Slippery Slope going too far
Sadly I gotta say you may be right….

Well that was very much a useless post.
Mainly the punishment. See rule change in announcements if you haven’t already.
Basically any attempt to criticize anything Anet does now, or does not know about a class or a game mechanic, can be called a “disguised” personal attack.
These forums are now useless. I’d go into more details but I have to use a different site now
Your mistaking the wording. You can criticize, but you have to be constructive criticism not negative criticism. Basically, you can state you dislike something but can not say that Anet is stupid or insult them. Also, when you criticize make sure to state your reasons why you disagree. Also putting in your suggestions on how to fix the problem would be helpful as well.

Until they decide your constructive criticism was really an attack on bad game design, bam 2 week ban.

Well that was very much a useless post.
That sounds like a personnal attack. You have been warned.
You constructively criticize the game, not the makers of the game. If you aren’t able to do that then you can’t come up with effective criticisms anyway and might as well not post.
Example criticism: “The combat system in GW2 is terrible. Dodging is an over-used, terrible mechanic that just promotes pure zerk groups and discourages the build/profession diversity the game was supposedly going to promote.”
Look at that, a point of criticism without a personal attack. You can communicate your issues without pointing fingers at the developers specifically (or sneakily). That’s the change they’re pushing for, and in the end it’ll probably be better (if implemented reasonably ofc) since we’ll see less of “I hate <insert dev name here>, he’s a nub faildev and should be fired!” and more real, useful discussion going on about the issues in the game.
If you have a good argument/discussion to make, developer call-outs/insults are completely unnecessary. It just shows weakness in your argument.
and style to turn them into craters and dust.” -Tonn

When you constructively criticize the game, aren’t you really criticizing the people who made it? We all know how words can be taken out of context. What’s stopping someone from doing that even after clarification?

Talk about selective reading. They specifically say personal attacks against staff members. Personal, not professional. Disagree with a feature all you like. Jumping down a dev’s throat because you disagree in how they implemented it, calling them names, bad.
Someone, somewhere must have let loose a vicious tirade to get ANet to post this.
RIP City of Heroes
There have been posts in this forum where folks have flat out insulted the developers and company.
Some tried to wrap it up under the cloak of criticism, but that doesn’t fly when you use a specific tone.
For example saying something like “I don’t like the Living Story because it bores me” is fine and a very understandable stance.
What they won’t condone is “Living story sux, the writers should be fired, ANet can’t make a good story to save their life. ANet can’t do anything right….” or various other incarnations of such.
Now some posters will understand this and I completely agree with the idea that a company should be able to acknowledge criticism and feedback (good or bad). However it is also the player’s responsibility to write it up in a respectable manner, use grown up words that aren’t curses, and convey their dissatisfaction or approval in such a manner.
To those who think ANet doesn’t deserve your respect because they are going against what you perceive as progress, then chances are you’ll get dinged. This is their forums after all.
