Noone asked for it, noone wants it.

I can’t see things at distance when on my favourite (closest-in) camera view.

I would really like a developer to tell me in this thread why they did this? Basically, I cannot command at ALL with this thing blocking my view.

Wow, why so much hate on commanders? SOME of us use them responsibly, you know.

I’ve asked for a refund since I cant use the comtag whilst its like this. And thinking about it, Im more than happy to let the whiners fail events since they obviously don’t appreciate that I laid down £17 to convert to gold… so that I could try and help them succeed at events.

I too would like a toggle for this. I avoid things like glowing backpacks because I find them a visual distraction and now I have a large, solid symbol in the middle of my screen that serves no purpose and that gets in my way.

For the time being I am not using my commander tag at all if I can help it and considering the amount I spent to get tags on my characters, this is a real disappointment. The only consolation I have is that wvw is pretty quiet at the moment, but if this was season 2 I`d be much more unhappy than I already am.

All we asked for was a few different coloured tags to help others and instead we were given a giant arrow saying “your character is here”….where it has always been, in the middle of the screen.

Yes, this. The commander tags should not be the most prominent things on the map in PvE. When you zoom the world map out, the icon dwarfs everything else in the world. You can’t see waypoints or vistas, but ArenaNet makes sure that you can see that random nobody in the map with you. In W3 it’s fine. I like to see them so I know where not to go (or go if I’m feeling generous and helpful). In general PvE where commander tags might be useful for coordination and player count, the icons should only be visible to the squad members.

Funny thing, I think its a weird bandaid fix to the icon bugs, its got nothing to do with PvE loitering commanders. IE when you have commander enabled (minimap icon) but no boon icon. Or when you have the boon icon yet no commander icon on the minimap/above you.

This “solves” the issue and make it impossible to miss if you got the minimap commander icon on or not.

It’s doubly annoying since it’s twice as high in the air as my character is tall, sitting in the middle of the screen blocking everything from view.

Honestly, people being tagged up in LA/etc aren’t nearly as obnoxious as this. Those you can just ignore, this is directly in your face.

Well, I guess this thread has just helped to assert just how bad this community has gotten. When children get bored, they have nothing else to do but try and ruin another’s fun, I guess.

I resisted buying a ComTag for a long time. I criticised PvE only commanders, referring to them as ‘Lootenants’, and swore I wouldn’t get one since I have no special skills or knowledge that entitles me to one. I got one simply because I was at a Marionette battle where there was NO useful exchange of information and an aformentioned Lootenant was hopping about like a grawl when we should have been preparing. I got the ComTag not for some selfish desire to look ‘big’, I got it so that I could help rally people and prevent event failures.

You know what? I hope I do get a refund (I submitted the ComTag view blocking as a bug), since 100g is more valuable to me than helping a ‘community’ which doesn’t care.

Thank goodness some people can still make constructive posts.

Do you HONESTLY believe it takes your blue tag and your command to make ME succeed my events? If you do, get the refund and never tag up again. Commanders aren’t needed in PvE. People just need to learn to play and stop playing the blame game.

Believe me when I say one person with too much gold does not make an entire server succeed. WE do.

Then why do people keep asking for commanders are large events? Rally points. And a competent commander CAN make the difference, even in PvE. I have proven that.

I say we don´t need commanders. And imo their icon should fill up 98% of their screen, while being invisible to the rest of the surrounding players. I have learned that 95% of the commanders are just annoying when they behave like 5 years old. And because of that reason i just block every commander on purpose these days. Getting rid of commanders in chat makes Tyria a nicer place. Thanks for that option Anet.
Now i suggest that their icons on the minimap will disappear with the blocking as well

I have seen many competent commanders in PvE. In large scale battles (Teq, Wurm, and to some extent Marionette) a good PvE commander can be very valuable. There are times I wish I would have had a tag so I could help coordinate the events instead of listening to some lootenant (to use Guzzi’s word) who can only lead by yelling at people and calling them names.

On Topic: I am sure there are display issues for commanders, especially most Asura because of placement. Opening a ticket about it isn’t a bad idea. I fervently hope that at some point they give us toggles to be able to “turn off” the icons on the map as well as in camera. As for those who have the commander tag, I would recommend that if it bothers you not to display it until it is needed.

I for one am glad about the change. In WvW, the hardest part about rallying behind a commander was that I had to simultaneously watch the mini-map and the rest of the screen. Now, I can just watch the screen and be alert to my surroundings.

EDIT: Word confusion kills me….

I don’t have opinions. I only have facts I can’t adequately prove.

Stop!!! My sides are splitting, you’re killing me!! LOL.

You haven’t proven anything. You might think to YOURSELF that you earned respect and game knowledge, and gained leadership skills, the instant you bought a commander tag, the truth is, all you did was spend 100g and then start trying to tell other people what to do for a quick fix for your inflated ego.

I’m glad that you have the insight to determine my motivations and personality from posts on a forum. Congratulations! You may have just founded a whole new realm of psychology. I’d patent that before someone else discovers it, if I were you.

In reality, I am an extremely humble person who measures my respectworthiness by the endorsements of others, and I have received many such endorsements. That’s what makes ‘commanding’ (or probably ‘advising’ is a better word) so rewarding for me. I could care less about the rewards, but the appreciation of others is worth more than a precursor to me.

However, it is obviously beyond your capacity for reasoning to appreciate that there are good commanders out there, so I think I’m done with this conversation. Please continue to enjoy event failure because the cats won’t be herded into understanding the mechanics which ensure success.

The inner workings of the mind of a self-bought commander? Someone else can be associated with that for all I care.

Ps, I’ve had players send me money and items, even gem store items, as a reward for helping them with the game. And my commander tag wasn’t even on. Can you say the same? That kind of ‘appreciation’ carries a lot more weight than words that may or may not have been said.

This topic is absolutely horrible and filled with ignorant people who just want to attack someone for having a tag. A tag can be very useful in PvE when used right, at Tequatl, Wurm, Temples, Marionette, champ trains and so on. It gives helpful information and lets new and unfamiliar people know where they should be. I could go on, but I already know the response that’s coming.
Its just plain ignorant the way a lot of you replied.

It is also plain ignorant of the tag bearers to think they become sime kind of a superhero or a Saviour only because they were able to grind 100g. Or in some cases even less, they were able to hold a credit card.

I am not a tag bearer personally.
And I dont disagree that some tag owners might be the way being said in this topic. But looked what happened here, people all banded together and attacked the OP for no reason other than he said he had a tag. Does anyone know what kind of commander he is? Or know him at all in game? He was attacked and put down solely based on prejudice of being a tag owner.

Wow, so much hate on the OP. Are you people serious? I think most commanders don’t deserve their tag, but there are some good commanders and they can be helpfull even in pve. It’s not players’ fault that anet don’t know how to make tags more usefull and less annoying in many situations. It’s kinda like some people hating on zerkers for example. Why hate on players, that just chose to play with the most effective build or gear?
Besides, it doesn’t matter if OP is good commander or not, or for what reason he got his tag, his point is still valid! If i had a tag, you bet your kitten i would be annoyed by this change as well.

I’ll be completely honest, I’m glad ANet did this. There have been plenty of times I’ve forgotten that my tag is up when I wasn’t using it, and found myself running around maps and then noticed people following me. I don’t like keeping my tag up unless I’ve got reason to use it, and I’m grateful for the reminder.

I mostly agree with this. But, there are events (ok, one) where a commander is handy. Teakettle… Commanders are handy when you need to be able to split the fighting force and keep the group together. In case of the puppet, it’s not really necessary as the lanes are very well defined… But with the teakettle, the spots aren’t really defined and it helps to keep the people together.
