I have been pondering for too long on this subject of certain skins clearly in the game that… aren’t.. in the game.

I am not talking about Black Lion Ticket skins as they have and do make a return albeit rarely but my main point is skins such as (and solely as a simple example):

  • “LivingWorld” Rewards e.g: Wings of the Sunless
  • Decorative Molten Jetpack from possible NO LONGER AVAILABLE dungeon reward(s)
  • even ranging as far as SAB skins
  • Old PvP skins (e.g; Stalwart, not including ‘coat’)

The list could on forever.

I remember vaguely when the wardrobe system was first introduced a blog/news/feature pack post stated the following, and, the very first sentence introducing the post in all it’s obvious glory:

“One of the many exciting features coming in the April 2014 Feature Pack is the new Wardrobe, an account-wide system that allows you to collect every skin in the game!

Every skin. In the game.

“If that wasn’t enough, we’ve updated your bank with a Wardrobe Storage vault that includes every skin that you could potentially unlock!”

Potentially.

“In that tab, you can sort, filter, and search to see not only the skins you have access to, but every skin available in the whole game.”

Every skin. Available. In the whole game.

The key word is available.

And that’s exactly where it gets iffy and mis-leading. They are not available.

Potentially is completely disregarded in this situation as the skins are, technically, not obtainable therefore you cannot unlock them. At all.

I don’t mind skins that are/were discontinued not showing up in the wardrobe e.g:

But skins that have been sitting there for months along with player inquiries on how, when, if or in general; explanations demanded in regards to these skins and their so called ‘availability’ in game needs to be addressed, or, cleaned up.

“Our plan is to continue augmenting the Wardrobe system, and our current design opens up a lot of possibilities to do that in the future.”

Continue augmenting. In other words – make (something) greater by adding to it; increase.

You have definitely added to it, I will give you that, but you certainly have not delivered it by means of mis-leading ‘advertising’ said skins in the wardrobe that clearly cannot be obtained.

Ask yourselves:

  • Is this fair?
  • Should certain skins be acquirable due to them being preview-able in the wardrobe? They exist.
  • Are there conventional ways to ‘re-introduce’ said unobtainable skins?

I would like to invite anyone/everyone to share their thoughts/opinions on this subject and feel free to discuss this topic amongst yourselves.

I think one way to re-introduced discontinued skins ie, The Greatsaw or Molten Jetpack, is to make them hard to get. Perhaps a certain level Fractal or a series of event challenges on HoT? This way players who got it already get to keep their feeling of accomplishment. They worked for it back then so they deserve it. New players should work for it but not feel closed off from it like they are now.

I like exclusive, retired and expensive items. So yes its very fair the way it is.

I also would like a way to get these skins. I was looking at the greatsaw the other day trying to decide if I felt it was worth $250.

Just let me know when the PVE/PVP skill separation happens.

Can Engi please have more than one viable skill set in PVE? Turrets maybe?

I paid 1350g for Greatsaw and 1850g for the ghastly shield. I think it was worth it. I am not even using them but I filled 2 slots in my wardrobe

Yes it’s fair. Your potential to unlock a given skin in the wardrobe was to have the skin on one of your characters or in your locker when the system went through.

If you didn’t have the skin then you couldn’t unlock it. For specialty skins you will never be able to unlock it in the future.

If you had done a lot of work and had been storing for a while you could unlock every skin in the game. That isn’t to say that everyone has the ability, nor will have in the future the ability to unlock every skin in the game. That’s not how it works, how it is intended to work, nor how it should work.

I wish I could get the Tribal top. It was a discontinued PvP skin. I’ll never get it. It would have worked amazingly for a elementalist I’m making. Too bad for me.

Accept that you can’t and shouldn’t be able to have everything. Accept that it is actually fair that you can’t and shouldn’t be able to have everything. You will be a much happier person in the long run.

Is it fair ? Maybe. If you have it unlocked, you’d be inclined to say so. If not, then probably not.

I hate the fact that I don’t have certain skins and don’t have to option to unlock them, but I like the certain prestige/exclusivity of it.

Most skins will be come back in some form of way. I don’t know exactly which skins are absolutely non-obtainable ( I know the tribal one, from the old pvp rewards bring those back btw ), but I figure it’ll be back someday, except perhaps some event stuff like the blue wings.

Tl;dr Only sucks when you don’t have them.

I don’t see them bringing back the rewards that were unlocked in the hero panel by completing past meta events. Those were rewards “for being there and doing that” and I don’t see them putting them for sale on a vender or making them as a new achievement reward. The ones that weren’t an unlock are mostly available to buy already.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.
