While I was waiting for a co-worker to go to the bathroom, there was a video game art exhibit nearby.
I was taking a look at some really cool stuff, and happened to come across this picture. I wonder what it could be…

Most of the artwork had actual games already released and the name of the game associated with the artwork. But not this one by Anet.
New game?

Just searched online and here’s a better version of it on the intothepixel actual website:

Dociu was the art guy for this game. Probably concept art.
You know I had read a rumor the other day that Anet was working on something else.
I don’t know, actual concept art for GW2 or Anet though? Or, just general concept art one artist that happens to work for Anet made?

The thing is all of the other artwork pieces actually had games associated with them and many are recent or upcoming releases.
He could be doing art for either an upcoming game or expansion, although the art feels a bit too modern for the GW universe.
Anyone see that second pic and think of a modernized Cantha?

That’s the only thing I could think of, if it is indeed intended for this game.
The art definitely feels modern, and actually has real life brands (TAGHeuer for example). It’s unlikely that real life brands would make it into a video game, so perhaps this is more of an inspiration piece?
I’d really like it to be hinting at a new Cantha Expansion but I doubt that is the case
oh someone on reddit mentioned they posted this on their facebook last week as well :x
Pretty sure it’s modern day China.
That guy is an amazing artist.

Just link it directly.
If it’s by Doicu then it’s old – he left the company what, around Christmas, didn’t he?
I doubt its for anything new.

I think you are thinking about Kekai Kotaki, who left sometime around Christmas, since Doicu is still working on ArenaNet.

Looks like something out of Blade Runner ..
This is more futuristic, sci-fi looking, don’t see this as something for GW2.
It would be very naive to assume that Arenanet and NCSoft aren’t working on a new game. It’s what they do and every company has to look to the future and the next big money earner.
It would be wonderful if some of that art work is for GW2 and it may well be, but I would be more surprised if there wasn’t a new game in the offing.

Hmm?
An expansion pack, possibly. A new game? Quite unlikely.
You have to keep in mind that ArenaNet have technically only released two games. GW1 and GW2.
Just took a closer look at the picture, and saw that one of the buildings had a sign with Ricacorp Properties on it. Googled it and read that it’s a real estate brokerage company in Hong Kong.
So, either this has no relation to the game and he took inspiration from actual buildings in Hong Kong, or this is a modern Chinese-esque Cantha.
I’m hoping for the latter.

Hmmm, Kaineng’s come a long way in 250 years…
Seems it would be more Chinese-esque from Hong Kong, than Japanese-esque.
Either way it doesn’t seem fitting for Kaineng, just too modern-looking, even considering Asuran technology, which may or may not even be found in Cantha.

This is true, Kekai was “kitten” amazing. No disrespect to Doicu, who is also very good. Their art styles are completely different though.
if anet is making a futuristic mmo…I’m so on that
Wow, a really stylized artwork of Hennessy Road in Hong Kong. Nice!
It’s Hong Kong, the hotel is not (jet) there…

Transistor, the girl with the sword I believe – Seen a preview of it during Sony’s ps4 showcase thingy about indie games.
You know I had read a rumor the other day that Anet was working on something else.
They have to be working on something else. With the kind of content that they’re releasing in GW2 they must have a very small team maintaining it. The cost of maintaining GW2 are probably higher and revenues lower than anticipated.
You can’t assume that they’re working on a new game based on one piece of concept art. Plus you would have to consider the backlash they would receive if people found out about it. Instead of getting the GW2 expansion you get a different game.

Thank you for correcting me. I full on derped and was thinking about Japan for some reason.
It is interesting to note, that while the art does look to modern to be for GW2, anyone ever think the same of the Hoelbrok load screen art. I always thought that was Hoelbrok of the future. So this may be something similar, although much more obvious
