Check out this reddit thread, very clever man has basically figured this all out already and this new poem basically confirms his theory.

Scarlet is a Champion of Primordus

Basically after reading that my first thought was…POWER RANGERS

I would rather have The Doctor come and stop her. Cause ya know, the Doctor could stop a tag team of Azathoth and Yog-Sothoth (in fact I think he actually has stopped those two at one point or another…)

Oops… no sorry, it was Clara “Impossible Girl” Osborne who defeated Yog-Sothoth ultimately…

and in an ironic twist of fate, the Doctor Who universes version of Azathoth is not the most powerful of the Great Old Ones, like he is according to the REAL Cthulhu Mythos… that said, the Doctor has fought the entire Cthulu Mythos to a standstill on numerous occasions.

“Ancient jotun stelae indicate that throughout prehistory, the Elder Dragons have gone through cycles of awakening, destruction, and hibernation, each time ending an era of life in Tyria and bringing forth a new one.”

“What knowledge we have of the Elder Dragons comes from the survivors of the previous cycle of awakening, over 11,000 years ago. "

So technically dragons are like the Reapers from Mass Effect series. Each cycle they awake, they destroy Tyria until a new race arrives. That being said how exactly did we kill off Zhaitan so easily? Wouldn’t he just regenerate and rise up again? It would make no sense to kill of dragons so easily now… are they stepping on their own lore now?

They don’t destroy Tyria. They eat up the excessive magic and then go back to sleep. There are after all races that have survived earlier ED cycles (but then again they were hidden by Glint).

We didn’t kill of Zhaitan easily. It took a massive cooperation between all the major and several minor races of Tyria including a full-scale invasion, starving and blinding it by killing off its food and spies. Using completely new and unique technology and so on.

So just because the actual fight against the mob Zhaitan is easy, doesn’t mean it didn’t take massive amount of actual work to get it done. It was very weakened when we faced it after all.

There is nothing that implies that Elder Dragons are immortal or somehow reforms if they are destroyed.

Also unlike the Reapers, the Elder Dragons are not united.

Also unlike the Reapers, the Elder Dragons are not united.

Actually… we don’t know that for a fact. They may very well be. So far as we know the only one that has displayed any level of intelligence (at least to the best of my knowledge) was Kralkatorrik, who sought out Glint and killed her in a fit of vengeance for having been betrayed. That is a very intelligent thing to do. Most animals don’t feel a need for petty vengeance.

So it could be that the Elder Dragons are in fact sentient, or at least nominally sentient. I won’t argue that they are cold cruel calculatingly intelligent entities like the Planeswalker known as Nicol Bolas (and yes I know his name means “Nicol Balls” in spanish… but that is aside from the point). They are at least as intelligent as Crabbe and Goyle from Harry Potter.

Its deathwing!!

They wouldn’t waste our time with a little dragon like that.

How was deathwing little exactly? If Im not mistaken, just the act of him coming up from Deepholm shattered Azeroth and transformed the entire world..burning everything creating large cracks and valleys and reshaping everything. I wouldn’t dismiss the concept of deathwing as little because you may not like WoW. Now, whether or not you consider the fight itself difficult is a different story…but the concept and idea of deathwing was epic in scale and had strong ties to lore.

Arenanet could learn something from this and pull a large boss/monster out of lore instead of trying to invent one.

Galakrond was much larger than Deathwing.

In fact… now that I think about it… of all the things that have ever been created in all of the genre’s of fiction. I think Nicol Bolas is probably the one thing that The Doctor, nor any other Time Lord could possibly defeat. The guy is just too powerful. Especially his pre-mending versions of himself.

I mean the guy poops universes, and crushes them in his claws. Not even the Time Lords had that kind of power. Heck not even the Elder Gods have the kind of power that Nicol Bolas has.

Nicol Bolas is on record as having stated to another Planeswalker (granted this was to a baby Planeswalker who was not innately immortal by virtue of being an Elder Dragon to begin with) that “I’ve survived more apocalypses than you’ve had chest colds.”

Minions of the Elder Dragons fight each other, which would suggest that they are not friendly to each other.

Zhaitan showed quite a bit of intelligence as well, when attacking the Orders HQs and such. It clearly have enough intelligence to do calculated moves at the least.

or that the Dragons are exceedingly territorial creatures and do not like other Dragons incroaching on their territory, even if it is just with Minions. And that they are expansionist by nature, and thus have reason to attack the order strongholds and such.

Yeah, clearly the activities of a highly intelligent military genius and not some sort of alpha male pack animal.

I do not however see them carrying on long discussions with the PC’s as a means of lulling the PC’s into a false sense of security, while they are moving their forces in behind the PC’s for a pincer attack with the Dragon on one side and the Minions on the other. That would be a sign of intelligence. And Claw Island was not a pincer attack as there was clear room to escape.

Yeah, clearly the activities of a highly intelligent military genius and not some sort of alpha male pack animal.

Indeed. Animal level intelligence would not be able to comprehend the concept of Orders, much less be able to learn and plan an attack at their headquaters. Consider Durmand Priory. It is located in Shiverpeaks – beyond Zhaitan’s usual reach. And yet it was attacked. Someone would have to find out that such an organization exists, that it is a major threat, that it has some place it operates from, where those headquaters are located, and that an attack on that site would cripple the organization. Even the first step already requires some higher cognitive capabilities – Priory members are hardly easily recognizable from the mass of humanity. The second one definitely requires higher intelligence – Priory is not militarily inclined organization and usually does not participate in direct attacks against Dragons or their minions (or did not participate before the Pact was made).

So yes, there are at least some instances where Elder Dragons are capable of higher reasoning, and their actions go well beyond simple apex predator area domination patterns.

Actions, not words.

Yeah, “massive cooperation”. Spam 1 button, nuke him to death without any tactic whatsoever. I didn’t buy it at all, it was just a lazy execution.

And if they dont “destroy” Tyria, what’s with the whole “excinction” thing. Even if they dont literally burn the world to crisp, it’s obvious they only exist to destroy whatever dominant race is on the planet every 10k years.

Something as powerful as that should NOT be destroyed off so easily as Zhaitan. I even actually thought that since it’s an undead dragon, made from hundreds of little dragons, that it would just re-assemble and rise up again. Really, I’m all up for new dragons, but they should at least put up a godkitten fight. And involve more tactics then spamming 1 button. Frigging dungeon bosses are harder then the game end boss.

Yeah. In fact such is actually hinted as being the case by the vision the Pale Tree gives you of Orr, where you are actually able to speak to the intellect of the last King of Orr prior to the Cataclysm. That wouldn’t be possible if the King, who was dead long before the Pale Tree had found her roots, had somehow lost his intelligence. The only way for that to be possible is if his intelligence was still influencing the Dream in some manner. Please note that Zhaitan’s own presence within the dream is that of a mindless monster.

Agreed. I think that the dragons tend to be fairly animalistic, but when they corrupt intelligent beings into high ranking minions/champions, they use their own intelligence to serve their dragon.

However… It would be interesting if Glint pulled a fast one on Kralkatorrik. What if, when she died, she made sure that her power AND intelligence (and potential for empathy) went back to him? Or, for that matter, if it happened on accident? What would happen if, while he’s hidden in the Crystal Desert, the crystal dragon is wrestling with the turmoil in his head as he not only becomes intelligent, but cunning?

We’ve already got Scott mentioning months ago that Scarlet’s story isn’t tied to the dragons. Toss Primordial hopes out of your head.

the interview was with TowerTalk, I think this one. Edit2: Yes, that interview and it’s near the end (naturally). He basically says they have a dragon plot for every couple years, and between them we’ll experience the more ‘personal stories’ like Kasmeer, Marjory, and Scarlet as well as things linked to dragons but not them themselves like Dragon Bash (and I would imagine, Tequatl Rising – the interview being before TR).

I never played GW1, I dont know who primordus is…or what he is. But he sounds way more kitten and epic than a tiny sylvari. I just couldn’t get around Scarlet as a villain…but I could definately dig some sort of true epic destruction of the world.

I really don’t understand this at all. The idea that somehow dangerous foes have to be big.

Last time I checked, the creatures that have caused the most deaths on the planet earth were fleas and mosquitos…and not the giant kind either.

When I see a giant boss, in games were all bosses are giant, I think, here we go again. The only way to make a boss more powerful is to make him bigger.

Superman and spiderman are pretty powerful and they’re human sized. Why does a boss have to be big to be dangerous?

Edit: Even in Guild Wars 1, in the Ring of Fire mission (the last mission in Prophecies), the tiny sparks were far more dangerous than the giant titans. They were far more likely to kill you.

I’m baffled on why it matters whether said creature is big/small. What makes a creature interesting is the context behind said creature, and why said creature is very dangerous. It’s irelevant on whether it’s massive or small.

In the case of dragons, they were designed to be large, therefore they are large. Whether people think they are scarier or not because of their size, is just subjective and not important (imo).

What if we actually got this all backward. What if its not Primordius who is controlling scarlet but the other way round.

What if by mixing chaotic magic with dragonic magic scarlet managed to somehow stop and control primordius.

What if the purpose of the nightmare tower was to create a hallucinogenic which is the last ingredient in scarlets plan to control the dragon. The thumpers might be there to trigger and earth quake in order to open a chasm to let primordius out once he is under scarlet’s control.

Then there are the steam creatures. We already kinda know they probably come from the future (infinity ball personal story)… what if they’re nothing more then scarlet harnessing the firey power of primordius / destroyers in order to power an exo skeleton armor to enhance her legion of minions?

It would kinda fit in a way… the dredge / flame legion alliance gave scarlet the fire based technology / magic interface

The sky pirates / inquest could provide the technology of the armor itself as well as the pirates capturing the creatures that go in the armor

the nightmare alliance the hallucinogen for the control aspect

and destroyers the core to power it all.

Seems like Scarlet’s taking some dragon power into herself? Destroying what she was to become a dragon puppet..? If she’s bat kitten crazy does that mean I can destroy her with my batty greatsword?

I’M SO EXCITED.

Sylvari are not able to be corrupted by the Elder Dragon’s. Or so they claim. As such I highly doubt that Scarlet Briar is going to become a puppet of any of the Elder Dragons.

Also, I would like to point out…. that a metronome like that could have been commissioned by just about anyone. Just because those journalists claim that they got it from ArenaNet and NC Soft, doesn’t make it true, unless NC Soft and Arena Net confirms the fact.

It’s a gimmick GW2 has done before, so. I would be really surprised if this was someone trolling. Unless you think there’s some big fan/hater snail mail-based conspiracy going on. Which, I feel like they would have debunked the first time around.

Sylvari aren’t able to have their corpses reanimated by the dragons after their death. That’s very different from being completely impervious to an Elder Dragon’s influence. On the first page of the thread, someone linked to a good reddit article+youtube video that discusses that the experiment Scarlet was subjected to might not have given her insight into the eternal alchemy because the device was only partly charged which, as we see in an Asura personal story mission, seems to tap into the wavelength the dragons’ powers are on. It’s a pretty good read and an interesting theory.

We still don’t know the true nature of the Sylvari (what is the Pale Tree? Some fan theories are that it is a dragon minion like Glint that somehow got cut off or is dormant etc), so I find it difficult to outright dismiss anything until we have more lore.

Obvious misdirection is obvious…

Everything in this poem is just vague enough to possibly relate to something while equally being simply metaphor.

I wouldn’t be shocked if this poem is just meaningless drivel designed to get people in a speculation hype.

I don’t think Arenanet’s writers are that stupid to basically tell you what is coming so obviously as this. That would kill any remaining suspense and interest left in people and just lead to a disappointing… “Oh…” at the reveal.

So it’s probably not the most obvious of the possibilities.

My problem with Primordius being involved is the poem’s reference to a secret. Primordius isn’t exactly a secret. The dwarves have been fighting him for 250 years. The tengu fight him in Kessex Hills. The Asura have known of him for 250 years as have the Norn. How is his existance a secret? So the secret Scarlet is referring to is not Primordius.

yes fellas you might be right about it being vague however the asuran gates are power by primordus’ energy and in the movie it depicts the asura gate being broken, this could be a sign or message hinting at the removal of the ability to draw power from him. eh? eh?

tldr: primordus

Konig corrected me on the same assumption. tldr; not primordus.

Well in that case, I guess I’m proud for being responsible for shattering the hopes of thousands of players (and getting them to hate Anet in the process).

That being said, remember this?

Either that’s one incredibly talented amateur VA or Scott is lying to us all!

So. We have thumpers all over Tyria, creating fissures.
We have “fire” that is rising that you “cannot contain”.
And we have a Balthazar backpack incoming (as has been posted on this forum, on reddit and on wiki)

Now, Balthazar, isn’t that (amongst others) the god of fire, who waged war in the “fissure” of woe? That pretty challenging place you could only enter once you were Ascended?

Man, if the Scarlett chain ended with the Fissure of Woe being opened up as a dungeon… I’d invite her over to my place for a little party with her as the guest of honor. Provided she behaved herself.

Was there any actual picture found of it though? (or ingame code we can use to view it) I remember hearing about it in one of the dwayna/grenth backpiece threads, but iirc I never seen a code or pic of it.

You are confusing Gameplay with Lore. And even there you are completely ignoring about 20 levels of personal story.

Nothing points towards them “only exist to destroy whatever dominant race”, and definitely not at a set schedule. They wake up when the magic of the world is high enough for them to wake up and consume it again.
If none of the races would use magic, I doubt they would even be targeted.

Zhaitan wasn’t destroyed off easily. Again, you are ignoring about 90% of the things done in the personal story (including those lines that you don’t do yourself. They are still being done, in-lore).
Nothing suggests that Zhaitan is undead. Its minions are undead, but Zhaitan itself is not. As for being made up of little dragons that is much more likely simply a description than an actual trait.

As would I. I remember the first time I actually ran across a Grawl boss, ritualist, named Fozzy Yeoryios. Of course I had to go over there right away, only to have my butt handed to me on a stone platter of humiliation.

Good times… good times indeed.

Basically a month ago a user called ScarletBriar on reddit posted a link to it, and what it said was something along the lines of (if I recall),

My cynical nature will automatically assume forgery as first reaction, sorry to say.
Also even if it wasn’t a forgery and ANet did make up a line like that there’s not much in context.

We’ve heard from reddit long ago that there was a Kiel sound file that offered the alternative if she lost the election.
ANet could have made up many voice lines for Strong to do. That could have been a line for some promo video one day. It also could have been slated for use on a release dealing with Dragons. That could have also been cancelled somewhere down the line.

Once again all under the assumption it wasn’t a forgery in the first place.
Too many unknowns for this sound file to offer sufficient evidence.

What we do know is, aside from Dragon’s Bash, Scarlet’s story barely contained anything related to Dragons. Bazaar of the Four Winds at least touched upon Zephyrites who talked about Glint. All the hopes that Dragons will be tied to Scarlet are just that, hopes. Her story has no worthwhile connections to that part of the Lore.

Which is a pity, because that would at least salvage her a bit in my eyes.
However one day I could be wrong, there be Dragons because of her, and I’ll eat my hat (first I’ll get one).

This tease though? I’ll chalk it up right there with Clockwork Chaos: A nice concept, but the execution will probably fall flat in places.

Elona, Land of the Golden Sun….and undead…and poison. The travel brochure lied okay?!
