the content is good we should want to play it, regardless of rewards.

But I see your point.

How about a compromise? Still get some sort of bank/wallet space for event tokens, but each new event has a vendor that collects last event’s tokens in exchange for some of the new event’s, but at a highly reduced ratio (like 10:1 or 50:1). Whatever is balanced. Maybe it’s different each time based on ease of acquisition.

No, you shouldn’t be able to exchange tokens from one even for tokens from another. If you have leftover tokens from Event A, and want Event B rewards, then do Event B. If Event A tokens are taking up too much inventory, then either delete them, or vendor them, or buy more inventory space.

You can have up to 11 or 12 extra bank slots, that is so many extra slots it’s ridiculous.

I do think some items, like Blade Shards, which are used for crafting, should have a spot in collectibles though.

Someone else mentioned shared dungeon currency. If you want Arah armor, then stop doing AC and learn to do Arah. Or just do the PVP rewards track, since that is now an option.

This entire thread sounds like people being cheap. Get a job and buy some gems already. Bank slots were just on sale, I bought 2 more, that deal is gone now I think though. Or roll a new alt, buy max bag slots for them, and outfit them with a bunch of 20 slot bags. That’s like 160 extra slots right there to store your tokens.

Festival currencies can usually be deleted after the season has ended, once you’ve bartered out the bulk of them for basic items. You normally have enough time when the festival returns to get whatever currency you need for new cosmetics. There is no problem here that needs solving.

I’m not sure why people need to consider everything in their inventories to be valuable. I’m sure that’s not the design intent. If you’ve got more of something than you need then just delete the excess (if it has no sale value). It’s a better solution than posting on forums for game change.

The purpose for each of these currencies is to allow only players who participate in a particular activity to get rewards available only to those who participate.

You want “that” dungeon armor, then do that dungeon. You want “that” WvW armor, do WvW. Etc.

If everything is gold or a shared currency for a type of activity like dungeons, then players can choose an easier event to accumulate currency to purchase items currently available from doing a much tougher event. This will drive the skill=exclusive reward players through the roof.

You can’t just do open world PvE and expect to be able to get all rewards available from all aspects of the game. Having rewards tied to specific activities that aren’t required for general gameplay is perfectly fine. I’m actually disappointed that they backtracked from this philosophy with PvP (I’m not a PvP player).

I disagree. If this was the case, there wouldn’t be a point in having armour unique to the dungeon (unless you had some sort of system where you had to unlock the vendor by completing all paths of the dungeon before being able to purchase it).

I rarely do events for skins so I just throw my tokens out.

I am OK with this so long as the skins are available on the tp afterwards.

Eg I want a chain sword skin for my space marine norn. it will cost me 80g but i didnt want to do the halloween content, so it seems fair.

I don’t want dungeons to have shared currency- they’re fine, since they are wallet currency.

Actually, I’d be fine if all living story/festival tokens were part of the wallet. That way I wouldn’t have to look at them. But I’d be even happier if they were universal, so that the odds and ends wouldn’t keep taunting me. It’s aggravating to have, for example, 24 molten codes, or 8 fortune scraps just hanging out.

I like the idea of Karma as “universal” currency. I think it could solve the problem of each new release creating a new currency (or a lot, Escape from Lions Arch had blade shards, found belongings and Heirlooms!).
But we don’t want people that haven’t played the content to be able to get it’s rewards (despite the exception at Festival of the 4 winds offering many of the Season 1 rewards). How to solve it?

My idea would be to put these buyable items in a seller that would only unlock after you attained some level of attunement to that content.
For example, you would use Karma on the dungeon vendors but they would only be available after you completed all the paths of the dungeon. You would start being able to buy his “tier 1” items and if you completed the dungeon more times, you would be able to get “tier 2” items, up to any tier they wanted to exist.

In seasonal content, it would work the same, and could be tracked by achievements (or not since the developers don’t want to use achievements anymore to track progress, only to recognize real feats).

An option would be an completion bar that, if you got 20% of it, you would be able to buy the bottom items of the vendor, with 40% you would get more options and so on. And you would always use karma, that would be awarded instead of this myriad of tokens.
Some tokens could still exist (like Blade Shards, that are crafting materials too) but the ones that are only currencies could stop existing that way.

I am not sure if it has been suggested but instead of one big karma pool we could have different versions of karma. Like in GW1 we had Faction influence that was used to buy rewards. Such as z-keys. If this was added it could be like “Lions Arch Karma” for aiding in the events to rebuild Lions Arch along with “Labyrinthine Cliffs Karma” to replace the festival tokens. This would save lots of inventory and is a throwback to GW1.
