I would probably give the game my Like if I had a Facebook account. I haven’t really played the game seriously in the last 2~3 months, but I often look back at those forums and on the main site to see if there’s anything new that I would like to do. Also, despite me having been inactive for a while, I would be completely dishonest if I said that I didn’t have loads and loads of fun with it while it lasted, and for a one-time payment that was a lot of value.

So yeah, totally satisfied with the game, and while I personally prefer a certain other MMO that has lost about 600,000 players in the last months, I usually recommend this one to casual players because it’s so much more respectful with their time than the traditional MMOs.

I guess I don’t understand why people continue to play in spite or come back and post here to try to convince people that the game is bad.

Because you’re not listening…. It didn’t start off bad.

Now…. It didn’t exactly start as great as Anet themselves said it would, and there was never any way it would EVER live up to the “Unreleased MMO Hype Tier” Fantasy most RPG’ers have a horrible tendency to build up in their own minds. (Hence why they’re Fantasy RPG’ers, b/c their imagination is generally the best Movie/Game generator specifically for them that will EVER exist with today’s currently tech limits).

So yeah, it didn’t start off bad… but there’s been almost no Quality of life additions aside from Rendering option in WvW. Balance has all been completely 1 sided. They lost probably a 1/3 of their base back during the Ascended items debacle. The crafting gets you no where, while the economy has been nothing but runaway inflation. And the cash shop is mostly a casino. The Living story had a couple fun minigames here and there but certainly nothing you could build a genuinely replayable MMO around.

snip..

Are you serious?

what Quality of life do you want exactly? Cause honestly, personally I cant think of anything. Besides except for the FoV which according to Arenanet was complicated whenever there was a need for a quality of life it was released right the next patch after it was asked for by players. Ex: mats for crafting usable directly from the bank. Then people asked for the possibility to be able to also discover recipes using directly from the bank not just craft and that was added with the next patch. More recently people asked for some way to be able to mute instruments and next patch Anet added a slider for that.

What do you mean by balance being completely one sided? balance is balance it goes where it needs to go so that everything becomes as equal as possible.

Crafting is not the best way to make you money true but getting you no where is a false statement. You can get the best gear using crafting and generally at 1/2 the price then buying it. There are also good consumables you can get that give you an advantage greater then what ascended gear gives over exotic but it seems many people ignore all the consumables while at the same time feel their characters are missing out with a ascended gear… I honestly dont get that but anyhow.

Economy is a runaway inflation? are we playing the same game? If there is one thing the economy doesnt have is inflation. Prices have been stable since like launch. Care to give some examples of items that have runaway inflation cause I honestly dont know where you get the idea of inflation in guild wars 2.

Why would the living story try to build replayablity when whakittens trying to do is keep the game fresh by releasing new content every 2 weeks? This is not your typical MMO when the couple of dungeons you released today has to last players for the next 6 months. There you have to make sure those dungeons offer a lot of replayability true. But gw2 is taking another road. Rather then releasing content that has to keep you engaged for months because you get nothing else in the meantime we’re getting small updates that have to keep you busy 2 weeks. They’re trying to hit one of the holy grails of MMOs which is that players always have something new to do. For years we heard how we have to repeat content because developers cant possibly release content faster then players consume it. Anet basically did it! not 100% cause we still repeat stuff in that 2 week period but thats mostly okey cause 2 weeks isnt a long time and while you’re repeating stuff it still feels fresh in that small stretch of time.

I just though of something how many likes did other games that went F2P get on Facebook?

Swtor is something like 2.5 million.

Sure it’s still Star Wars though. That’s a major franchise. And it was EA with a HUGE advertising budget. I’m wondering how many of the 2.5 million where pre launch. lol

I kinda meant it as a joke. I don’t even think swtor hit 3 million in sales and managed to get closer to 2 million likes on facebook. I think that game had a lot of star wars fans like it, even though they weren’t playing the game.

See that very odd there is it a time factor or more of once you like something you cant unlike something? Or is it on the lines any thing with star wars in its name gets the full hoard of the fans of star wars?

This. I know a quite a few people in SWG, 50 or so, that went to SWToR simply because it was Star Wars when Lucas pulled the License from SOE that forced the shutdown of SWG. Im sure that pulling that pretty fanatic Star Wars base to SWToR is why Lucas shut down SWG. “who cares, It’s Star Wars” is a pretty common statement among that crowd.

Honestly, I have never been a huge Elder Scrolls fan. I first heard of it with Oblivion when my coworker was overhyping it and talking about how amazing the AI was going to be. then it gets released and it is painfully scripted and easy to outsmart and read the AI.

I hear back in the day the original Elder Scrolls games were more innovative but I didn’t play them.

I’ll go out on a limb here and call ESO the Halo of MMOs. Really popular but given too much credit.

Combat in Oblivion and Skyrim were, in my opinion, aweful. Move in, move out, swing sword a few times. Or go ranged/stealth and try to 1 shot things or kite in a awkward way.

ESO looked like it had some more advancements in combat but I’m not sold on it yet.

Also it is supposed to be on consoles as well, which maybe I’m biased, turns me off a bit. Are they all one server or do console gamers have their own servers?

To top it off, I didn’t care much for the lore or the races in the Elder Scrolls series. It just seems like a Ultima wanna be to me, but I know tons of people love it. It is just not for me I don’t think.

I’m sure I’ll try it though. Since the only way I can tell if I like something is to try it for myself.

Well sure, they’re a major brand compared to Anet. How long has Bethesda been making games? How much money do they have to advertise? How many games do they have?

This proves what I’m saying about advertising (and it doesn’t hurt at all that their games are available for consoles and computers).

Well according to the new blog from colin, GW2 has sold around 3 millions copies. They would pretty much want 1/3 of them players to like on facebook.

But the hard truth is that mainly have left the game for better alternatives. I highly doubt they will reach the mile stone.

World of warcraft had 12m players at one point. Then it flactuates gets over 10m after an expansion and slowly goes down till the next expansion. It also has been out for nearly 10 years so while it has 8m – 10m players at any point in time its likely those 8 – 10 million are made up of new players replacing old players that left for good.

What am I trying to get at? WoW has 5m likes on facebook and I think thats just proof enough that players to likes is not 1:1

Can we stop pretending that it is please?

Consider another thing there have been about 50 people who posted on this thread, 13 of them said they would like it but dont have a facebook account.

Now this is not exactly a scientific poll and I dont claim accuracy of these numbers due to small sample size and possible bias in the sample… yet based on this thread about 25% of people wanted to vote but didnt have a facebook account to do it.

Then there are the other posts who while they say gw2 doesnt diserve a like the fact they’re here means they still play the game. so yeah no way that 1m likes means the game only has 1m players.

which items? seriously I dont know of anything… here are some of the most expensive items in the game:

twilight
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/30704
stable since december

charged lodestone
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/24305
falling in price since january

corrupted lodestone
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/24340
has some flactuations but mostly has a stable price. Currently its at the same price it was in january

I assume by luxury items you mean legendaries right? most of them are going down in price not up:

I would trust FB a lot more if prospective employers didn’t comb it for their applicants and try to see if anything embarrassing shows up. I barely trust Twitter, and that’s just to read it now and then and see what my friends are up to.

Also, I like GW2 just fine as a game. Which I put away now and then to pursue my true passions of Minecraft, Catan, making money at my job, Minecraft, Catan, and trying to find episodes of MasterChef Australia.

ah okey I see what you’re saying. I would just disagree in thats its not fair to compare the market right at launch with today. The reason for that is at the start everyone was poor and the market still needed to find its footing.

Lets take unidentified dyes for example. From launch to 5 november the price started at 7s and went down to 3s. There are various reasons why this might be. Most of all is in the start people needed money more then dyes. People were still leveling meaning they needed money for gear, trait books, crafting etc.. Worst yet they started from 0 and until max level gold income is pretty low. Also because of the need for money people will probably more inclined at selling unidentified dyes they got rather then collecting the dyes for their characters. All of these factors contributed in some way at “miss pricing” dyes. from 5 november to end of january price increased from 3s to 18s66c This is probably the point where people got to level 80 and where now turning their focus towards cosmetically finishing of their characters. Now people got gold and buying become more important then selling. Today price is 18s24c. From January till today price remained stable. I dont think you can really take the hike in price between launch and january as inflation really, its more like before january it was underpriced because people didnt have the gold and because supply / demand was still not properly established .

The same we see with legendaries.
Lets take twilight. It went on sale first time on 17th december for a whopping 8888g. That wasnt a realistic price, someone was just hoping to make a ton of money because they got it done first. by end of december price went down to 3079g thats where it mostly stabilized were today it sells for 1999g

As for your 100 – 200g I think you meant precursors not legendaries… for example lets take dawn…

start on 80g at launch… went up to 360g by end of november. Then went up some more to settle at 540g at end of january. Today we are at 494g.

Simply speaking I dont what you’re talking about is really inflation, it was just that initial period were people had to figure out how much money they make, how much effort it was to get stuff and things were properly priced. That seems to have happened nearly universally in January. Everything I am aware off seems to have been pretty constant if not on a downward thread from January till today.

Not to sound like a fanboy but ArenaNet has really made a great game and people realize that after they leave the game to move onto other MMO’s. I have seen so many people who have left the game return these few months because the combat and the creativity in other MMOs does not exist the way it does in Gw2.

Although Gw2 still needs improvement it is working hard to keep gamers invested in the game. It is releasing new balance patches every fortnight. They really have made great progress since launch and people are seeing that and it is the main reason why people are coming back to join the game. End game is not the games end anymore because now players are living in an evolving world.

The final reason comes down to…“You can not please everyone!” This would be clear to anyone who has run a guild or a bussiness irl. GW players always have GW to go to (I do). However although there are things I miss from my old MMO, I adapted and evolved with Tyria. That is the way of life itself, evolve or die.

I’m sure they’ll get 1 million likes in time. Although I do hope they got a bit of a wakeup call, because I’d imagine they expected to get there a lot faster.

I actually used to have GW2 liked, but removed my like some time back and stopped playing for several months. In early July I started to try the game out again, and I was about to like it again on FB until they stepped in the Ascended dogpile again. So I’m waiting to see if they clean it up properly. At the moment, I’m not going to recommend the game to anyone as I would have back in September/October.

I still kind of think that there are a few people who really do like the game, but not as many as might have been had some decisions been different. Aside from a small number of posters here, I don’t actually know anyone who thinks GW2 is all that great (and this includes gaming friends I’ve known for many years – my entire GW guild bought the game, but maybe one or two still log on with any regularity).

Which is odd, when I think about it, because in every other MMO I’ve played I know people who think that particular game is fantastic. Except this one. Hmmm. Maybe it’s just because my circle of friends are pretty “meh” about it, and that’s all I see…but still..you’d think somebody would have loved the game.

So I get the impression that a lot of people are playing now mainly because there isn’t much else going on in the MMO world at the moment. I guess we’ll find out when the next big one releases. If this game is so great, it should weather that fine. If not…well, as I say, we’ll see.

I suppose as long as some small percentage is consistently buying gems, that’s all ArenaNet and NCSoft really care about – and that’s what they’re developing towards. Businesses should make profits, but I think in the process this particular business has set aside what made it special in the past.

Which, for now, means it’s not the game for me. I just can’t get into it, and I’m tired of being more annoyed after a gaming session than before. That needs to be the other way around, or something is wrong.

Which people ? I am curious as to which people you claim to be speaking for. Which people do you claim to know how they felt about GW1 and now about GW2 ?

I think it likely that people liked GW1 because they liked the game itself. I think it highly unlikely that people that enjoy(ed) GW1 would have disliked it if other games had been more like it, in other words if it was not different from everything else out there. I doubt very much that people like GW1 for the act of being different. I suspect that they liked GW1 for the form those differences took.

Personally I didn’t care if GW1 was different than other games on the market. I didn’t even know that it was. I discovered that other games of its MMO (ish) ilk were unlike it years after the fact. The same was true of every single member of my circle of friends. I still do not care about GW1 being different. I would be delighted if there were a virtual sea of games similar to it making it not different at all.

Both are next gen games, GW2 wanted to be best mmo ever, best at graphics but not best overall not even close. GW2 tried to be a next gen mmo and didn’t get the job done. I STILL don’t get it how Anet can believe that temportary updates will solve the problems. The game needs perma solutions, permanent updates and fixes. Like a guy said in an earlier post they don’t know what they are doing, are just testing stuff but the testing costs, in our patience and money for them. They have best design devs in the mmo industry but that’s about all, anything else but graphics are about average. World bosses are super easy, they don’t even hit you 1 dmg lol. Skills and traits are just mediocre not to use another word. Leveling to 80 is about easy but when you get there is like watching the grass grow. The boredom is killing you. Leveling over and over and over again for nothing but a skill point every level up. The personal story is good until you get to kill Zhaitan. Never thought there could be such a lame end for a story,,,,people on a ship boom boom the dragon….-.- Cant compare GW2 with the game I mentioned not because of their publisher, cant compare because their devs know what they are doing, know how to shape a huge game, have something else except designers) You cant live only with the look.

I’d say there are a good 30 people in my guild who love the game. Of them I’m the only one to post on the forums.

There may be more, but I don’t talk to each and every person on a regular basis.

With ESO coming out, this game will become another WoW wannabe with some gear grind but no raid content (lol). Anet chose to please the PvE crowd, and they should pay for it dearly.

Some of us like this game, why do folks have to be actively malicious and want it to die?

Stop trying to mess with our fun, and go play a game that’s fun for you.

Also, to folks above, I am a guild wars 1 vet and I like guild wars 2. So do the other vets I know. A few disgruntled folks on the forums don’t speak for all GW1 vets.

Reached theirs quite some time ago and they are not even open beta. Lol.

Plus Dragon Age Inquisition has over 1 mil votes and Is going to be released only in the fall of 2014 !!!! that tells which are the real deal. Another game that has over 1 mil votes is GTA 5, and is only going to be released in September….yeah the name says it all but still very impressive, people didn’t even get the game and cant wait it so bad. Still Dragon Age Inquisition is the most impressive in votes, until release will get 2 mil likes for sure. GW2 has almoust a year from release and still didn’t get a mil. That is a fail pretty much. That’s why I kept saying that it needs an expansion and fast. Because huge and I mean huge games are coming. And GW2 will be forgotten very fast. The gaming industry changes very fast and Anet still doesn’t know that or cant adapt to it, they just bring temporary mini games and stories…Please learn to adapt Anet to the changes that occur. Catch the other games from behind or gw2 will be placed on the last place soon. Very soon.

Hehe, funny…
I saw a youtube clip about HYPE sadly I don’t remember it.

You know, you can always like what you read, see or hear but when you try the game, that’s another deal.
I remember the HYPE about GW2, every friend I know was going to buy it and their friends and we all was going to have a guild together and we was going to be a guild with over 100 friends of friends guild and the game came, one week later some of my friends powerleveled to level 80 and quit since they though they where done, and their friends quit too, it wasn’t WoW so they when’t back there or to their old homes in other MMO’s, we where only around 10 left in this 100 friends guild. These 90 others could have been all likes for GW2 before it was released but when they actually tried it and didn’t like it they didn’t “like” it anymore.

And you can’t compare games that is made for both console and PC and have a whole other ganre.
I know a lot of people who don’t like MMO’s and this is alot of poeple, they hate MMO since it takes to much commitment and time, so they rather play solo games and these people are much more than those who likes MMO’s.

IMO it was just a stupid comparison.

I’ve no doubt that there are people who love the game, and that naturally they’d eventually gravitate together into guild or other associations. This easily explains why you see people who love it, and I do not. But I’m just sharing some thoughts here – no need to feel the need for a big rebuttal or anything. I’m not trying to convince anyone of anything. Although I really do wonder about your enthusiasm, let’s call it, in defending GW2 and ArenaNet so vociferously. But I’ll leave that right there.

The point I guess I was trying to make is that out of my entire Guild Wars guild, and a sizable group of long time gaming friends besides, nobody really puts GW2 into the “amazing” category. Most don’t like it or are “meh”, a few think it’s basically a good game, but nobody really is super-impressed by it. We all started off in a big bang of excitement, but over time it’s really lost it’s shiny luster. Many quit playing back in November, or soon after. And considering that we all played GW regularly from the early days up until GW2 launched, and some other games for multiple years, this one has lost that luster very, very quickly.

But as I said – no doubt there are people who love the game tremendously, and it makes sense that they’d all wind up in groups together…and that’s what they’d see when they play: people who love the game. I have no idea of numbers or percentages or any other thing, except within my own gaming clan.

You see people who love it. I just happen to not see anyone who loves it. We’re all playing other things now, although we do pop back in from time to time to see if “it’s ready”. So that’s my experience, and what I think about it.

Lol Dragon Age Inquisition!!
As someone who finished Origins 9 times all I can say is LoooooL.

GTA 5 I will give you but seriously we are talking bout GTA here and have you seen that trailer?
Of course you have- everyone has- hence the likes on FB.

Neither of those games are released yet so that will also pump likes because many people follow news on upcoming games by liking them on FB.

As for your doom and gloom predictions- Anet has been running their company successfully for many years- I would think that they have a pretty good grasp of the industry.
It is fine if you don’t like what they are doing but it is unrealistic to assume that everyone agrees with you.

Oh and if you are going to make comparisons try picking at least something from the same genre and platform

I don’t put Guild Wars 2 into the amazing category either. It’s simply the best MMO out there for my play style at this time. Which makes it good, with the potential to become great. I’ve said this a whole lot of times on this forum.

You have to remember, other MMOs that are "great’ to people, are MMOs that have copied previous MMOs, pretty much lock stock and barrel. The formula was already worked out and those who like that formula aren’t really seeing new games…they’re seeing old games with new skins.

Anet is still finding their way here. This game doesn’t have the stickiness that other games have. It doesn’t have the full on gear grind of games like WoW, or the awesome stories and voice acting of a Bioware game. This really is something quite different and it’s yet to find its niche. Anyone can see that.

There is no point in time anyone can find that I’ve said this game was amazing. I simply say there’s nothing else out there even close to playable for me…so this game is best for me. It’s by no means free from problems.

I do not like the voyeurism of facebook so I will never get an account.

This is exactly right. The only thing ‘social networking’ is for, is self surveillance. I used to repo cars and anyone that used that nonsense was butter to find. Facebook is invaluable for stalking, doxing and tracking.

No one that used the internet before 2004 (the great sundering) would even think about doing social networking.

Did you recommend the game for your friends to give a like ? I didn’t because Is not a game worth buying anymore.

The game is larger, more functional, far less buggy, more optimized, more balanced, and offers more play options now than it did after launch.

Why would GW2 possibly be a game not worth buying “anymore” as opposed to previously?

It is of course a different story if you just don’t like the game and are not playing anymore. But that begs the questions: Why are you still trolling on the GW2 forums? Shouldn’t you be playing a superior game right now? One that you can recommend to your friends?

However…why are they in Gw2 forums? Not all games are for everyones likes but it is pittyful to try bring down the game for people who like it because you do not like it.

Also OP, making thread to gloat how gw2 failed to get 1mil likes…how old are you, 12?

As if getting FB likes means anything. Im playing since start, love the game, but i couldnt care less about liking it on FB. Whoever beleves FB likes or hate speeches and not trying for himself is an idiot.

But what I find most fascinating is that people like Nuka Cola still come and post same trash talk how they hate gw2 and yet almost a year later they still play it, and still hate it. Or worse they dont play it anymore, which would be really sad since they still troll forums.
