I will only do dailies if I like them, this won’t force me to do things I don’t like. If I feel that I’m not earning Achievement Points at a reasonable rate, maybe I’ll just quit the game. No, not only because of achievement points, but because this is yet another nail in the “play the way you want” coffin.

This is a filthy lie. It is a well known fact that if you skip dailies, the earth’s orbit will start to decay and if enough people skip them, the Earth with plummet into the sun, wiping out the entire human race, possibly before we get to see the end of Season 2.

So for the love of all things holy, NEVER EVER skip a daily.

I keep thinking I’ll skip them, then I do them in the interests of science. Yesterday I soloed a fractal to see if I could be done (my fisrt time in an instanced dungeon). I’ve also killed dolyaks and taken camps in WvW.

I don’t know if Anet mean these new dailies to get more people into WvW or fractals, but if they are then it’s not working. I do exactly what I need to do and leave.

About a month ago, whilst map completing in WvW, I ran across a really cool zerg fight. Our team was against a much bigger group who were coming out of a keep, but they didn’t want to commit so it was fairly even. We built arrow carts and lured them into the fire. It was great, for ten minutes or so. I went back the next five evenings looking for more, and there wasn’t even a commander on. I guess that’s Fissure of Woe for you. Later, people told me I’d caught a week of unusually good server balance and I wouldn’t see anything similar for quite a while.

So, Anet, if you want me to do WvW you need to sort out population and balancing, maybe ditch the whole concept of worlds and balance some other way. You need to improve it, not market it via dailies.

I used to be under the impression that daily’s were the be all end all. When my mom came to visit in late October of 2013, we were out shopping and she was just taking her time. I was getting aggravated at the time because I had told her I wanted to get home to get my daily done. I don’t think she was too happy about that. Fast forward to April 2014, right around the time of China release, I became very disappointed with the lack of communication here on the forums so I took a break. Did it kill me? No. Fast forward again to present day, I’ve done the daily several times and I actually enjoy the rewards and extra achievement points for only doing 3 of them. Fractals, I wasn’t too crazy about doing that as I haven’t played them in awhile and was very rusty but I did them anyway, not only just 1 fractal, but the whole set. I also did the Brisban daily’s as well. Now, I have a major problem. My old computer is no more, my mother board has to be replaced but my computer is so old, I decided just to buy a new computer. It might not be much of a problem for some people that I see post on the forums as they have a lot of money to spend, but for me it’s another dent in my credit card debt. I have no idea how long it will take me to pay this computer off. Anyway, was going to play today, in the process of downloading the game but it’s taking a long time. I called my service provider and they claim that there is no problem. So when I wake up later today, I’m going to talk to a service specialist to diagnose my problems. I hope to be able to play this game again soon. I know I’ve been disgruntled in the past if anyone cares to look at my posting history but right now, despite all the problems I’m having, I’m actually in a better mood about the state of the game. I’m really not sure why though, go figure, lol.

I just realized something….

Aren’t achievements themselves contradictory to “play how you want?” I mean, its something there telling you what to do to get an achievement. I’m not talking just dailies, but ALL achievements. I mean, they tell you where to go to get points, get so many kills with a specific weapon for points, do something specific with a boss for points….etc.

If anything, achievements should be abolished.

Just FYI, Anet made these changes to Dailies because people felt compelled to do too much. So Anet understands that people do have a problem skipping dailies and actually made changes to the game to help people with this problem. So apparently it is valid. The issue with the changes are the extreme small number of straight PvE choices (not dungeons, Fractals, JP, etc.)

Gaile, did you realize that Anet understands that people feel compelled to do dailies? Because you seem to be joining in on making fun of the people these changes were made for…

It really is a lot more obvious than that.

Some people NEED to be told what to do. Some people dislike being told what to do. You can’t please all the people.

There are always more followers than leaders. So it’s likely, in my mind, that there are more people who need to be told what to do.

That’s why sandbox MMOs tend to have less traction, particularly in the west. Because people need to be entertained. They’ve forgotten how to make their own fun. Theme park MMOs tend to lead you around, sand boxes let you do what you want.

The most popular western sandbox MMORPG never had more than half a million players at one time. Why are theme parks so popular? Why is it that people would rather follow an arrow or a star around instead of figuring stuff out?

I don’t know. I’m not one of those people.

But that doesn’t mean that those people don’t exist.

Honestly, I don’t hate the new daily set up. Granted I had no problem with them before either as I could always get them done while playing the game normally. Now I can get specific things catered to my play-style so that means more WXP for me in the long run since I still tend to get most of my dailies done in WvW should I log in.

That being said, I only ever consciously do my daily now if I am close to getting that next AP chest.

I don’t know where Vayne gets this – people don’t “need” direction. Anet introduced a system (Dailies) that shows or reminds players of choices they might not normally make in their game play. People could choose to do those activities and get a small reward. Only recently has Anet started trying to force players to do certain activities by reducing rewards for straight PvE play (maps / hearts).

I’m sorry. People don’t need direction? Have you ever even looked at the player helping player forums? The idea of people needing direction is why the entire industry has moved in the direction it has.

What do you think Dulfy is? Do you think no one goes there? Do you think everyone found those coins in Dry Top by exploring?

Do you think people who play other MMOs read the quest text and figure out where to go? Or do the skip the quest text and follow an arrow?

Even in Guild Wars 2, in story missions, there are giant arrows telling you where to go.

In tests run before the game was released, Anet had to add hearts, because people were running by events, because there was no text telling them what to do. One dev was watching a player run by a burning house and he asked the player why the player didn’t go inside to check it out, and the player said because I didn’t have a quest for it.

Why do you think people who are used to quest hubs get confused by playing this game? There are tons of posts about it, and even more people I’ve talked to in game.

Where is Vayne getting this? Reality, that’s where.

Even before the update, plenty of people were ruled by the dailies. They’d come in, they’d look at the list and they’d play the game like a check list. Many people do it in zones as well with zone completion. I’ve seen it time and time again. If you haven’t seen it, you’re just not paying attention.

Sometimes I think there are more people playing games as a checklist than there are just experiencing the world.
