Small World vs World Guilds and Guild Halls
My guild just captured the guild hall today… 2 of us… It’s long and expensive to unlock the things we already paid to unlock before HoT for our WvW focused guild.
….. And Elementalist.
You are 100% correct and you have only seen the tip of the ice berg. Guild Halls are for large guilds (or very rich guilds)! Period. Yes, you can get a guild hall and yes, you can make a few upgrades, but here is what you are looking at.
You are a WvW focused guild so I’m sure you would like (need) supply capacity upgrades and the ability to craft Catapults. Aura 8: Supply Capacity requires at least level 37 Guild Hall. JUST the elder wood planks required to level the Guild Hall cost 360g, and that’s just for starters. The ability to craft Catapults requires at lest a level 200 Scribe. The cost to level Scribe is about 600g according to Dulfy. I have heard of Guilds spending 38,000 gold on this effort.
I would refer you to other posts complaining about the same issue, but they have seem to disappeared. Especially the one where a very large guild disintegrated trying to level the Guild Hall and Scribe.
Recommendation: If you are very rich and don’t care about spending ALOT of gold, go for it. If you have ALOT of guild members that are willing and able to donate and/or spend ALOT of time grinding for materials and gold, go for it. If you are like most guilds, the members have limited time and patience to farm and donate just so they can play WvW, so don’t destroy your guild by making them do things they don’t want to do. The members of my guild (the ones that are left) won’t even talk to me any more because I’m always begging them for Elder Wood, Sand, Bloodstone, Etc.
Make sure that you understand what it is going to cost and proceed accordingly.
Good Luck.
